Residential District/Research District

[Rei's always enjoyed taking walks in her free time, getting to know the area around her and taking in the sites. She's been given a day off, a small thank you for a project deadline completion, and she's taking full advantage. It's different here, of course, given the alien nature of so much of the architecture but that's actually part of the appeal. She's reminded of what she's seen of her own world's future, and while the CERES logo plastered everywhere isn't entirely her favorite thing in the world it's nice to see some of the advertisements she's been working on around.

Eventually she'll make her way into the Research and Technologies District, looking around at all the sterile government buildings and ominous labs too. It's idle curiosity, combined with her family being involved in the civic system, that catches her interest. As well as possibly finding an entryway into CERES' facilities for later.

She's not paying the most attention to her immediate surroundings, though, so she might just bump into you, or brush past you. Trailing behind her, too, is a Cybuddy, this robot taking the form of a fuzzy baby panda bear. Whoever said she couldn't like cute things?]


CERES Gym:

[Next on her list is to find Abe no Sousei's kendo school. With a little help from Edgeworth, she's actually acquired a shinai of the proper size, and she'll turn up at the gym with that and a bow, wearing some pretty standard exercise clothes (scarlet and black of course) and begin warming up if he's not in yet. She'll start off with rock-climbing, an activity she finds herself actually doing pretty well at, and then move on to perform some pretty impressive gymnastic feats. After that? Archery.

Catch her taking a breather at the juice bar, or maybe watch while she's working out? Whatever strikes your fancy]

Restaurant:

[With all that done, it's time to get dinner. And that means heading out to a restaurant and then to pick up some stuff for the rest of the week. The restaurant she's hitting up claims to serve traditional Japanese dishes, and it's worth a try, she figures...though when she gets the food she orders, Rei's lips quiver in absolute disgust. She doesn't yell, but she gets up and carries the plate over to the counter, dropping the tray down hard enough to clatter and catch staff attention]

This is not Hōtō-nabe. [Ugh.] This is not even remotely close. It's green. And it smells like garlic. And since when are edamame purple? I'd like a refund.

[Naturally, she is going to be that customer. Or that fellow patron. Or...whatever.]

Shopping

[And with that fiasco out of the way, she has to settle for less familiar food, in this case a fried fish sandwich. It is what it is, and she'll eat it, but it leaves her wanting. So it's off to the store, where she goes through a little of everything she'd consider “traditional”, gathering up a rather full basket. Sorry if you were looking for that super-secret sauce or those last pickled plums, she's already reaching for the last one...]

I can imagine what having two would be like. He gets up to all sorts of trouble on his own. It's actually kind of endearing.

[Rei drops down to one knee beside the robot and holds out a hand to give it a tentative headrub.]

And I've been calling him Lacus. What kind do you have?

I've had plenty of luck getting that bird's eye view I'm looking for.

[sort of. it wasn't quite a bird's eye view but eh, close enough]

. . . haven't had much luck spotting anything that isn't on the map, though.

[but he had only bee in Cerealia for about ten days. he just needed to keep looking, that's all. or. . . so he thought]

Ah, fair enough. There's definitely a sort of charm to things like that.

[She looks him up and down, curiosity evident in her entire expression.]

Is your cart near? After this...disaster...I'm happy to give just about anything a shot.

[faithfulflame]

[She meets his gaze, her violet eyes locking onto his briefly before she pulls her own hand back too. It's hard for her not to notice the basket, and his clothing means he's someone who should be respected. Her faith and Buddhism are linked, but that doesn't make her any less unwilling to trouble a priest.]

Go on, take them. I'll just pick some up tomorrow.

No?

[Rei shrugged a little helplessly.] Well, I guess it is possible they don't have anything weird or hidden, even if they are probably lying about half of what they're telling us.

[If not more.]

But...heh...that isn't really a reason to stop looking.

research district;

[... There's a cute, robotic panda bear walking past him. And... yeah, its owner is probably somewhere close too. Or something. That part doesn't really matter.

What matters is picking up the Cybuddy for closer inspection, because the technology in this place and its uncanny similarities to some of the things he saw back home are extremely fascinating to him. And he never did learn to keep his hand off of things he liked.

So, you know, if she happens to turn around, that's what she'll find him doing; trying to pick up the panda for probing and inspection, without a word uttered.]

[Talk about a girl who seems to have purpose. Even if it's just an idle walk, Jae-ha doesn't see any reason to call out to her particularly so he carefully steps to the side when she walks past so that he doesn't bump into her to pull her out of her wandering. Certainly they can talk another time--

Except as he moves back into the pathway that he was intending to go down, his foot bumps into the panda bear and he blinks in curiosity.]

Ah?

[Cue this dragon man crouching down to see the little creature, not quite making the connection that it's actually following Rei.]

Hello, small bear. Do you eat people? Do I need to direct you back out?

[Listen.... a lot of animals around here do that....]

Can I pet it, too?

[HE WANTS TO JOIN IN, he's already crouching down and everything...]

Lacus is a nice name! Mine was called Darren at the store, but I think I might rename him to Barma. [POOR RUFUS.] He's a dodo! My roommate has a fluffy owl named Lawrence.

