[ Having worked with Kagari, he can see the signs of irritation. Except, he's not sure where it's stemming from. ]

I haven't... didn't you tell me about it once? Something about someone running with a knife. [ Gino has a fairly good memory, but this was a conversation from a long time ago. Over lunch in the office– he'd been working (as always) and Kagari had been chattering away. So, the normal way they ate lunch together. ]

Hack a Domina–! [ The idea seems so absurd that he's partway through an exclamation when he stops short. Mouth snapping shut hard enough his teeth click together, Ginoza narrows his eyes and turns his full gaze on the redhead. Kagari is only half looking at him, almost as though he's trying to cover. ]

Kasei. It was Kasei. [ He'd almost forgotten about it until now. But he remembers, how he'd held a Dominator in hand, set to Paralyzer mode, as the Chief breathed down his neck to punish Kogami. To bring the Enforcer to justice (even though it had been Gino's call, it had been his loophole–) Filled with shock, he hadn't reacted in time, and Kasei had reached along his arm, Dominator shifting from Paralyzer to Lethal.

He'd shaken for hours afterwards, thinking of how close it'd been to Kogami dying at his hand. ]

[Of course. Of course he would figure it out. Kagari honestly should have expected it; Gino is brilliant and something like this couldn't possibly have stumped him forever. Still, he flinches slightly when he hears Kasei's name. Even if he could, there would be no point in denying it; instead of being relieved that Gino knows, all he feels is exhausted.

He fully looks at Gino without saying anything for a few seconds, then nods.]

Yeah. You got it. [With a weak smile, he runs a hand through his hair, pushing some of it out of his face.] There's no getting anything past you, Gino. You're not too pissed I didn't say it before, are you? I mean, this is a lot of shit to deal with at once, and all.

[ Eventually, he's sure, eventually he would've come to this conclusion, whether he'd seen Kasei shift his Dominator or not. His brows knit together as Kagari flinches, and he feels upset. Angry, even. ]

Kagari. [ How does he even begin? ] I'm not angry with you. If there's anyone I'm furious with, it would be the Chief.

[ Ginoza's expression darkens, eyelids lowering as he glances down. ] She lied to me about you, when I was still Inspector. Everything that was in her power to try and take me off the trail of figuring it out, she did. She even went so far as to try and restrict Kogami's movements as well, or me from utilizing him on the field– we all wanted to find you.

[ At this, his voice wavers, throat seeming to close up. The redhead is sitting in front of him, alive and breathing, but Gino knows when he goes back home (if he ever does), that won't be the case. ]

She pulled a similar stunt; hacking the Dominator, I mean. [ Two and two together make for a clearer picture. Without glasses to fiddle with, he rubs a hand down his face, feeling very weary. ]

[It really isn't surprising that Kasei, that Sybil would go that far to try and hide the fact that he had been killed; it really was easier to die than disappear. A rogue Enforcer must have sounded far more plausible, but he's grateful that it seems that nobody in Division One actually believed he would have made a break for it.

He doesn't miss the way Gino's expression changes or the way his voice catches. It's not even a little bit strange him to be upset even though what happened back on their world is all just memories for now. His own feelings about life back home were still more than he wanted to deal with himself.]

That's shitty, all that, just for a lie. But... thanks, I mean it. [He offers a brief, but more sincere smile at that.] And I'm here now, so hey, job well done, you guys found me after all.

[How many people had ended up with a Dominator pointed at them with their judgement overwritten? That sort of thing couldn't take out someone every time Sibyl had a problem with them, surely. He wonders if that had been an ace up the sleeve for anyone else Sibyl didn't like poking into things.]

Yeah? Hacking a Dominator is just too handy for a one-time trick, I guess. How'd that work out, though? Hopefully better than it did for me.

[ A rogue Enforcer would've sounded plausible if it weren't for the fact that Ginoza knew his team well. As much as he'd created distance between himself and the Enforcers (and Akane), he knew their traits. Their characteristics, positive and negative. Strengths, weaknesses, etc. It'd been something he took careful note of, so he could lead his team effectively. ]

So we did. [ The smile is small, fleeting. More than he would've granted in the past. ]

I almost had to kill Kogami. Kasei had switched the modes from Paralyzer to Elimination. [ He's silent for a moment, trying to work through the memory. ] Tsunemori reacted faster than I did and paralyzed him with her own Dominator.

