[There's at least a little less fanaticism behind that statement than there would have been back when.] Besides, it's true that we owe you and the others more than such disgusting people could hope to repay, isn't it?

[A cheerful enough smile as he straightens up and slings his pack over a shoulder.]

He frowns, even if Komaeda's turning it down from how it used to be. This sort of adulation was annoying enough from Fukawa, and Komaeda doesn't even have the "redeeming quality" of being reliably loyal to him. ] Spare me your groveling. I'm not stupid enough to be swayed by words instead of actions, and if you're proving yourself through your actions, then your words are unnecessary.

[ Then, abruptly: ] How much do you remember?

[Cheerful enough still because sure yes. The SHSL future foundation does indeed have a point. Talk is cheap, Komaeda's talk cheaper than most for how odd it can be sometimes.

I think there are still pieces I'm missing. A lot of it is confused... [He's lived one too many alternate timelines at this point between the Island and the first horrible place he was kidnapped to and now this weird place he was kidnapped too he doesn't even know how old he is anymore.]

...I didn't know how the memory rewriting process would work on someone in your position, is all. I was curious. [ Whether or not it actually comes across as diplomatic, this is actually the more tactful version of expressing this, from Togami's perspective. ] You'd have a lot more to apologize for if you remembered your time with Despair.

[Komaeda lifts a hand to touch his head.] It is a good question, considering everything.

[But. Well. He shakes his head at that, hand falling to wrap around the wrist of his prosthetic. It looks natural enough because Hinata + alien technology has served him well, but it's not his. And it's not the one he attached there.]

I remember enough of that time that I know there's no apology that could cover it. But... Hinata-kun thinks that we can change, can move forward and make better choices, even if it's not something that could be atoned for, we're trying. Even trash like me is trying.

[ He's quiet for a moment, not sure how to respond to that sentiment. Togami isn't the sort of person to offer sympathy to everyone, or to give people an A for effort. But everything he's seen and heard so far has implied that those efforts really are genuine... and effective, too. ]

That's good. It seems that that effort hasn't just been talk. I suppose that's the best you can do so far in your position.
