[She tilted her head and she thought about how Fisheye had given her mother a fake lover, leaving her alone.

Fake lover, yes, but real pain.
]

I suspect I do know what he might be going through. [She frowned.] My parents divorced when I was little and I lived with my mom. It has been just the two of us since. I suspect I would feel the same if she had started dating someone.

[She smiled, if a bit in self-deprecating way.]

I'm pretty weird, it's alright. [She's an immortal genius alien posing as a human who protects the galaxy and controls water in all it's forms of matter and sometimes even space itself.]

[As Takeru was about to say something? Well, she did have a point. Even if he wanted to be seen as a grown up, he really didn't want to see Patamon get hurt either.]

But what about you? Are you going to be okay? If things do get really bad, just let me know though so we can help you out!

[Although, now that he thought about it...] Because I don't think I've ever seen you around here before?

Well, I'm no expert myself, but... I think I'm familiar enough with some of the things.

Have you ever tried—

[ "—cotton candy", is the rest of that sentence, but he seems to realize something. ]

—Oh! I never introduced myself... sorry, it must be weird, being solicited by someone whose name you don't even know?!

[ Cue some vague gesturing, followed by a bow. ]

I'm Atsushi, Atsushi Nakajima. I'm new, and— it's very nice to meet you!

From here

Astronomy wasn't so advanced where I am from, so I never thought much on it either.

[Beyond something that would probably have happened in the future, long after he had died.]

Not another planet exactly, but I have technically gone to another world. Or plane I guess you could say.

But I have been dragged down into Hell a few different times, only once by my own will.

Ah. No, now it doesn't make sense again. Armin starts to ask but stops himself, giving up with a shake of his head. He's quickly learning that the vocabulary in place here is unfamiliar. There's no use wasting time asking for explanations when they need to find a solution first.

"What comes after that?"
goodtome: (pic#9527359)

[personal profile] goodtome 2016-02-03 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like what?

[He's honestly curious this time. Waffles are unfamiliar, eggs expensive but not exotic, but a choice of spoken languages sends a thrill up his spine.]

[personal profile] goodtome 2016-02-03 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
[This is all so confusing. Armin rubs at his forehead a little, feeling utterly lost.]

There's a civilization beyond the swamp lands?

[But, who would live in a civilization that doesn't actually exist?]
goodtome: (pic#9527387)

[personal profile] goodtome 2016-02-03 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'd expect not.

[That wasn't what he meant, of course, but it's an intelligent response. Only, it worries him all the same. At her age, he'd seen that sort of cruelty plenty of times, and he'd hardly have done well in a place like this even so. Is she really going to be alright here? It seems irresponsible to just take a child, even one that seems fairly clever.]

You sound kind-hearted.

[personal profile] goodtome 2016-02-03 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Is it unusual not to have trust in the keepers of the goods? It doesn't seem anything unusual to Armin, but he's hardly had much experience in life, even in his own very small world.]

Has anything ever come of that?

"Then the game's done, you win."

Kind of like that very first ViViD experience, whatever it had been meant to be, though Mika has no way of knowing that everyone went through it.

"Though I haven't played a game like that since I was eight..." he mutters, frustration and distraction of trying to figure out what to do causing him to speak before he thought to stop himself.

Another plane? [Yona turns to face him more fully, engaged and curious. Her world has myths about other planes, such as where the gods live, but she's never known anyone who has traveled to them.

Her face falls in sympathy when he mentions being dragged to hell.]
Oh no... I'm so sorry.

[personal profile] goodtome 2016-02-03 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Have they won, then? That...doesn't seem right. Shouldn't something change, in that case?

Though that last aside is interesting. Armin glances over at Mika curiously. "Why did you stop?"
allergictoloveletters: (A pleasure)

[personal profile] allergictoloveletters 2016-02-03 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Tadashi, I'm weird. [May as well repeat what she mentioned in her head, just aloud this time.] I'm an immortal alien, the last Mercurian, a warrior who controls water in all forms of matter posing as a human in a school while trying to go day to day while defending the galaxy.

I'm a little weird. Or I don't know, maybe that is quite ordinary in the exciting lives of the Hamada brothers. [She teased since he didn't wish to focus on the whole "getting used to things."]

