I'm fine. You haven't done anything wrong, Takeru.

[He can't fault Takeru for looking for someone to care for him when he had no one. That would be wholly unfair. And yet he can't help but feel upset about it... As they approach the water, that proves to be a convenient subject change.]

This must be it.

[Garurumon crouches down low onto his stomach, low enough that both Takeru and Yamato can easily climb off his back.]

[That definitely doesn't make things better. But he knows that his brother needs some space sometimes. Was this one of those times? Before he say anything, that's when they came to a stop with Patamon flying downward.

But still, with him feeling this way, he just pulled his brother toward the pond]

Then c'mon, we better get something to drink! All that chaos sure makes me really thirsty and I'm sure you must be too!

[And all things considered, this does remind him a lot of the last time the both of them were alone in the Digital World]

[Yamato lets him pull him towards the pond, but he balks a little at Takeru's suggestion--]

Hold on, let me try it first. We don't know if it's good to drink or not.

[Behind them, Garurumon roams the area to check it's safe, deciding to stay in his evolved form until he's sure there's nothing lying in wait nearby.]

[Yamato, water u doing? Of course, with Takeru being pulled back, he just looked back up at his brother]

It should be okay! I've been in the jungle before and whenever I drank it, it seemed to be fine!

[Ah, yes, he forgot how protective he could be. Not that he can complain when he missed him so much but at the same time? He was much stronger than he looked!]

Just because you've done this before doesn't mean it's safe here, Takeru. If they want us all to hurt each other, anything could happen.

[In other words, he's cynical enough to expect something like water sources getting poisoned, or for there to be a trap, or something waiting in the water...

Before Takeru can protest any further, Yamato goes down to the water first to take a drink.]

[As he took a look at his brother and then back at the water, he pouted to himself before he walked closer toward him.

While there was that pout on his face, it felt like he should talk to him about something but...]

Is it safe to drink? It's not anything dangerous in there is it?

[Nothing seems off, and nothing seems to be waiting to ambush them. So after taking a few sips, Yamato gets to his feet and nods.]

Yeah... It's fine. Sorry.

[For overreacting. For not believing Takeru when he said he knew what he was doing. Yamato's supposed to be the strong and confident one in this situation, but instead he knows he's making things worse...]

[And in return, the boy just shook his head before flashing a quick smile at him]

No, it's okay! You were trying to protect me so I don't mind!

[Well, kind of. Which was why as he got a few sips from the water, it was clear that he had something else he wanted to talk about. Something he wanted to talk to him for quite sometime since he got here but...]

But I think you should drink some more, you might get really thirsty!

[Yamato decides not to argue and does so, reluctantly crouching down to drink more. After a brief look around the area, Garurumon joins them. Once he's had enough, Yamato glances at his brother.]

We can set up camp here, but we'd better not make a fire or anything that'll attract anyone. Are you hungry?

[He shook his head once more before shifting around his weight a little]

No, I'm not but I can go around and look for something! There should be some fruit in the bushes or the trees nearby!

[Although, he dared not to make a move. Instead, his gaze was still at the water trying to figure out what to say back to his brother really]

[Yamato frowned down at him in concern when he noticed Takeru staring at the water. And for once, he couldn't tell what Takeru was thinking. How could he, when from Takeru's perspective, they'd been separated for months?

He's not very good at talking, but he'll do his best for his little brother's sake.]

What's wrong, Takeru?

[To tell him or not to tell him, he thought to himself. Should he ask and accidentally make his brother mad or should he just not say anything and pretend everything's fine?

While he had this thought once or twice before he never got a chance to say it until now. But was the risk worth it?]

I think I'm just a little tired but I think I'll be okay. [....which...was a total lie]

[Yamato looks at him for a long moment, then sits down by the bank of the water. He can easily guess that it's not just tiredness that's the problem.]

Are you sure that's all...? If there's something bothering you, you can tell me.

[It felt hypocritical to say, when there was so much he never confided in anyone... Except more recently, Gabumon. But he doesn't want Takeru to have his own bad habits, or to feel like there are things they can't talk about.]

[Then there was a long pause on his end before he said something]

...If I say it, promise me that you won't be mad?

[Right now, he felt like he was a kid who was guilty of something doing he shouldn't. With him fidgeting around, he was starting to regret it]

I promise. You can tell me anything, and I won't get mad.

