Somebody you love...

[mary, why did you have to say that? he scrunches his nose a little, considering those words. he can remember the things xaldin said about love that he didn't get. he can remember asking axel about love.

right. no wonder he didn't get it; just like axel said, he needs a heart to love. so how could he understand what the significance of a kiss is? his expression sinks a little because he feels bad. of course something like that would upset a person with a heart, right?]

Sorry. [he says, after a moment. even if they'd known each other for more than fifteen minutes, it's not like she'd ever love a person who didn't have a heart, or whatever it is his situation is, because sometimes lately, even roxas doesn't know what his deal it.] It's my fault this happened.

[ Mary can distinctly remember telling him it wasn't his fault, because Roxas hadn't personally jabbed her in the hand with a kiss-inducing needle, and she's already apologized about thirty times, and truth be told, she's frazzled and tired because emotions are exhausting.

She may never forgive herself for kissing him, but that's a different story entirely, and so she just releases a soft little sigh and shakes her head. ]

We should stop apologizing.

[ She's grown, a bit. Maybe. ]

[dealing with emotions is exhausting, especially when you don't necessarily understand the ones you're experiencing—or the ones people around you are experiencing. ]

Yeah... I guess you're right. We're not really getting anywhere this way, huh?

[ Another shake of the head, but Mary manages a small smile this time. ]

Right. And we've been apologizing all this time and I still don't know who you are.

[ We're doing this a bit oddly. ]

Oh... yeah.

[he's really just not used to introducing himself. but considering he's already done it more than once today, there's really no point in withholding his name.]

I'm Roxas.

I'm Mary.

[ THERE, that wasn't so hard! It just took them all of fifteen minutes and some awkward hugs and kisses, but all is well now. ]

It's nice to meet you then, Mary.

[he smiles a little, a friendly enough gesture after... well, everything that just happened.]

Mm, you too! It's hard to be friends without introductions.

[ Or without them finding you in a forest and throwing a hoodie on top of you and introducing you to mp3 players. ]

Friends? So... this makes us friends now?

[it's more curious than skeptical—he doesn't exactly have a lot of friends. axel called the shots back then, and it was different with xion.]

... I-if you want to be? You've been really nice to me, and you don't seem bad...

[he nods a little. she doesn't seem like a bad person to him. and it's not like having another friend is bad; it doesn't change who his best friends are, even if he's never had both at the same time.]

I didn't realize it was that easy. Sure, we can be friends. [it's not like he'll be putting all of his trust in her—probably not even much at all just yet, but having someone on his side would be a good thing when he expected to be alone entirely.]

It's harder, I think, when you haven't already been hugged...

[ Well, yes. They skipped a few steps there. ]

I guess. I don't really know much about that stuff, though.

[at least he's honest.]

...? You don't... know about hugs?

Not really... Is it something I should know about?

W-well-- probably? Families hug you, and friends hug you... it's what you do to help them feel better, or if you need to feel better, or if you're happy to see them!

My friends never hugged me before.. not that I can remember. Huh. [he pauses to consider this. it's really a new concept. maybe they just didn't hug because they were nobodies, and it wouldn't mean much?]

Maybe they didn't know about hugs, either? But hugs are important, too.

[ Unless you were Kido, and if anyone (Kano) tried to hug you, you'd punch them. Or if you were Kano, and hugging usually meant the other party would regret it somehow... ]

Yeah, I guess they wouldn't have known.

[well, xion wouldn't. axel may have, but he definitely never mentioned anything like it.]

I didn't know it was that important, though.

[ NOD. She's helped educate him! ]

[she's done the world a service. probably. maybe. or maybe not, it's a mystery.]

It's something I'll have to remember. I'm not really sure when I'll actually need it, though... [thinking about hugging his friends is weird. he can already imagine axel saying something about it, too.]

You'll know. It'll just be an urge, only it won't be because someone put a needle in you.
