[ There's a small pause as she continues walking. ] ...I've actually enjoyed learning about the different abilities people here have. The abilities in my own world are more what one could call "normal".

Normal abilities are important too! I had plenty of superiors who were just great administrators and natural leaders. No amount of magic can replace skill.

[ Nanoha nods, following behind Kyoko. ]

You're right. If one doesn't possess any actual skill to use their talent talent or magic, there isn't anything you can do with it.

...My school only accepted students who had something they were so skilled at, they exceeded everyone else in their field. [ Not everything ended well, but... The school did have a solid reputation. ]

I believe that you should hone the skills you were born with as much as possible, and do what you can with them.

But if you were already so skilled as to exceed everyone else, teachers probably wouldn't be able to help you much could they? [ Nanoha would be the Super High School Level Demonic Cannon. ]

[ She pauses in her walk for a moment. ]

I suppose they help with other areas as well, teaching the students how to properly use their talent to the best of their ability.

[ Kyouko is silent for a moment, thinking. ] It's hard to say exactly what they do, since I cannot remember my time at school.

You don't remember? Is that something that happened after coming to Cerealia, or has that always been the case?

[ The former would be worrying, but not too surprising. The latter would be surprising, but there's nothing Nanoha can do about it. Probably. ]

[ Honestly, if there was any way for her memories to be restored, Kyouko wouldn't hesitate to accept it. ]

I was forced into a "game" with my classmates before arriving in Cerealia, and we all lost our memories of our time at school.

[ And that's as much as she'll say, considering the nature of the game, unless Nanoha asks. Kyouko knows it's not a subject most people would want to hear about. ]

That doesn't sound like much of a game. Is it something you can talk about?

[ Honestly, being forced is one thing, Candid Camera can be amusing, but anything that starts with you losing your memories is probably not a fun game. ]

Yes. It was a game of mutual killing.

[ She lets out a small sigh. ] The mastermind behind all of it makes CERES look benevolent in comparison.

I see... My condolences.

[ Nanoha really doesn't know what else to say to that. It's incredibly far outside her experience.

Luckily, the passage they've been walking through seems to finally be heading somewhere. A stairs up that should hopefully get them away from their bloody 'shadows.' ]

A game of mutual killing, huh? [ She gives them a backwards glance, and has to wonder how many perfectly good people have been forced to kill to survive. She's been lucky so far to never have to do that despite technically living much of her life as a soldier. Is that something that could last? ]

It's alright. I was one of the lucky ones.

[ Although "lucky" isn't really how she feels, the fact that Kyouko came out of it alive is lucky in and of itself.

But finally, there are stairs and Kyouko feels relieved that they can finally leave this creepy basement. ]

Being alive at all is lucky, I guess. If we can really be said to be properly alive.

[ What with technically being data-entities and all. ]

[ She has a point. Can they even really be considered alive anymore? It's unsettling to thing about.

Kyouko nods, shoving those thoughts to the back of her mind and focusing on getting out. Once they finally make it out of the basements, the ghosts immediately disappear and it's as if they were never there. ]
