[Honestly it's kind of nice to hear her giggling, even if it might be at him, so Quatre will take it.]

Not so bad at least, I guess. Then I'll be grateful that it isn't much worse.

[He's probably teasing just now. A little. It takes his mind off where they are anyway.]

[A tilt of his head, all curious. No worrying, Mary. Save your worries for important things.]

That is what friends do. But luckily it's not bad. I wouldn't want to worry you.

[Or anyone. ...though heaven knows he gets worried over and scolded for it enough back home, mostly by the Maguanacs and some of his more fretting sisters.]

That's why I said you're a nice person. I think I've only worried about you once so far, anyway.

[ When he passed out on her. ]

Was it when I was a stranger who couldn't stop hugging you? That seemed kind of worrying at the time.

[Though now he thinks back on it fondly, despite the awkward. It led to friendship, right?]

N-no, not that-- [ And there she goes, nice and pink again. ] I was more embarrassed than worried... but when you had a hard time staying awake...

[Yup. He can't help but laugh, quietly, shaking his head.] I was embarrassed too. It's not exactly the best way to meet someone, acting the way I was. But I'm glad we met anyway, even if it was embarrassing.

[But oh. That's sweet, Mary.] I'm sorry to have worried you, but I'm still grateful for your help that day.

You helped me out a lot, too, so I think we're even... well, I mean, you've always helped me out more, but... we actually might not be that even at all...

[ ... Uh... ]

Mary...

[Quatre blinks for a moment before offering a smile.] We're not even at all, you're right.

We're friends, so that sort of thing doesn't even come into it. It's natural for friends to help each other, so there's nothing about being even or otherwise.

[immobileyes]

... Quatre...

[ There's a pause... before she slowly smiles and shakes her head. ]

Mm, you're right. I'll still keep doing my best to help you just as much as you've helped me, though.

[colonially]

Then, I think you're already doing a good job of that. Honestly, it really helps to have found someone I know here.

[The buddy system is a glorious thing, okay? Teamwork will save us all!]

Just that? [ Even though she pretty much threw herself at him as a muddy mess-- ]

Of course. It's always helped me, to be with someone I trust in a new situation.

[Muddy hugs and all.]

[ She knows he trusts her, honestly, but still-- to hear it makes Mary brighten, quietly pleased. ]

Yeah... finding you helped me, too.

[ Not just because she's incompetent. ]

[Of course he trusts her. How could he not, look at her face seriously, especially when she brightens up like that.]

Then I'm glad!

[and she's not incompetent. She just hit a stretch of bad luck.

Speaking of luck. Was that just a noise in the bushes? ...maybe they should go this way. Quatre doesn't say anything, just changes course, nudging at Mary gently.]

[ She's pausing, glancing at him quizzically. Sorry, friend, she noticed that-- ]

Hmm? I think we might be better off going this way. It looks more promising.

[It's fine. It's good. If there's any trouble, he's got this, Mary. Not to worry. He won't let his friend get eaten.]
