Dotanuki doesn't look fazed by the silence or the question. He just shrugs.]

Yeah. This is my real body- [He jerks his head to the sword.] - and what you see is my manifestation.

[ that makes sense, kind of, in an illogical fantasy kind of way. Zara is a scientific-minded individual who is having a hard time grasping all the magic and supernatural nonsense that goes on here. ]

... A spirit, then?

[ is he like, a poltergeist. that's what he's imagining. ]

[He nods.] Tsukumogami of the sword I carry.

A spirit is pretty close, so yeah, pretty much.

[It's why he doesn't think a rabbit-guy is weird, ok. He lives with swords that have talking foxes and ones that act like puppies, so nothing is weird to him anymore. Usually.]

Sukumo... [ yeah nevermind he's not even going to try that one. He's not in a position to argue about how that works, so, for the time being, he decides to just accept the explanation at face value. ] -- Well, all right.

[ that does give him an idea. ]

Can you sense other spirits, by any chance?

[He says as if it's just a matter of finishing the word. What is language. Whatever.]

And yeah, sometimes. I'm not as keen at scouting as some of the other swords, but I can tell when someone's not human.

... Do you sense anything around us at all? Something malevolent and supernatural, perhaps?

[ he does not sound happy to be asking it, but ask it he does. There's definitely something strange afoot, and it's not just all the power going out. He keeps hearing weird things, but he's pretty sure there's nobody around (other than Dotanuki now, of course.) ]

Around us?

[Dotanuki straightens up and looks around, squinting into the darkness. The tantous were better at urban scouting, but the streets here were wider than anything he saw in the past. He gazed off down the roads, despite the gloom, and then frowns. There are movements in the dark, but he can't tell if they're coming closer or further away.

He can sense something out there, but what it is, he can't say.]

Nothing immediate. There's something here, sure, but I won't know what it is unless it tries to hurt us.

[ Ah. See, he'd rather not wait until he's about to be injured to know what he's up against. Still, it's good to have confirmation that he's not losing his mind here; there is something going on. ]

... I see. Thank you for checking. [ a pause. ] I suppose we'd best get going before it does try to hurt us. It doesn't sound friendly.
