![]() A few weeks prior to December 26th, an invitation went out to all whom already reside in Cerealia. In delicate, curling script, it read: You are cordially invited by Natalia L.K. Lanvaldear to a Winter Ball to be held on the Eve of December 26th in the Gardens. Dress in your best attire and enjoy a magical evening of dance and fine cuisine. What do you mean we should fuss about worlds being destroyed? Get into the holiday spirit, you scrooge! And in regards to the new-comers: whether you have been wandering Cerealia over the course of the past few days and managed to receive one of the later waves of invitations or have simply suddenly appeared in the gardens with nothing but the (hopefully…. appropriate….) clothes on your back, welcome. The gardens have been transformed through the work of

No, I haven't. [ He already knows what misbehaving means. He's been clean since he got here. ] I'm sure you played it when you arrived— that ViVid thing. I've been spending some time playing there. They gave me a job, too, so I check in every now and then.
[ That's about it for now. He'll continue if prompted to. ]

Anyone worth paying attention to? It seems you and I aren't the only people from back home who've made it here.
no subject
[ Which is probably too much information already, but it's now there on the table in case... it's ever needed. ]
That kid from team RWBY was here... their leader. [ Then again, Ruby didn't particularly catch Cinder's eye. As far as he can remember, anyway. ] Looks like people can unexpectedly come and go in this place. Where they go, nobody knows.

[ while concerning herself with a handful of teenagers seemed like an unimportant deed, the information mercury has just relayed to her is... actually quite pertinent. both pyrrha and the leader of team rwby have caught her attention long before they started infiltrating beacon academy so it was incredibly auspicious for her two favorite huntresses-in-training to be here. while mercury and cinder were far from home, their plans didn't have to be. ]
"The Invincible Girl" has herself a boyfriend. Now wouldn't it be a shame if something were to happen to them down the road? [ aka operation homewrecker will come into play... as soon as when i actually have that mapped out. but. be ready. ]
Team RWBY doesn't pose as much of a threat [ yet. ] but I'll deal with their leader personally if we cross paths again. [ and knowing them, that'd be all too soon. ]
no subject
I can't tell if they're official yet, but I can find out just as easily. [ It'll probably be difficult considering... Pyrrha seems so awkward around him, but whatever!! He's a chatterbox, and he'll probably get her to spill at some point. ]
[ He purses his lips as he thinks of something that might interest her some more. ] The people of Remnant aren't the only ones here. If there's anything you want to do... [ And with a look back at the party, he continues: ] There's a lot more people that may be of interest.

cinder follow his line of sight and is intrigued by his overall implication. while the two of them could wreak more than enough havoc, the lack of overall manpower was definitely a concern cinder would address sooner rather than later. ]
For now, let's limit it to cultivating people with powers we might be able to use. Does anyone come to mind?
[ mercury can compile a different set of names later if there are other Interesting people that have caught his eye here. ]

[ Because, like he said, the place is boring. Going out to socialise seemed like a chore. He hasn't played ViVid with a lot of people, as he mostly played by himself, so seeing another person's skill set wasn't something he did pretty often. ]
But I'm sure there are a lot of them.
[ So basically, he just said all of that, but doesn't really have much to back it up. ]
no subject
cinder isn't exactly disappointed with his performance but he's left something to be desired. it should be fairly clear to him that mercury will have to make up for his lack of socializing now that cinder is here. ]
You mentioned... what was called it again, "ViVid"? Maybe instead of going by yourself, you try arranging a few... "play dates". And what better way to start than at a party?
[ not that she expects him to make friends right away, but he does have the go ahead to charm people and let himself run a little wild if the situation calls for it. and you know, the sooner the better. it may not be exactly what mercury hoped for, but work is work and cinder doesn't really tolerate slacking off even when they're this far from the remnant. ]
no subject
Because, you know. He'd rather stay low than go out and actually do something just in case a colleague happens to show up. Cinder can be harsh with her words, even more so with her actions. It's not something he'd like to experience again. ]
Not a bad idea. [ And he willingly takes on the task. ] I'll do that, then.
[ There is just one thing, though-- ] What about you?
no subject
a smile graces her lips, however, when she hears him take to her task. that's the sort of obedience she can easily put her in a good mood. she tilts her head to side and answers his concern with a sort of relaxed roll of her shoulders. ]
Don't worry about what I have planned, Mercury. But for now, all you really need to know is that I'll be busy trying to reassess the situation at hand— get a clearer idea about what exactly our new overlords seem to want with us.
[ so basically do your original job but you know... better and with competence. once she figures out how exactly she can tear down their home from here, well, then she'll be able to inform him about the fun stuff. that she can promise. ]
no subject
He stares at her for a few good seconds, arranging the words he has in his head in a way that would appease her when they get blurted out. It's pretty bad news, or so he considers it to be. The CEO and other workers for the colony aren't exactly helpful, and even those who have been here for months barely know what they're here for.
Then again... it is Cinder, and she has a way with getting what she wants. ]
The others who have been here longer have been having a difficult time extracting information from our captors.
[ A beat as he looks at Cinder's expression. He isn't questioning her capabilities in any way. ]
Buuut they just might not be trying too hard.
[ That was smooth, right? Right? ]
no subject
cinder isn't so naive to think that her own strengths (formidable and commendable as they may be) will guarantee that all her demands will be met. she's counting on it to be difficult, prepared to get her hands dirty if she must but there's a misunderstanding that mercury doesn't seem to realize he's made. ]
No. It's not about effort or conviction, it's about playing the game correctly.
[ they've been given their reason for being here and it's adequate enough. she doesn't need answers to existential questions that may plague others nor does she plan to acclimate to her whereabouts to the point that it becomes daily life for her.
cinder cares little for what looms on the horizon, even tough it's easy enough to see the war horses coming. no, what cinder cares about now is how she'll elevate herself into a position of safety and power when this world threatens to crumble beneath them. cinder has placed emphasis all night in vague references to "allies" and "power" and who else has that in spades than the people with the power to place them here? ]
We aren't here to find a way out nor are we simply waiting to be told what to do. We're going to take initiative and make ourselves... valuable.
[ but let it be known, that cinder doesn't take as kindly to her allies as she is to underlings like mercury. ceres has made their slight against her and they'll get their punishments in due time. now though, cinder will admit they holds all the cards and it's up to them to steal a peek. ]
So when you go out with your friends make sure you know which ones are "loyal" to their cause and which ones definitely aren't. It'll help us in the long-run.
[ and don't you ever doubt your boss. ]
no subject
[ Mercury's said his piece, so he just nods obediently.
It's such a comforting idea that he's now able to be more proactive with Cinder around. That means the days will go by quicker for him, and he wouldn't have to spend most of his nights in his apartment reading til he passes out.
Whatever it is Cinder might plan, he's definitely looking forward to it. ]
no subject
[ after a brief pause, cinder adopts that "teasing" tone mercury had at the beginning of this conversation. they are at a party, it's fine to lighten the mood from time to time. ]
See? That wasn't so boring.
no subject
That wasn't so boring.
[ mercury relaxes into the conversation now, believing that business is over with for the time being. so, yes, he does correct cinder. thinking of ways to mess with people is fun, but now that that's over... ]
I guess it's time to be the entertainment.
[ because him trying to make his own fun is much more satisfying than someone else's idea of it. ]