"Stop?"

For a moment, Mika's confused, thinking Armin was asking why he'd stopped moving onward through the swamp. Which would be a silly question, as the answer's obviously the same reason they're having this discussion now. It takes a few seconds before he realizes Armin's asking about that offhanded remark he'd let out without thinking.

"When the virus wiped out all the adults eight years ago, there wasn't anyone left to run or take care of things like power plants," he says in the sort of matter of fact tone of someone who thinks he's talking about something obvious. "So of course things like that don't work anymore. The vampires aren't interested in that sort of thing, either."
goodtome: (pic#9527358)

fandom is work

[personal profile] goodtome 2016-02-03 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
They're about the same age, then. Power plants aren't any sort of foliage Armin is familiar with, but he gets the gist of it. The games stopped because no one was looking after the children. Then, Mika had to grow up quickly as well. That's familiar.

Mika must have reasons for cautioning Armin about vampires, and the fact that they feed on human flesh is a good enough one on its own, but that story...well, he knows that one very well. It's hard not to feel a little spark of connection there, though he doesn't think the other man would appreciate it if he said as much.

What stands out is the way that Mika talks of vampires. Separately. Armin mulls that new information over quietly for a while. "Which was your favorite?"
canteatcurry: (brooding)

yes. but FUN work. that's the important part :|b

[personal profile] canteatcurry 2016-02-03 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Mika should perhaps be glad that Armin can't see his expression right now. While doubtless Armin hadn't intended it to, his question had brought to mind memories that, while they were some of the happiest times of Mika's life, they're also now tainted with loss. Nearly all the family Mika had cherished at the time are dead and gone now.

"I don't remember," he says, a bit gruffly. "It doesn't matter now anyway."
goodtome: (pic#9527374)

fact

[personal profile] goodtome 2016-02-03 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
"I had a story book." It was an unfair question, so Armin offers something in return. It's true that doesn't matter now, and neither does the book. Neither do the walls. None of those things truly matter here. They're all strange memories with sharp edges now. Perhaps in time they might dull to feel like bad dreams, but they're fresh at the moment. Prodding at them is effective, but unkind.

"A history book, I guess. About the world and everything that was out there. My favorite thing was to dream about going to see it on a big adventure."

Here he is, and beyond that, into a world that isn't even a world. A made up world that felt realer than the one Armin had left behind in some ways. It isn't what he'd pictured, but maybe it's more like what Mika used to like to play. The question wasn't as innocent and out of nowehere as it might've seemed, after all. Someone who'd played a game like this before might be able to recall a better strategy.

Armin himself is out of his depth. This is like absolutely nothing he'd ever even dreamed of.
canteatcurry: (yes?)

...also these two are so hilariously fail yet adorable it makes me wanna keep them stuck longer :D;

[personal profile] canteatcurry 2016-02-03 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
"What's that got to do with anything?" Mika asks, with perhaps a trace of annoyance in his tone. He's getting impatient; not necessarily with Armin specifically, but with being stuck here in general. He'd been perfectly willing before to endure and bide his time until he had an opportunity to reach Yu again, but then he'd always had a rough idea of where Yu was and how to get there. Here, he doesn't even know where to begin looking.

It doesn't help any either that nothing in this place seems to make any logical sense. If it were a videogame, it should be done by now, or at least there should be something to hint at what to do next, right? That lack only frustrates Mika further, joining forces with the nagging worry in the back of his mind to fray at his patience.

Truly? I have heard that one of my friends is seemingly sensitive about his height. Perhaps both genders can be a little sensitive about appearance at times.
tiarae: (Foretell love's whereabouts)

[personal profile] tiarae 2016-02-03 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
Some people in general are more sensitive about their appearance, I guess. Height could be one reason for it. Though it's not like that is something we can control!

[Usagi herself rather used to being shorter in her group of friends, this only heightened that she's so much younger than the other three currently here.]

Kind of.

[ yeah, he gets what armin is thinking. what would people be doing living here when it's just a video game? ]

They're non-playable characters; the people who live in the towns outside of the swamp, I mean. [ and just in case armin has no idea what npcs are, tadashi goes ahead and clarifies that for him. ]

They're not real people.
