Learning is Fundamental! Let's play CERESLearn

ViViD's usual worlds are unfortunately down for maintenance. While CERES' programmers work on getting it back up and running, all new entrees this round will be going through a different level than usual. Only a single world is accessible at the moment, a simple one entitled 'CERESLearn.' "What the $%@& is this?" you must be thinking. Well, it's simple!

It's a study program, of course! CERES' advanced AI technology is here to make sure you learn and that you learn sexily. Whether or not you pay attention to the actual content is up to you, the player. Please enjoy it while it lasts. They're here to teach you a variety of subjects and also to make you feel vaguely uncomfortable all over.

New arrivals and those logging into ViViD will first find themselves in a classroom with a new operator greeting them rather than Vidia.
"Greetings and welcome to Cerealia! It's nice of you to join us at last. As you can see, we're just about to get started!

Here are the instructions:

♥ Choose your subject of choice. They include things like medicine, math, CERES economics, CERES history, fun facts about Julius, engineering, and science!
♥ Choose your tutor. You can hire Astor, Hilda, or UN-Zippy
♥ They'll teach you slowly, deliberately, sensually. Then after that, they'll drill you hard and without stopping.
♥ Just when you think you've had enough, they'll quiz you all over until you're sweating and panting.
♥ For those of you who pass, you'll be welcomed well into Cerealia and be given a free voucher for a McCERES Mildly Content meal. Please enjoy!"

//SCENARIOS.EXE
PHASE I
[ xx:xx ] Once you choose your lesson and your tutor, you will be transported to a classroom where you and a few other players who decide to choose the same lesson will sit with your tutor after school, getting knowledge taught to you by someone who seems more intent on learning what's under your clothes than filling your head with knowledge. They will be awkwardly stretching, dropping pencils by 'accident' on the floor, and bending down slowly to pick them up. Certain things might be spilling out of their clothes. Awkward things. They will breathe down your neck and make sure you are well-versed in their anatomy by the end of the lesson.

Fortunately, it won't last long as their bodies start to flicker erratically.
PHASE II
[ xx:xx ] Just as things begin to escalate, the flickering will grow intense until your tutor will start to morph before your eyes. What takes their place is something that is anything but friendly. And yes, it will continue to breathe down your neck and speak in a sweet, soft, alluring voice while reaching out with its 'hands' to try and touch you.

This will be your cue to run through the halls of the school while That Thing chases you in every single direction imaginable. There will be others joining you as everyone starts bolting out of their classrooms.
PHASE III
[ xx:xx ] Feeling tired already? Well, don't stop and rest now! For those who successfully murder their own tutor, they will get their food voucher and a lovely welcome into CERES. You've officially passed! Everyone will be allowed to mingle around the game room in the CERES Research Tower before being directed into McCERES just across the street. For those who were already in the colony, you will also receive a voucher and directions to McCERES at the end of the game in case you want to go meet up with the newcomers there or just eat some artery-killing fast food.

PHASE IV
[ xx:xx ] For those who get eaten by That Thing or don't pass their quizzes and upset their tutors, they will be forced to endure the Price of Failure. This means being sent to the gym with the other 'failures' to endure a painfully slow and erotic striptease by UN-Zippy. Once that is over, they will then be logged out and allowed to have their complimentary McCERES voucher.

BONUS
[ why:o'clock ] Congratulations on surviving CERESLearn! Here's your complimentary voucher for a free Mildly Content Meal at McCERES. This month's special is also the McKnight Burger. Characters are immediately invited to take a load off and enjoy some good ol' fashion fast food of questionable origin. Those who decide to order and eat here will also get a special toy included inside their Mildly Content Meals.
[ Remember to apply proper warnings on threads with trigger-y or inappropriate material and do let a mod know if your thread careens off into maiming or canoodling so we can lock the log. ]

Welcome to CEREALIA's latest intro post. For your convenience, we have compiled a post detailing everyone's usual arrival experience (which is not entirely applicable this round for reasons stated above^) and a FAQ that should explain everything in more detail. Please read them thoroughly before playing. Thank you!

Thanks! I will. [Since he will probably Struggle™ with his CereVice when the time comes...

But he lapses into momentary silence at the question, since there isn't really an answer he can give.]

Mm... I don't really know what the world was called. We didn't see much of it - just an amusement park called Dreamland and an abandoned warehouse a few miles away from it.
thirdarrow: (neutral ♒ Ixobrychus cinnamomeus)

[personal profile] thirdarrow 2014-11-25 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ... that's definitely not Hinoto-Ri, then. ]

I see. I have never heard of it, my apologies. [ There are many other worlds besides the ones he has visited, after all. ] I did visit a nexus point between worlds, too - but I doubt it is the same as yours. [ Oz could have appeared outside the dome, but it's highly unlikely. ]

Such places do give us many opportunities to learn about other cultures.
harepiece: (always cheats at uno)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-11-25 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It's fine! That's better - it's better if you haven't.

