You're better off using live bait. A worm, or an insect.
[He's going to expect her to object to that. Maybe they should have a plan B that doesn't require any bait. Or forget fishing altogether.]
Anyway, what's the last thing you remember before you arrived here?
no subject
I think these fishes have a little more refined taste than that, Mr. Edgeworth! But if you really want to get some worms... I won't stop you.
[Yeah, he should definitely do it. Him and not her!!!]
[but she does tense up very slightly when he asks. If he had the magatama, psycholocks would be popping up everywhere.]
Huh....? Why? Is this a memory quiz?
no subject
[He hums in thought, tapping the hilt of his sword. Edgeworth had not asked her this even during her first time in Cerealia.]
Anyway, you probably know that all of us are from different points in time. It's 2019 for me and Larry, while Wright is eight years ahead of that.

[Maya's eyes flick between him and the sword, still hedging around the question. Yeah, she knows that much - everyone but Ema is years ahead of her. It makes her feel really young and small sometimes.]
You guys are all way ahead of me.... But didn't you end up at that other world, Mr. Edgeworth....?
no subject
I did, yes. When that happened, it was March of 2019 for me. While I was here, I was sent home twice more. Now, it is April 2019.
I wanted to check if your point in time has changed.
no subject
Just like that. After all the time you spent there and here, you just... went home and came back?
[She seems to be mulling over this, as someone else who's spent time "away from home". She's also deciding how much she should admit to Edgeworth-- such as the fact that she never went home at all.]
[If anything, he'd get it. But she doesn't want to worry him, and it's just really difficult to talk about her experiences when her memory doesn't line up with anyone else's]
I... um, my time at home hasn't changed at all.
no subject
That's right.
[Edgeworth strokes his chin. Well, nothing has changed appearance-wise; then again, even if two years passed and Maya was finally lining up with his own point in time, would she really change that much physically?]
Hmm...I see. [He gives a wry chuckle, gazing up at the sky as if expecting someone to fall right out of it.] Has Wright or anyone else told you about the future?
no subject
[Maya follows his gaze up to the sky]
That's so weird... how can you just go back like that, after everything....? Did you still remember what happened to you?
[Would something like that happen to her, if she ever went home? She doesn't really think it's a possibility to begin with (even if it was, she can't--), but if even Edgeworth has...]
A little. Dork age of the law or something, right? But Nick doesn't wanna tell me anything, so I have to press and squeeze him for everything!
no subject
I remember everything, including my trip to that other world. [Sometimes, it felt like a lot to hold. Hardly any time passed back home while he was in Death City, and somehow that large chunk of time fit in his timeline.
Dork age of the law? Close enough.]
It was the dark age of the law, but really, wouldn't one consider the time Manfred von Karma spent in the Prosecutors' Office a dark age as well?
no subject
...It's not really something you can talk about to many people, huh? They'd think you were crazy.
[but then again, from her timeline... he'd just been accused of murder. Cleared, still, but....]
Yeah, that guy was a real creep. I'd say the age of the law was way darker before we took him down!
no subject
They would, yes. [His forehead furrows, his mouth an almost unreadable line.] And I've grown weary of being brought to other worlds against my will.
[Edgeworth sounds genuinely tired and absolutely sick of everything he's had to put up with.]
no subject
[Maya can sympathize, though she doesn't say as much. She, too, is really tired of getting kidnapped against her will - especially for murder-y purposes - even if CERES is by far the tamest of her kidnappers]
Weeeell... we all we gotta do is reprogram our world so you can go back, right?
no subject
[He's not optimistic.]
Who knows? Perhaps our world may not even need reprogramming after all.
[Considering that he's been able to return to it twice without a hitch.]