[He says it firmly. Whatever he's about to be told, he should be able to put Takeru before his own feelings, and this is something he clearly needs to get out in the open.]

[And then there was a pause.

A very long pause.

And then even longer pause until....!]

Remember when you got really mad at the Digital World? And that you had to go away for a while before you came back? You weren't mad at me because of what I said did you?

[Please don't be mad, please don't be mad, please don't be mad!!]

Takeru...

[Yamato is taken aback at the question, and goes quiet, looking away. That wasn't what he expected, and he has to take a few moments to collect his thoughts.]

I wasn't mad at you. I wasn't mad at anyone -- not even Taichi, even though we fought. I just... needed time alone to figure some things out.

[As with most Yamato things: It's Complicated.]

[Takeru could only give a sigh of relief. At least his brother wasn't mad at him for asking the question. Although, a new challenge arised from asking such a thing.]

Then what did you figure out? Because whatever happened, it must have made you really happy! And when you wanted to see everyone again too!

[But then again, maybe this was one of those things he shouldn't ask. And especially regarding his brother]

It did make me happy. I realised I have friends I can count on, no matter what.

[Garurumon pads over to nuzzle him, and Yamato reaches out to pat his wolf-like snout. He couldn't have come back without his help... without someone to believe in him, even when he lost his way. He's omitting a lot of details, like just how lonely he felt in the first place, but he doesn't want to upset Takeru with anything like that.

That's one of the reasons he had to go away in the first place, after all.

He looks back at his little brother.]

I realised I didn't always treat you fairly, either. I kept treating you like a kid, but you learned and grew a lot in the Digital World. So... I'm sorry.

[Maybe it's an overdue apology, or maybe Takeru didn't think it would be one that needed to be made. Still, he feels like he should say it all the same.]

That explains it! I was wondering why you were suddenly so happy to see us and why you were able to help Sora-san out!

[Especially with how he seemed to know what she was going through too. But Takeru couldn't stop smiling knowing that his brother was truly okay after what happened. Still, he felt like he owed an apology too.

With that, he sat closer toward his brother before he looked up at him]

But it's okay, I don't mind! You were just trying to protect me and that's what big brothers are suppose to do right? [Even if he had to admit, his protectiveness was rather overbearing]

I think I owe you an apology too. I didn't know that saying those words would make you really sad and maybe I shouldn't have said them if I knew it was going to.

[Yamato shakes his head.] You didn't do anything wrong, Takeru. It was all my own fault. I wanted things to be different to how they were, but I was just being selfish... You could say I needed to grow up a little, too.

[He doesn't want to patronise Takeru with the whole 'you'll understand when you're older' talk, but he's really not sure Takeru will get it, even if he does explain. So for now, he leaves it at that.]

Why bring this up all of a sudden, anyway?

[As he took a sip from the water, he just gave a sigh]

When you said that I should be careful about drinking the water, it just reminded of me how you would watch over me a lot.

[While he looked up to Yamato, there were times that he did have to wonder what was his brother thinking]

So I didn't want you to be mad again when I don't want that all the time.

I'm sorry. And I'm not mad at you for being honest. With everything that's happened since I got here... I just panicked.

[A lot of this is like the Digital World, but in other ways it isn't. And not knowing how to react made it harder for him to believe Takeru knew what he was doing and was already familiar with it all.]

They told me some stuff when I woke up here... about what happened to all the worlds. Which means Dad and Mom... everyone... and even the Digital World...

[He looks away, his eyes beginning to well up with tears. He doesn't know what to believe any more.]

[He knew that feeling well.

How when he first got here, he thought he and Patamon were alone here. Knowing that everyone they knew was gone, how he had to figure out how to survive here, and so.

Which was why he decided to get up and quickly gave his brother a hug. Time for Takeru to be strong for his brother!]

I think they're lying. A lot of stuff happened while I was here and I don't know if they're telling the truth or not! But I know they aren't telling us everything either!

[Yamato hugs Takeru back, and wipes at his eyes. He wasn't crying, honest!] I didn't want to believe it, not after we fought so hard... But what makes you think they're lying?

[The Chosen Children had fallen into all kinds of traps in the past, even if it never seemed that way at the time. Could this really be another one of them?]
