[Focusing on that simple question, Rei nods and holds open the door for Yosuke. The insides are clean, but still a little too new looking. Like this was replaced entirely this morning.]

There was a flood a few weeks ago. We're...still drying things out. There was extensive damage, though recovery's been underway for a while. This cafe is the best place still open, though.

[She heads to a seat and takes it, looking him over.]

Hungry?

Whoa. I... guess it floods in space too, huh?

[ Yosuke, kid, you really need to open your mind a little bit better. ... Don't worry about him, he'll get there. Eventually.

He takes a seat across from her, still looking around - but when she asks, he turns to her with a smile. ]

Now that you mention it, yeah, actually. So what's good here?

[ He tries not to stare, he really does, but... he can't help it. And it's not just because he's sitting across from a beautiful woman (obviously that's part of it, but seriously, that's not the whole of it), he just really, really wishes he could remember. Friendships are powerful, bonds are a powerful thing. And sure, it's not his fault, but... why did this have to happen at all? ]

[Anyway, well, now that they're sitting and he's just staring at her she shifts a little. This is actually not as awkward as it could be, but it's still strange, that face and that expression.

Turning the menu around, she points to a section of pasta dishes. Just...anything to get his attention off her for a second so she can think. So she can breath, and focus on what needs to be focused on.]

These are all good. And they come with a tea or coffee of your choice. I come here fairly often with my girlfriend.

[She doesn't put a lot of emphasis on that last word, but it's definitely dropped in there for a reason. Yosuke, you were sweet, but you really never had a chance. And it's best to just get any of those thoughts out of the way now, and make it plain too that they were just friends. At least, that's her logic.]

[ Distraction taken! He leans in to get a better look at where she's pointing, squinting so that he can read, listening to her while he does so. ]

Hey, that's a pretty good d-- Uh...

[ Hey look, he caught up! He looks up at her again, a little wide-eyed and quite curious. ]

W-Wait, did you say "girlfriend"? Like...?

[ Aaaand he trails off. Please, put him out of his misery enlighten him. ]

[Violet eyes dance with amusement at the question.]

Girlfriend as in Significant Other. I'm dating a girl, someone from my world. Minako Aino.

[There's a question in her voice that remains unvoiced. Does he have a problem with this? Because the previous experiences she had indicated he wouldn't, but it's hard to tell with boys sometimes.]

[ Oh, no. No problem. That's not it. More like... ]

... Oh man, that's hot --!

[ Yosuke!!! ]

I-I mean--! You-- Wow. Okay.

[ Yeah, no, he's apparently gonna keep floundering. But at least he's okay with it??

It also definitely drives her point home - nope, not available. Not even a little bit. Message received, loud and clear. But hey, that's cool. ]

[Rei just glares daggers at him now.]

For the record? There was never anything romantic between myself and the other you. And there never will be. Do you understand?

[A beat.]

And don't be disgusting. Minako is beautiful, but that look is not proper.

[ Aaand let the backpedaling begin! ]

Whoa--! I-I'm sorry! That's not--! I-I mean, I bet she's just as gorgeous as you are and that's awesome for you-- n-not in a gross way! Really!

[ Please don't kick him in the face. Or set him on fire. Or get out any arrows. Or anything else. Aaah. ]

And yeah, no, I gotcha. Nothing between us. [ He finally pauses to take a short breath, tries for a smile - it's nervous, but still honest. ] I understand. Seriously. Promise.

[Rei's face finally softens. She's not going to yell at him, and she calms visibly, her rigid posture relaxing once more. Palms flat on the table, she nods once.]

I'm glad. It was...I think part of why we were able to be so close. Usually I'm not fond of boys, but you? Well, the other you at least, since I don't want to put those same expectations on you? Were very kind, and accepted that I wasn't interested. There wasn't any romantic notion, and that was extremely refreshing.

[Basically Yosuke realized she wasn't ever going to be into it, and decided to befriend her rather than make an ass of himself.]

And I appreciated that. I'm glad you understand. I...should not have been so harsh. [She flips open her CEREVices though, and slides it over to show him a picture of the two of them together. Both in suits, standing outside the park, hanging all over one another.]

But she is beautiful, you are right. I am...actually rather lucky. And I'm sure she'll be delighted to meet you sometime.

[ Well that's a bullet dodged...!

But more importantly, he really is serious - it really is okay, and there will be zero expectations. He gets it now. Still, he visibly relaxes, too. And smiles a little more.

Especially at the picture! Because yeah, no, damn, they're both gorgeous. And they look incredibly happy together, and that's a good thing. With a grin, he nods. ]

Dude, that's awesome! And yeah I'd like to meet her, too. She's gotta be as cool as you, right? A-And don't worry about the harsh, or whatever. I, uh, I think I deserved that. Heh. So were you like... together before you got here?

No.

[There's a sense of pride in Rei's answer, a ringing, certainty to it. She is happy, beyond happy really, to have found that connection. It came at an unexpected time, in a hell not of her own making, but it came. And after years of being close it'd finally all clicked into place.]

We've been close since middle school, but it was only recent that we got together. And I think you're probably the first person to describe me as cool, ever.

In any event, I'm glad that's cleared up.
