[All right, so it's a few days later than intended, but when the night that you plan a party just completely disappears into a mess of mayhem and murderous Santas, well, you improvise. At least, that's been Komaeda's plan. After making sure to let everyone know about the rescheduling, it's just a matter of coordinating.

So here it is. Here they are.

The decorations -- courtesy of Souda -- are up: streamers, balloons, matching party hats all in varying shades of red, black and white. They're draped around the small apartment along with what is probably an oversupply of party poppers. The food is set out in the kitchen and most everywhere else.

There's even a punchbowl that's probably not spiked yet, but how long can that really last anyway? Music -- somewhat questionable in some of its variety -- plays quietly in the background. And outside the apartment, up on the roof of the building for later, the yakuza have provided some festive explosives fireworks.

Perfect night for a party. And Hinata's the kind of guy who deserves a good party. Right? Right. Only rules are: no murdering anyone and have some fun.]

At the party

[After his luck -- and of course he's blaming his luck for it -- ruined the party the first night it was scheduled by somehow losing that night entirely. Well, Komaeda is extra determined to salvage it all and make it a party to remember! Hinata deserves it! Really deserves it, and for once he doesn't want to be the reason that something is ruined.

He's bustled about for the past few days and now he's perched on the arm of the couch. He's smiling, but there's a nervousness about him somehow like he's sure his luck will pop up again. But anyone who happens by close enough will get a brighter smile and a,] Everything seems to be going well, doesn't it? Hopefully nothing really terrible happens. [Is that a weird, creepy thing to say? Oops. ...he's got a history, okay? But he's got nothing planned except partying this time! Really!]



On the roof

[Komaeda is staying away from the fireworks. Partially because he doesn't feel like making anyone nervous by his being in proximity. But partially because he makes himself nervous in proximity.

He is, however, leaning at the edge of the room, leaning against the ledge and looking down, thoughtfully.] I wonder if we should have gotten a permit for this. Ah well. Hopefully no one gets arrested. [Now is not the time to be thinking of this. Yay fireworks!]

[Kuzuryuu was just kneeling down to set off a row of Roman candles when he heard Komaeda's comment. He sighs, flicking the lighter in his hand a few times without actually setting it alight just yet.]

Nobody's gonna get arrested. I took care of it.

[Whether that means he got a permit or he found out that permits aren't necessary in the colony is a mystery. It's definitely one of those two options though, not something as shady as one would think "I took care of it" means.]

[Or well...as shady as Kuzuryuu would like one to think. He totally did something illicit, you don't even know.]

[A glance over at that answer, and Komaeda's eyebrows lift because yes. Yes, Kuzuryuu, that sure does sound like a sketchy yakuza answer. But Komaeda has noticed a thing or two about Kuzuryuu in their time on the island, so he wonders a bit just what that might mean.]

If you're certain then. I should've known that you'd have already thought of that contingency, Kuzuryuu-kun.

[He turns to face him but lingers back now, not moving any closer to the fireworks just yet.] How'd you get the idea in the first place?

[ Naegi had agreed to come by early to help set up, so he probably did that. Why...is everything red, black, and white? This is so Monokuma-esque, Souda, what the hell. Why did you choose those three colors, even with varying shades. Naegi kind of side-eyes the choice even when helping set up and just kind of glances around every so often vaguely unsettled later on, but okay. He forgoes a party hat mostly for this reason.

For the most part Naegi seems content to kind of hang out at the edge of the group and people-watch, though he's friendly enough to chat with anyone who wants to. Kirigiri's the only person he's known for longer than like a week, though, so he occasionally feels a tad out of place. Still, anyone who glances his way gets a smile. ]

[ On the roof, Naegi's a bit more at ease, having had time to get used to the assortment of people. He has some (hopefully non-spiked) punch and leans against the railing, watching other people set off fireworks.

Eventually, though, he'll light a sparkler of his own, just sort of idly tracing patterns before holding it down to watch it go. ]

Now it really does feel like New Year's.

