Should Oldbag Acquaintence Be Forgot

What: It's never too late for a new years party, except when it is.

[A new years party had been in the works for a while now. But the incidents with the Santa attacks plus time suddenly skipping ahead to January 1st had caught everyone off-guard. But Phoenix was convinced to go ahead with the party anyway. It's one way to help keep spirits high after what had happened the night before.

Invitations were dispersed amongst the group of people from their world (except for a certain elderly murderer, sorry Von Karma) and the friends they've made in Cerealia (and everyone is open to invite other people as well). Everything's happening at Phoenix and Trucy's apartment, which has some simple New Years banners set up alongside some surviving Christmas decorations. The Christmas tree is still up too, just in case... but all of the decorations and ornaments featuring Santa and his reindeer have already been destroyed.

Entertainment includes a karaoke machine which plays music normally when people aren't using it, and an assortment of food is set up, with people being free to have brought their own dishes and snacks. There is some alcohol there too, including the customary champagne, but likely the local adults will be trying to keep things down to small champagne samples; Phoenix prefers to respect his original world's drinking age, after all.

And, as they near midnight, the intention is to try to countdown to January 2nd as if it's the new year countdown!]

[ Ah, yes. That is one thing that Athena hasn't mentioned. Apart from waitressing, she'll be joining the people who work at the medical facility as a therapist. She wanted to be a counselor at the school, too, but she opted not to take the job since she wanted to talk to more people of all ages, not just students. ]

Great! There's still a lot more you need to know, after all. Who knows what'll happen if you need to beat up some Christmas elves, and you don't have a weapon with you.

[ Now, there's a thought... ]

You didn't get attacked by the elves, did you, Mr. Edgeworth?

[ She didn't experience it herself, but she was able to hear it from the other people who sought refuge in the camp. No place seemed safe the past day. At least, from what she knows, anyway. ]

No, I did not. [Edgeworth shakes his head. Word travels, and being Edgeworth, obviously it wouldn't do to be out of the loop with the latest in Cerealia happenings. So he kept tabs on things while in the safety of his apartment...and keeping von Karma safe from evil homicidal Santa Claus.] Thankfully.

[ That's actually a relief to hear! When she was stuck at the mall, she only texted a handful of people since she just borrowed someone else's device. So when Athena smiles, it's from ear to ear. That really is good news. ]

That's good to hear. I'm glad you were safe, Mr. Edgeworth.

There were so many of us stuck at the mall.

There were many of you? [He appreciates that Athena's glad for his safety (and luck, apparently), but now he's concerned. A good number ended up in the mall? With attack elves on the loose? Athena seems to have survived and she certainly has the ability to do so, but still.] How did all of you end up there?

You know what? I don't know.

[ She was mostly unconscious on her way there! ]

It seemed like a safe place from outside, I'm guessing.

Yes. Perhaps many people had the same idea...or were near it when the weather acted up. [Or maybe it was just a coincidence, Edgeworth...geez.]

I think I'm ready to start a riot, though! Now that I've actually experienced something awful, like what you guys have been telling us newbies, I have something to complain about!

[ She sounds like she's ready to start a fight, too. ]

I don't recommend starting a riot, but a complaint is likely to get nowhere.

[Don't fight, Athena. Pls.]

Besides, a riot would catch CERES' attention...for all the wrong reasons.

Speaking of CERES, do you know Delita?

[He nods.]

Yes, I do. He asked me to teach him about our law.

I recall him mentioning something about learning it.

[ But that's not why she brought him up! ] He said the people of CERES were... "trapped". I'm going to figure out why.

[prosecutory]

The people? Is he referring to us, or the locals?

The locals.

Do you know why he said that?

That's what the locals said, specifically. They mumbled something about being "trapped", but when Delita asked for them to expound on it, they remained silent.

I guess we really can't figure anything out unless we become more diligent in our investigations.

[prosecutory]

Strange...we should keep this in mind, yes. [He nods, then takes out his organizer to write it down. What the actual fudge he has it with him even at a PARTY.]

[ That's not strange to her, when she stores information on her trusty Widget, anyway! ]

Have you been to the research facility? I'm planning on going there some time to talk to these locals, although I'm not sure how strict they are when it comes to their security.

[prosecutory]

Unfortunately, I haven't.

[Edgeworth doesn't have Widget though. And taking notes by hand is one way to remember your stuff better.]

[ Taking down notes manually just means you're old. :) ]

That's a bummer... [ She sighs. ] I haven't heard from Delita in a while, and I'm not sure who else to ask about this.

[YOU YOUNG WHIPPERSNAPPERS NO LONGER UNDERSTAND THE VALUE OF TAKING NOTES BY HAND.]

[But when Athena mentions that she hasn't heard from Delita in a while...]

You haven't heard from him in a while? Is he busy, perhaps? [Or...]

He's still available in the contacts list. . . [ It's definitely something Athena's been using as a basis to see who's still around. It's helpful! ] But he just hasn't been answering any texts.
