Oh come on, don't call me 'sir' that just means I am old.
[He sighs.]
But, I guess you have a point. My brother used to say that I had an obligation to survive. He always thought we were better than everyone else.

[That's a bit of a concerning attitude for a brother to have - and one that definitely rings warning bells in someone like Jonathan, but he has no reason or right to assume anything about Darin's brother besides the fact that he may be a little self-important.]
I wouldn't call it an obligation, but I always resolved to live in a way that, if they looked down from Heaven, my family would be proud of what I've done.

[He rubs the back of his head.]
Nah, Dromas knew we were special...even when we were kids he used to act out. We were stronger than most other kids so...he used to say that he and I were 'destined to be greater than people.'
It used to get on my nerves but...I was too timid to say anything.

He gulps. He's getting carried away with his own thoughts here.]
I think I might know how you feel. It wasn't exactly the same, and the situation wasn't always like that, but my own brother acts similarly.
It's...complicated, to say the least.

[He mutters the next part under his breath, though perhaps a bit too loudly.]
Especially when they come back from the dead as psychopaths...

D-Did you say...?!
[No, no no no, this cannot have happened.]

You heard that last part, huh.

[How does he put this delicately?]
Do you mind talking about what happened? I think I may have some idea of what you've been through.

[Darin runs his hand through his hair a bit grumpily.]
My twin brother Dromas...he was killed along with my birth father when we were five years old. I was cut down too, but...well, I'm a little harder to kill I guess...so I survived.
Jump to nineteen years later...about a month ago on my world. An ambassador from a neighboring kingdom gets murdered and I'm framed as the culprit. Eye witness described me perfectly. So I go on a journey to find the guy who was using my face to clear my name. Finally, after a month of being on the road, I get a lead and find the guy.
Turns out...it's Dromas. The Archfiends that tried to kill me apparently decided to drag his soul into their realm. I guess he grew in power there and he busted out on his own and now he wants to wipe out humanity.
[He conveniently leaves out the part where he and Dromas are the living embodiment of the end of the world and it's their destiny to kickstart the apocalypse.]

H...How abhorrent of him! He sounds almost like...
[Yeah, that. He doesn't say the name directly, and he's not going to divulge too much information about Dio to a stranger. On top of that, he isn't entirely sure what an Archfiend is, but it doesn't sound like something that hangs around with puppies and fields of flowers.]
For what it is worth, I am truly sorry for your loss. I know it can be difficult, being the only person who survives time and again.

I appreciate that. I've been lucky. I was taken in by a good man and raised to be a blacksmith. I owe him my life.