[At that moment, Anna immediately looked up from hearing a familiar voice. Hey, wasn't that...?]

Rei! I didn't know you were here! [Although, now that she was? She couldn't help but chuckle a little.] But no, not really? I was trying to find out what I could make for dinner! It's a lot harder than I thought though!

[And thus, the life of a shelted little princess]

[. . . pffft. he lets out a semi-amused snort]

So you don't have much faith in this CERES company either, huh?

[his tone is a bit dry, but he's glad to know he's not the only dubious new arrival, here]

And of course it's no reason to stop looking. I'm not usually one to reveal secrets, but. . . well! I'll make an exception for this.

gym

[Yuya normally prefers the bars or the beams instead of the floor, but he's always happy to watch any routines. So when sticks a particularly difficult land he'll applaud her from his place on top of the one of the higher balance beams.]

Nice one!

It can be a little overwhelming at first, certainly.

[Rei steps closer and peers down into the basket, wondering what sorts of things Anna had gathered up.]

And I'll hazard a guess that you haven't cooked a lot at home, right? Because it looks like you've gotten a lot of things at random, instead of anything that'd mix well together.

[faithfulflame]

[Well, the Panda lets out a startled robotic grunt as it's picked up, and that's more or less what gets her to turn around. And fold her arms across her chest.]

What are you doing?

[faithfulflame]

[Purpose indeed! Rei does note the presence of the stranger, but doesn't stop. She's not one to talk without reason. But when she hears someone talking to her CYbuddy she does slow and turn, watching things as they unfold.

The panda looks up at the person it's bumped into and shakes it's head, like it's actually able to understand him. It even backs up and stands on it's hind legs, starting to do a little dance to show just how friendly it is, and just how not interested in eating people it is.]

Absolutely, you can.

[The bear-bot even shifts a bit so that it's back is parallel to Oz. Prime petting space there.]

A dodo? You know I don't even know what one of those really looks like. They're all gone at home. But owls seem nice. I thought about a bird, but I kind of thought something fuzzy would be nicer.

[faithfulflame]

Of course not, who would?

[She huffs a bitter laugh of her own and takes a seat beside him, letting her legs hang off after checking to make sure she's not going to impede any climbers.]

An exception for what? Telling me you haven't found a whole lot?

[She does sound good natured about all that, at least.]

[faithfulflame]

[She's probably coming out of a vault over a balance beam or something, but the praise isn't missed. She smiles gratefully and collects herself, standing straight.]

People who are too trusting for their own good, that's who.

[as she takes a seat, he lifts a hand and gives his wrist a little flick, pulling a packaged sweet bun out of thin air as he does so. as a gesture of camaraderie, he offers it to her. goodness knew he was hungry after reaching the top of this wall]

And no, no. . . not that kind of exception. [he also sounds good natured] An exception to the "don't expose anyone's secrets" thing. I wanna know what it is CERES is hiding from us.

[spoken as though it's a fact; there's no way CERES is telling them everything]

[ .. oh. Whoops. He didn't recognize it from behind, but it's someone he actually knows, huh.. at least he easily realises it before she even greets him and turns like that just from the voice. It hadn't been too long since they spoke at the amusement park, after all.

The best she's going to get for a "hello" is just him nodding his head lightly, though.. he.. tr.. ies.... ]

It's since they're supposed to act like real animals. [ Or something like that. That guy at the shop sure had rattled on and on about it, and even some of the commercials here do.. ]

[ Mercury isn't the type to cook his own food, so his basket is filled with some instant noodles, and some microwaveable snacks. He spots Rei just as he's about to head to the counter, and decides that it is a Good Idea to bother her. ]

Well, well, well. Cooking dinner, are we?

Ah, that's impressive.

[Jae-ha: The Green Dragon at your service, talking with a small bear. Don't mind him then if he starts whistling a happy dancing tune to give the bear something to dance to.

Briefly, he realizes that the young woman's footsteps slowed and stopped. Hmm, perhaps this is her pet?]

Yes, thank you.

[Pleasantries aside, he's certainly interested still in her skills and abilities--though in this case, it's more him teaching her. That's never a bad thing either, though.

Not when it comes to people he can trust to take things seriously.]

I am still willing. We shall begin with the basics, then, if you are prepared.

[ He frowns then before shaking his head. ]

...No. That is...

[ He takes the jar and hands it to her, nodding for her to take it instead. ] We...still have some left at home. It is no trouble for you to take them. [ He'll stare at the jar and Rei for a moment before continuing. His voice soft, low and slow as he speaks. ]

I have not met many people who...enjoy such things. Are you from...Japan?

[ He's getting used to this whole meeting people from different countries/worlds so forgive him. ]

[faithfulflame]

[Well, it'll happily do that, since it's programmed more or less to be entertaining, cute, and reasonably coordinated. Rei, on the other hand, heads back and looks down.]

Lacus, why didn't you tell me you could dance?

[It's eyes flick up towards Rei, and the CYbuddy's mouth opens in a happy grin. See! Surprise!]

I believe so.

[She diverts a moment, turning to grab up her gym bag and a shinai, before she joins him.]

A mister Edgeworth helped me choose a practice sword. I hope this one is acceptable.