[ Better than Kagari's ending. ]

[It's gratifying to see Gino smile, however briefly, and Kagari makes a mental note to try and get him to do it more when they're not dealing with such heavy subjects.

Sybil trying to take out Kogami should sound more shocking, and it is surprising, but it also makes Kagari angry. It had sucked about his own death, sure, but it was like Sybil had been bent on ruining things for the others too. He's genuinely glad that at least that attempt had failed, though.]

Never thought I'd be saying this, but it's a good thing Akane shot Ko. Guess it's not all that surprising that a lot of things ended up going to hell after a while.

[He move in his seat, enough that he can stretch, putting his legs out in front of him and his arms over his head.]

Man, all this, you being here, this is not how I thought my day was gonna go.

[ As much as the memory stings and loops, Gino finds himself shaken out of it by Kagari's dark humor. It drudges up something else– Akane's first day on the job. ]

That's twice she did, you know. [ A small, vicious part of him had been glad the first time. Relieved, the second. ] Kogami was never going to let go, you know that. If it meant following Makishima Shogo to hell in order to catch him he was going to do it.

[ And that fact alone leaves him feeling exhausted. ]

Is that good or bad? [ Gino tenses, wondering if he's suddenly overstayed his welcome. ]

[He clearly remembers the aftermath of the first time Akane had shot Kogami. He'd been kind of a dick to her after, actually. He knows even without being told that Kogami would have gone to those lengths in order to bring down Makishima; single-minded didn't even begin to cover it.]

Yeah, well, he got what he wanted, didn't he? Besides, it's not like he's the only stubborn guy I know.

[He notices the way Gino seems more uncomfortable as he takes a moment to think about the question. It could just be awkwardness, but Kagari smiles faintly, but reassuringly.]

It's good, I think. I mean, not ideal, but nothing's all sunshine and rainbows, and I think it's better to know this stuff. It's all because you're here again, and that's actually awesome.

[He pauses. Well, why the hell not be a little ridiculous? He doesn't want Gino tensing up all over again.]

If you ever tell anyone I said this, I'll deny it. I'm pretty glad you wound up in my bathtub, Gino.

[ Gino makes a sound of assent; yes, he knows he's stubborn. Unwilling to let go even if it costs him (and it has, so much, over the years). But he's not the type to let something just slip through his fingers. It's only through sheer determination that he's gotten this far, after all. ]

I don't think much will be ideal for us, ever. [ They're not cut out for that kind of life, are they? ]

Er... [ KAGARI.......... watch as he blushes all the way to his ears. Why are you saying such things!!! ] I guess I'm glad I did too?

[ Too bad he doesn't get the secondary implications. ]

[Anything he wanted to say instantly fades away in the realization that he has well and truly embarrassed Gino. He would feel bad, but he's honestly amazed at the fact that Gino can even turn that shade of red. Normally Akane is the victim of his teasing, but he'll take this, too.]

You-- do you think-- [He can't even bring himself to ask what Gino's thinking, instead just tossing his head back to laugh. It feels good, after how tense everything has been, so he doesn't try to cut it short or even look remotely sorry about it.

When he calms down enough to merely grin, he speaks again.]

Man, I think I needed that, so thanks.

Do I think–? [ He has no idea what Kagari is getting at here. Use your words!! Though even with the fact that Gino can't understand quite what set the redhead off, it's nice to see him laugh. And not just a small sardonic one that he usually has ready. This one is genuine. Weightless (to a point).

Sighing deeply, he just shrugs and attempts to force the blush down from his cheeks. His face still feels like it's on fire. ]

I'd say you're welcome but I'm not even sure what I did.

[Should he explain why Gino's misunderstanding and subsequent blushing were so funny? He could, but that might ruin some of the fun. He shakes his head, smiling still to take any perceived insult out of his words.]

You were you. [Gino's still blushing, which does make him feel a bit bad, especially because it's not his fault that his joke went over his head. Kagari can at least give him some explanation instead of leaving him hanging.]

I probably got a little carried away, myself. You just surprised me, reacting like that, that's all.
