The light could attract something. But . . .

[ although, on second thought, that might be a good idea. it'd be unwise to step outside without knowing what's there and being unable to see. thus, he fishes for the cerevice in his pocket and lights the screen up to hold out in the darkness. a moment later, he shuts it off and steps back inside. ]

There's nothing – not anything the human eye can see, anyway.

[scenting]

Human?

[ is that it!! really, come on now. she just sort of moves past iv to stick her own head out of the cart and well, she can see perfectly fine. if iv looks, he'll see her eyes sort of flash a very icy blue but it goes in a second and she pulls back. ]

There's... something out there? I can feel it but it's not human. It's not even doing anything, just whispering.

[rebelia]

[ a part of him isn't surprised that malia steps up after the offhand comment. he watches her and narrows his eyes at the strange flicker in hers, before he looks past the doors without sticking his head outside.

he doesn't hear anything. ]

You were right. It does sound like a ghost.

[scenting]

[ she just nods and looks out towards the tracks and then back in the cart. after a sigh, she looks over at iv. ]

We should probably go. I can help you back to your apartment, you should be safe there.

[ she'll hop out onto the tracks after that, looking down at how high up they're off the ground. it's a jump she can make, but she's not sure about iv. ]

[rebelia]

[ he resents being treated like he can't take care of himself, but jumps onto the track after her nonetheless. with his limited vision, he eyes malia. ]

What about you?

[scenting]

[ sorry!! you smell all squishy human and malia has no tiiiime for that. ]

I can take care of myself.

[ she beckons him to follow her as she starts walking down the tracks. ]

Let's find some stairs, I guess.

[rebelia]

[ so can he, he thinks. ]

Stairs? Can't we jump?

[ he's sure he can handle it. he's jumped two-storey heights before. ]

[scenting]

[ she pauses and looks back at him, wary ]

Your legs aren't going to break or anything, are they?

[rebelia]

[ he snorts, unimpressed. ]

I can handle it. Don't worry about my legs.

[scenting]

[ well, fine!! she just shrugs and takes another step, letting herself drop down to the ground. she lands at a crouch, standing back up and looking around -- everything's pretty deserted. ]

Hurry up, if you're gonna jump.

[ she'll start walking in the direction of the residential district too. ]

[rebelia]

[ with the slight furrowing of his brow, iv jumps. he also lands in a crouched stance and lets the impact of the landing fade before he rises. he still can't see a thing in the dark, but there's the sound of malia's footsteps.

not long into their walk, he brushes his hand against the tears on his shirt. ]

What was that about, anyway?

[scenting]

[ she just looks over him and spots the tears herself, back to his face before shrugging and continuing to walk. ]

I guess your clothes are cheap.

[ malia pls ]

[rebelia]

[ they are not. he's too rich to buy cheap clothes – ]

. . . It looks like a dog's doing.

[ he says this quietly, more to himself than to malia, although he does want to hear her input. between the growls and these tears, a dog comes to mind first and foremost. ]

[scenting]

[ a snort of laughter ]

I don't see a dog, do you?

[ excuse you, she's a coyote ]

[rebelia]

[ no, he doesn't. he can hardly see a thing. annoyed, he counters her snort with bluntness. ]

No. But you're not fully human, are you?

[scenting]

[ she shrugs. she's super messing with him now, it's terrible. ]

No, but I'm not a dog.

[rebelia]

What are you, then?

[scenting]

[ scoffs ]

Why should I tell you?

[ malia sure did talk her way into a corner here, god damnit malia ]

[rebelia]

[ good job. ]

You cost me my shirt. The least you can do is explain yourself.

[scenting]

I didn't do anything to your shirt! That was like that when I saw you.

[ lies and lies and lies ]

[rebelia]

[ it's like dealing with a six-year-old. ]

You admitted that you ripped it in the metro. What are you being so evasive for?

[scenting]

[ a startled look! she completely forgot that. ]

It's -- fine, who cares. I'm a werecoyote.

[ then she flicks out her hand and bam, claws ]

I'm still not paying for your shirt.

i was expecting wolverine claws and then remembered this is another canon

[rebelia]

[ in the poor lighting (or lack thereof), iv has to strain to see the claws growing from the tips of malia's fingers. he's seen many things in the past month, and so, while he narrows his eyes in wonder, he's able to retain a great deal of composure over the reveal. ]

A werecoyote, not a wolf? I've never heard of anything like you.

[ his tone indicates he doesn't doubt her so much as he's turning the term around in his head. that explains a lot.

and he can pay for his own shirt, thanks. ]

[scenting]

[ when she knows he's finished looking, she withdraws them and shoves her hands in her pockets, shrugging. she suddenly feels oddly insecure. ]

Sometimes the shape you take reflects the person you are. [ she sounds like she's reciting something ] For me, that's a coyote.

[ she shrugs. it's no big deal, okay!! ]

[rebelia]

"The person you are," huh . . .

[ he hums in thought. malia doesn't make him think much of a wolf, which is why he offers the tentative agreement. ]

It seems to suit you. And it explains a lot, too.
