Inaba-chan... [ Nanoha just looks at her sadly. Surely that can't be a normal way to live, not wanting to help people? ]

This isn't going to be a lecture, but I'm just a bit more experienced than you, so I'll say this much: I know how difficult it is to be alone, so if I can do anything to be there for someone when they're at their lowest, I want to do it. It's my responsibility as someone with that kind of power. Besides! [ She brightens up. ] You meet a lot of people when you take the time to reach out to them, and some of the people I've helped, and some of the people I've fought have become my closest friends!

But you can't help everyone. [ She says this bluntly with the coldest expression on her features. Yet, she doesn't dare look at Nanoha. ]

All people can't be saved. And even if you try reach out to them-- it doesn't necessarily mean that you'll be helping them. It's possible that it's a burden. That you're not doing the right thing by "helping" them.

You're right, you can't help everyone, and that sucks, but you can only help anyone if you try. Even if it's not perfect, even if I only get one out of a hundred, it's still one more person that's alive that wouldn't have been before, right?

[ She's still smiling as she always does, but it's tinged with sadness. If she had her way, nobody would ever have to be hurt, but that's truly impossible. ]

And well, when you're in my line of work, I don't think there are many people who don't want to be saved. There's a lot to be said for taking care of the emotional well-being of others, but none of that's much good if they get killed by some monster or robot, right?

Just because there aren't people who don't want to be saved doesn't mean that people know how to save them. And it doesn't mean that they're saving them in the right way, either.

I'll happily listen to their complaints after they've stopped crying. And really, being kind isn't always about other people. I, Nanoha, don't want to see anyone hurt, and I can't do that by becoming a shut-in because then I'd have to deal with the destructive guilt that says "you could have done something." I don't want to be a hero, I'm just me, Nanoha.
