[Not until Haru, he should say, but there's a pain in his side and he has to suck in a sharp breath to keep it from getting worse. He keeps moving forward, with the sort of grim determination one gets when they know they're close to home. He walks for a few more paces before the pain subsides.]
Until Master called us out, we couldn't really interact with the physical world. When we could, I was busy with the war or whatever duties he gave me.
no subject
She can see their apartment block now, so it's not far. And hopefully they won't have to use the emergency stairs if the electricity is working.]
I understand. Well, parts of it, the intricacies of how a sword came to be and what your battles are like, I'm still figuring that out. I know you love to fight, yet I still hope you get be able to find something you like just as much.
no subject
[He looks up when he starts to recognize the buildings around them. Haru should be home. Gods, he hopes the saniwa is home, safe, and surrounded by at least some of the other swords. The saniwa has to be protected at all costs.]
A sword is a weapon. Our only purpose should be to fight and protect.
I don't need anything else if I can fight for him.
no subject
...Is a man who can think and feel. You're allowed to be more than just a sword now. You're the one controlling the sword. Even while being loyal to your master.
no subject
He doubles over and grits his teeth, refusing to make a noise, despite how much that hurts. His ribs are probably broken from earlier and that slap actually reminds him how much moderate to severe damage actually hurts.
He has to stop walking, and he drags in a ragged breath.]
You-- [His voice is strained.] --don't understand.
no subject
And his voice.]
I really do not understand. The others are willing, but you are not. Though I am not saying you have to be like the others.
no subject
So don't compare me to them.
no subject
She marches towards him stands in front of him, and very sternly--]
You are Dotanuki Masakuni! A blade made for war. I wish to understand you, not compare you to others. But do not think I am incapable of understanding. I am Vietnam, and I have a reputation for war. It is one I am only beginning to shake off.
[She moves beside him again, and her voice softens.] This isn't the time and place for such arguments. Let's find Haru.
no subject
And Haru had everyone else.
He grit his teeth and then dropped his gaze, moving forward and around her.]
That's the difference - you want to shake it off.
no subject
She watches at first before she follows, since she knows he won't actually get far once they enter the building and have to climb. But she's seriously going to drop kick him one day.]
I do, but we aren't the same, no?
no subject
He limps his way into the building, trying his best to stay upright as he goes. There's no reason for him to act so prideful, but if Haru is home, he doesn't want the saniwa to worry. And if he isn't home... He's going to have to convince Vietnam that he's healthy enough to walk back out and find him.]
No, we're not the same. That's why you aren't going to understand.
[People need her. They won't break her for fun or for contests. They won't leave her in a shed to die.
He gets to the elevator and presses the button, but nothing happens. He hits it again, but nothing. The electricity has to be out in this building too, then.]
Shit.
no subject
Ah, Donut, you're a handful alright. Let's hope his gamble works out.]
I was there once too, as in knowing almost only that. [And while she was still a child, so there!!!] Besides, I'm older. [This is her really sad attempt at trying to sound like she can understand, but it just makes her sound slightly immature. But she really is older!!
She just doesn't know what he's been through.
Seeing as nothing is happening, the worst must happen.]
Let's find the stairs.
no subject
[In frustration he punches the elevator button, then turns away from it when it refuses to light. Right, stairs.
He moves down the hall and starts for the stairs.]
I don't blame you. I wouldn't want anyone to understand.
no subject
[And then she moves on after him again, making sure that he doesn't hurt himself in his anger.]
Why wouldn't you want anyone to understand though? Was it hard? How you lived. [She asked this so he wouldn't have to go into detail.]
no subject
[He doesn't have a problem with saying it out loud. Mikazuki even knows that he's sheltered. It isn't an unknown thing among them all.
Dotanuki pauses at the bottom of the stairs, yanking the door open and looking up into the dark abyss crawling upward. Her question hits hard because he doesn't really have a reason why. Maybe it's because he doesn't want to seem weak. He doesn't want the others to know that he's not a single sword. He can pretend he's like the others, that he's as important as the others, if none of them know. It wasn't like they went around researching each other.]
...Let's just get moving.
[He puts a hand on the railing and begins hauling himself up the steps.]
no subject
[She just hoped it wasn't too rude, but if Mikazuki knows too...
She peers her head through the door after he opens it and walks in. He doesn't answer her, so she knows that there is something troubling him, at the very least. If anything, spending time with these swords has taught her that even objects have problems too. Also that men are hardheaded and stubborn. Dotanuki, Ookurikara...deities help her. At least the latter is beginning to talk, but she's known him for longer.]
Alright. [She follows him, but she's uneasy about him climbing stairs. He's bleeding and hurt, but he's defiant and does not want to be carried. The most she can do now, until he gives in, is to follow and support him however she can.]
no subject
When he gets back, Haru is going to be mad at him.
They get to the third landing and he finally has to stop, gritting his teeth and gripping the railing hard enough to turn his knuckles white if they weren't covered by his armor.]
Nngh...
no subject
But ah yes, here it is, the timing is just right. If she was an asshole, she would have a big smug grin in her face. Thankfully, she is not.]
Dotanuki, my back. [Technically she would carry him, but somehow she thinks bargaining with him first will help. After all, it took some effort to even get him to lean on her before. She stands in front of him now, and if he defiantly tries to move away, she will end up scooping him up.]
no subject
[He actually had no idea what she wanted him to do. She was standing in front of him and seemed expectant of something. Did her back hurt? And if so, what was he supposed to do about it?
He stared at her, not fully comprehending what was going on - either due to pride, blood loss, or both. ]
no subject
She gives him an expectant look over her shoulder, and jerks her head.]
Please get on.
no subject
He would actually crush a country. Wouldn't that be a bad thing? He doesn't want to ruin a nation he doesn't know anything about. ]
No offense but I'm good here.
no subject
You do not have to worry about me. I can carry at least twice my body weight.
[She still doesn't look like much, but he's probably not that much heavier than double. Right?!]
no subject
Still, he isn't so sure about this, so instead he pulls his tachi out from its resting place at his side. After wrapping the ties around the saya with some difficulty, he holds it out to her. ]
Alright, then take this. Don't drop it.
no subject
She's wondering why he's giving her his tachi, but okay, she takes it and holds it close and firmly.]
I won't? Isn't this your life?
no subject
Dotanuki nods and sinks down onto the landing, resting his head back against the railing.]
It's why I said don't drop it. This human body is losing too much blood. It'll be faster if you just take that with you to Master.
