![]() A few weeks prior to December 26th, an invitation went out to all whom already reside in Cerealia. In delicate, curling script, it read: You are cordially invited by Natalia L.K. Lanvaldear to a Winter Ball to be held on the Eve of December 26th in the Gardens. Dress in your best attire and enjoy a magical evening of dance and fine cuisine. What do you mean we should fuss about worlds being destroyed? Get into the holiday spirit, you scrooge! And in regards to the new-comers: whether you have been wandering Cerealia over the course of the past few days and managed to receive one of the later waves of invitations or have simply suddenly appeared in the gardens with nothing but the (hopefully…. appropriate….) clothes on your back, welcome. The gardens have been transformed through the work of

The thing I was thinking of... Well, I guess I can tell you. [Soujirou's name doesn't appear on the network anymore. She'd checked, because she didn't want to just ignore him after what she saw of his. But if he was still here, she'd worry he might change his mind about not killing her.]
A while ago, a lot of people had strange dreams that turned out to be each other's memories. We'd see what they saw, sensed what they sensed, felt what they felt.... anyway, I got the memory of this little boy. And he had this mantra running through his head through the memory... "If you are strong, you live; if you are weak, you die."
[He thought that even while he killed his entire family, which she had experienced firsthand. He might notice her flexing her fingers almost into fists before unfolding, and looking melancholy as she continues... but she doesn't plan to tell him what she really saw, just in case.]
It made a strong impression. But, I don't believe people should have to be thinking like that.

[He points at himself and laughs, as if he actually thinks it's a great thing. Yuma would definitely have liked it.
His expression falls as he listens to her explanation, though. Vector's eyes don't miss the subtle gestures that no matter what she might be willing to tell him, there must also be things that she chooses not to.]
I can understand why some might think that way, I think. It's not false that the world is a place where the strong ones will thrive and the weak ones have to struggle for their lives. But that doesn't mean that the weak are powerless or that being strong alone means that you'll have a pleasant life.
no subject
Maybe you're right... Well, I did try to understand it, but I guess it doesn't really matter now.
[She'll avoid telling him the reason, that person is gone now. He was already having a rough enough time with being the only one left of his friends, she doesn't think she should spring it on him that people sometimes just disappear too.]
So... Rei, right? I'm Yuzu. If you need help acclimating I could probably give you a hand, as long as it's nothing illegal.
[Speaking of which. Has he even put the drink down yet. If not, she's giving it another pointed look.]
You said you needed some bags earlier - are you worried about food?
no subject
Yeah, I'm not sure if we're supposed to cover for that ourselves too, but I think it's meant that way ...and I don't know how much of the funds they gave me I'll need for living on my own. Establishing a place to come back home to is expensive. [Shooting her a look, his eyes dart from her towards the shot glass. Before she has any time to react the corners of Vector's lips quirk up and he downs the liquid with one big gulp before slamming the glass down on the table.
Grinning at her, he waves a finger.] -and no worries, it won't get any more 'illegal' than this! I'm one of the good ones!
no subject
Like I said, that's still too illegal!!
no subject
[Laughing, he dodges as if it's no big thing.]
You better watch out with this thing, it's pretty big!
no subject
I'm not gonna watch out, Rei. It was deliberate. You should listen when people are talking!
[But at least she's not going to come after him again.]
no subject
Alright, but you almost knocked that tray over with that thing right now. [He points at the table behind him before his expression turns into a friendly smile.]
..and I would consider trying to understand what that kid meant with his words back then, if it isn't letting go of you even now.
no subject
It's not like that. When you reminded me of it, it wasn't in a good way.
no subject
[He looks shocked at the mere suggestion. A guy like him, killing somebody! Perish the thought!]
no subject
[That fit the context she knew, but there was no reason to jump to that specifically from the mantra, was there?]
Wait, you don't have to freak out like that! I was just explaining!
1/2
no subject
Thank god, I only got you wrong! Sorry, but for a moment I thought you'd misunderstood and were worried that I might react like one of those kids that you see in the media sometimes or something... !
no subject
I was way more worried about the possibility that you could run into trouble with someone like that.
[But he went and assumed she meant it from the other side, and it seemed to be the side he took with him suddenly encouraging her to follow that string of plot. All of this makes very little sense to her, so while she doesn't suspect anything in particular yet, he's definitely dug himself a bit of a hole. Yuzu gets very hung up on things when she doesn't understand them.]
Rei... what kind of life have you lead up til now?
no subject
[He laughs at his own joke before his laughter abruptly stops at her question and a confused frown spreads over his face.]
What kind of life...? [He seems honestly confused over the question for a moment before something akin to recognition flits over his face and he frowns unhappily.]
Well, up until some months ago I lived with my family somewhere else, but then something happened and me and my mom moved to Heartland City. I was both worried about whether I'd be able to make friends again and excited at the chance to meet my idol, Tsukumo Yuma, in person, but then...
[He shakes his head as he gives himself a visible push. Giving her a forced smile, he chuckles to himself.]
You could say instead of trouble finding us I was the one to find trouble instead. But I was with my friends and it was for the best, so I don't regret anything!
no subject
[Honestly his story is kind of vague. She's still confused, so the nosiness will continue.]
no subject
[He makes a face, obviously thinking her question over for a moment as if that hadn't crossed his mind up until now. Once he reaches a conclusion, he smiles.]
It's true that I don't know how the conflict is going to end and if I'll have any chance of seeing it. [His smile gains a little edge to it that betrays that he isn't just saying this lightly.] But even if it doesn't have a happy end, that doesn't mean that I have to feel bad about the things that lead up to it, right?
