[ well, he probably won't die for real, just end up pencil-pushing in video game limbo while he awaits the precipitant logout button to flicker across the holo-screen, so he's got a 50/50 chance of making it out of this conundrum with his life (mostly) intact. ]
Okay! Let me know if the monster's gaining on us.
[ and he makes a wild grab for the sheet floating just beneath his outstretched hand, only to watch in bewildered consternation as it sails out of reach, heading for quatre and the presumable eldritch abomination hot on their trails. ]
Ah ... ! Do you think you could snatch it?

[Seriously. For all that it's a game, Quatre doesn't particularly think experiencing death would be a great idea anyway. He's doing his best to keep monster watch until he hears Makoto's voice.
He glances back in time to see that paper, snatching it up before it can get past him.] Got it!
[And then that is definitely the roar of an unhappy lovecraftian creature coming around the corner, straight into view.]
...and we should go. [Go. Go go go. Make with the running. Fast. Very fast. You can do it. It's just like swimming but dryer. And once they're out of the maze they can see what they just risked their virtual lives for.]

but makoto dials back on the bursts of incredulous worry crawling up his throat and instead whips around, sprinting at full speed through the maze's exit. there's a moment, a particularly lurid second, when he's certain he's landed them into death/the awaiting jaws of a monster snapped open to catch them whole, but then they're back at the regular hospital stage, and it takes everything in makoto not just to crumple down to his knees in pure joy, panic deserting him for looming anxiety when he scans the area until quatre appears in turn.
all too content to spend the rest of his insignificant life trying to catch his breath, he instead clambers up to his feet, one hand landing palm-heavy on his companion's shoulder. ]
... Thanks. Um, what does the paper say?

A furrowing of his brows and he holds it out towards Makoto, curious now as he reads it aloud at the same time.] "that you keep this matter under wraps, with gratitude... Bellona Recreare"
[A pause.] I can't say that means much to me. Does it to you? [Was this truth? Was this worth running from horrifying nightmare creatures in a maze?]

[ standing in the open space before the log-out portal, makoto turns to address him with a tired grin. ]
It's Makoto, by the way. I don't think I caught your name earlier. Thanks for helping me out back there. I wouldn't have made it out of there without you.

[So he will fold it up and tuck it in his pocke-- no wait he's wearing stolen hospital scrubs no pockets. So he'll just keep a hold of this.
He offers a smile now.] Quatre Raberba Winner. [But the blond shakes his head.] We helped each other, I think. So thank you too.