[He had been under the impression that this was just going to be a New Year's Eve party, hadn't been allowed to help set up anything or even buy stuff for it, gosh-- so when Hinata'd come in to see all of, well, everything, it was probably a novel scene. Surely him gaping and wide-eyed isn't something that happens every day.

He's still reeling a little and feeling all emotional (even his own birthday had slipped his mind with all that shit happening thanks murdersantas and murderelves and murderreindeers) as he wanders around the apartment and just... seems to be looking at everything. Give it time and he'll jump into the party proper.

He hasn't been finagled into a party hat, though, someone should fix that.

He is looking somewhat bemused though, at the music choices and the decoration choices... hah... as expected of his friends......]

[Hinata settles down on the ledge of the rooftop, sitting with a relaxed posture to watch the fireworks light up. By now, he's been going about the party for a while and it's gotten later so it feels like a good time to comment--]

This's been really fun.

[It's the first time he's ever had a party like this for his birthday... HE'S STILL ALL TOUCHED. With warm fuzzies and such. What to do with all these warm fuzzies...]

[That just...gets the flattest look from your resident adult and killjoy who really doesn't think he should stick around here for too long. It's a party, and it's Hinata's party--of course they need to show up. But it's Hinata's party and he already has his set of friends; Sousei feels very much out of place here.

And then there's This Guy.]

...Do you purposefully say such strange things? [Like. What are you even going for here.]

Someone is talking to him, and it's... it's another kid. Yeah he's definitely out of place here, he definitely needs to go home. He showed up for Hinata's sake, but... an adult surrounded by kids is just not a good thing in any situation, but especially not a party.

...Fine. [#nailed it. A considering pause, and--] Are you one of Hinata's classmates as well?

[Sousei doesn't really intend to stick around long, sorry, Hinata. But he did make his necessary appearances, if only because it's Hinata's birthday (and people celebrate that sort of thing more now?? He's a little bemused by the idea of a birthday party, but a new year's celebration is more familiar).

Which is probably why his greeting is wholly out of place.]

[ Did someone say PARTY HAT-- because Yang happens to have one on hand and is, in fact, creeping up behind him to try and place it on his head with grand and glorious fanfare. Except-- ]

[ Lovingly, probably. But let's be real, loving punches from Yang still hurt like a bitch. This is for Hinata's sake, anyway, and knowing Komaeda... well, there's probably nothing to worry about. ]

[IT'S OKAY given that Sousei gives off the I'm not a party person vibe, Hinata's just touched that he showed up to begin with.

He turns readily and nods at him in greeting.]

Hey, Sousei. Thanks for coming tonight.

[Hinata makes a vague noise of protest, his head tipping and that's probably dislodging the hat already before his hand is reaching up toward it.]

You've just gotta... er... [He turns around to face her, trying to put on the hat but... no... the spiky bit's getting in the way after all, so much for his method...]

[ She's studiously peering at his hair, one hand cradling her chin. Dammit, Hinata, how do you not impale your boyfriend whenever you snuggle-- ]

[His antenna is softer than it looks, okay! Besides, have you even seen Komaeda's hair--]

[ Komaeda's hair is nowhere near as pointy, you could use that shit as a pillow and sleep for days. ]

Yes. [ Pointedly (no pun intended). ] You're the birthday boy, of course you do!

[He'll lean over, tipping his head a bit to accommodate.]

[ She'll strap that sucker on good, so when he straightens up, this star-patterned thing will be perched jauntily on his head. ]

[Truly, Hinata understands him well. In response to that, he nods simply, before glancing back over the party and taking it all in. Decorations, and oddball friends and all.

There's no need to thank me for that. [Of course he came, because--] After the advice I've given, I had to see for myself how you were taking it.

Of course I did. One of the last things I want for Hinata's party is for it to end in a class trip to robot jail.

As for how I got it...Hinata, actually. We got to talking at the ball, and fireworks was something he thought would be fun for us to do together.

[He cheated. He cheated so hard at his party activities assignment. But he didn't get caught and that's all that matters.]
