Deeper? Ugh. I'd rather make sure the others are okay.

[ The feel of the oodachi's hand on his shoulder comforts him. His confidence is shaken, it's obvious... and for good reason. He cares and worries for the other swords and their master, and this place will not show mercy to them. ]

There will always be some regret, Ishikirimaru. Any opportunity afforded is one we should take, and not just speaking about our current situation.

If you think we should go, then... we should. I'll feel secure knowing someone will have my back, and I hope I can provide you the same.

[She was enjoying herself...enough. So long as the people around her were having fun, she could have been content with that much.]

Ah, well, Rei-chan has this sort of...sixth sense thing. She can be pretty scary if she's mad, but she's not so bad once you give her a chance! She helped out her grandpa at the shrine a lot back home. And Ami-chan is really smart! But she's also really nice and helps me with my homework and stuff. Minako-chan is....I guess in some ways she's kind of like me. But she's always serious when she needs to be.

[Devoted. Loyal. All of them are. But it isn't Usagi's place to give away their secrets, their senshi identities. That's up to them. If and when they think that they can trust their friends with their secret.]

[She could hear the warmth in Usagi's voice as she spoke of the girls. Rei-chan...who had a grandfather and worked at a shrine. Like a miko, maybe? Hikari had been to shrines before, but she'd never actually met a real miko in person before!]

[Ami-chan sounded a little like Koushiro and Jou. They were both REALLY smart. Even though Koushiro was younger, he was every bit as smart as the oldest Chosen. And when Minako-chan came up, the first thing Hikari imaged was a second Usagi standing in front of her. Like twins.]

[It was all so wonderful, but there was one thing in particular that, once she echoed everything in her head, drew her curiosity most:]

Sixth sense?

Oh, um....it's sort of like she gets these 'hunches'? It's hard to explain.

[Still, maybe mentioning that was kind of a bit much. But it's not that much a give-away for her identity as Mars, right? Usagi isn't going into specifics and details here, really. Usagi gives a sheepish smile, rubbing the back of her head.]

But I'm sure you'll meet them at some point!

[Wow she eats fast! He's impressed. And as much as he loathes to part with that gian cup of water, William passes it over to her, because one should always render assistance to a Lady in a time of need. Especially when her mouth is on fire.

He can finish these last few mouthfuls. Probably.]

You mean...like she just kind of...knows certain things? Which people have good in their hearts. When people are sad.

...that is tempting to watch, though I suspect the third time wouldn't be the charm.

[Not with his luck. Or worse yet they would and it would be something horrible.

But no need for negativity.]

If they did show the future, it should be the stock market. For the sake of generosity.

[Yona pours all of the water into her mouth — sorry William — though a fair amount of it ends up on her blouse.]

I need more ... [She jumps up and runs over to the booth.] Water please!

[The laughing cashier hands her a pitcher and two large cups to bring back over to William.]

[And he's going to take that cup of water the moment she's over there and chug it right down. Fortunately, he's finished his plate by now. Yeah, he's gonna be feeling this heat for a while.

Never again. You have his admiration, good food vendor.]

I'd like to know what becomes of me in this place honestly.

[And how much wealth he gathers from everyone around him in the process. Becoming wealthy is difficult.]

What? What part don't you get, the bullshitting thing or the mutual acquaintances thing?

[ The mirrors begin flickering some more, the images shifting to center on a more verdant locale. ]

But when you love something so dearly, and then you lose it, and for the next eight hundred years, you can't find anything to replace that void in your heart —

[ he looks at the mirrors, then back at ishikirimaru; and when he does, there's something sad about his smile, as if he's trying extra hard to hold himself together. ]

Wouldn't you do anything to see them one last time, too?

[He freezes on his knees, one hand still gripping the stone slab. He wants to recoil from it and the very thought of what a "sacrificial altar" is used for makes his steel shiver. But at the same time, if CERES is killing the swords here, then he has to know why. Why would his comrades be dragged to this awful place and killed?

Slowly, Doutanuki stands, pulling his hand away stiffly.]

We shouldn't be here then. Whoever's been killing us might still be around here.

The... first thing...

[ Wait, why is it green-- ]

The fellow does look like a pain in the neck. And troublesome to boot. I have enough troublesome people in my life as it is.

[Granted, most of them were at least somewhat useful, which that one didn't look to be.]

But family is the gift that will not ungive itself unfortunately.

Something like that. And she usually has a feeling when something isn't right. I'm sure she would be able to explain it better. It's just one of her things, you know.

[Usagi's still trying to be careful how much she says, not wanting to give the senshi's identities away, but sometimes it really is such a part of who they are themselves as well. Especially with Rei and Ami. Even when Usagi knows there is so much more to both of them than the hunches, their intelligence.]

There's not enough words in the English language to describe my brother's behavior.

[And he's leaving it at that.]

Well come on then, let's go.

[After a moment's thought, Hikari smiled and shook her head.]

No. That's okay. I think I understand.

[And, without elaborating any further on that, despite how certain she was...she abruptly changed the subject.]

Are your friends here, at the carnival? Maybe we can go find them.

Right? We can come back up if we can't figure where down goes, or if it doesn't take us out of here.

[Or so she tells herself, not to freak out too much about all of this. Still, she does frown at what the other says then, raising a hand to her mouth in thought and worry.]

Something.....off?

They are! I guess I got separated from them for a little with the crowds and all. But I'm sure they can't be too far!

[So Usagi is happy to try help track them down if Hikari possibly wants to meet them now. The more of her friends meet, the merrier and all that, right? Or something.]

Whew! [She shakes her head and tries to cool the remaining heat by breathing through her mouth. It doesn't work too well, but at least she no longer feels like she's going to die.]

Are you all right?

[notsolomon]

I think I will be.

[He can just barely feel his mouth, though at least it's not unbearably hot any more. But ouch.]

That was a hair raising experience. And not a repeatable one.

We should go look for them.

Maybe we'll even get to see more of the carnival while we walk!

[So, really, it was a win-win.]