[Because if he had, he probably went through the same thing, and that's an experience Oz wouldn't even wish on Jack. BUT, he'd much rather focus on the good rather than the overwhelming bad, like the friends that he managed to make and as Takakage has said, the different learning opportunities.]

I learned a lot of things while I was there, it's true. Things like TVs and music videos and movies and Blue Velvet... Oh— and cell phones! Was it the same for you?
thirdarrow: (smile ♒ Pterodroma hypoleuca)

[personal profile] thirdarrow 2014-11-26 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Hmm. That is something worth noting. Of course, it isn't polite to ask, so he just files it away for later investigation. It does make sense if a malicious force was able to cross barriers between worlds, like how Philemon did.

He covers up the slight lapse with a nod. ]
Likewise. I met those of the future, and they showed me many things that had been created since I passed on.

[ And he's smiling now, thinking about all the time he's spent reading and catching up. ]

After all that time, there are still people who hold books in high regard. It's wonderful.
harepiece: (the good medicine)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-11-27 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad for that, too! [He is, after all, a fairly avid reader. To know that there are still kids years down the road enjoying different stories in the same way... There's something nice about that.]

I guess no matter how many things might change, there will always be a few that stay the same. It's comforting, isn't it? No matter how much of the world becomes unrecognizable, those little pieces will still exist.
thirdarrow: (joy ♒ Pterodroma solandri)

[personal profile] thirdarrow 2014-11-27 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. [ He says this with a smile. ] And it is through these things that the human spirit still continues through the ages.

[ But back to books. ]

Do you like books, Oz? [ Dear lord there better be people who can still appreciate the beauty of literature in this place. ]
harepiece: (i can see alaska)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-11-27 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Good bye, waxing poetry on the human spirit, good bye forever... because Oz is 100% focusing on the new topic. Books.]

I do! I haven't really had the chance to read anything in a while, but it's one of my favorite things to spend my time on. Nothing can beat sitting down and getting lost in a good book!
thirdarrow: (chibi ♒ Nipponia nippon)

[personal profile] thirdarrow 2014-11-27 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
[ Takakage's eyes immediately light up with a particular intensity usually not associated with someone so placid and calm. ]

Beautiful. I am so glad that there are still individuals who can appreciate books in this time and place. [ His voice gets a little condescending here. ] There is a library here, but the majority of their books have been degraded into mere text files.

But! If you are interested in books, I have a small collection that you can peruse.
harepiece: (a heart of glue)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-11-27 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Text files? [The term is clearly unfamiliar to this nerd, but he is also the sort of person who would read a story even if it were graffiti'd onto the side of an important memorial if it was good enough, so it likely won't be an issue...

The collection does indeed seem to pique his interest, though! His expression brightens a little and he nods once.]

Would that be all right? If it really would, I'd love to!
thirdarrow: (smile ♒ Anser cygnoides)

[personal profile] thirdarrow 2014-11-28 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
Text files. Mere words shown on their electronic screens. [ He retrieves his CereVice from his pocket and indicates it. ] Not only do they strain the eyes, they also don't have that feel of authenticity to it. Words in print are more genuine.

[ BUT YES. BOOKS. ]

Of course! [ Books are meant to be shared. ] I have esoteric interests, so not everything may be to your taste. What genres do you prefer?
harepiece: (let me think about that)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-11-28 08:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see... [HE DOESN'T, but he will soon enough when he goes poking his nose around places to find these text files himself.]

I'm not too picky, though! Historical texts, novels, biographies... But if I'm honest, my favorite books are fantasy. [HOLY KNIGHT.]
thirdarrow: (enthuse ♒ Haliaeetus pelagicus)

[personal profile] thirdarrow 2014-11-28 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[ You can just ask. Takakage has all of them. (Even though he doesn't like them, it's still text!!) ]

Wonderful. [ He says this evenly, beaming. ] I have them, yes. Have you heard of the Lord of the Rings series? It was written by an Earth human - a main trilogy that spawned many, many books set in the same setting. There is also the Harry Potter series, again, written by an Earth woman. Not only a bestseller, but a book entrancing children and adults alike. I have the whole set.

[ And a lot, a lot, more. ]
harepiece: (it's unpossible)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-11-28 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Shaking his head almost right away!! Because:]

I've never read anything that comes from Earth before. [Being from a weird fantasy rendition of pseudo-Victorian Europe and all on some unidentified vague planet...] So if you suggest those, I can start there! How many books are in the Harry Potter series? Oh—! And do you know if they have Holy Knight here?
thirdarrow: (thoughtful ♒ Tetrastes bonasia)

[personal profile] thirdarrow 2014-11-29 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
[ That's reasonable. That other nexus point might not have such books. ]

Seven. Regrettably the authoress has not had as productive a writing career as the man who painted the Lord of the Rings, but it does come with a few supplementary materails. [ But of Holy Knight... ] I'm afraid I haven't heard of it. [ Even with his extensive reading. ] But since this is a nexus city, they should have it somewhere...

[ He taps his chin thoughtfully. ]

I'll look around, and see if I can find any.
harepiece: (i can see alaska)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-11-29 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, that should be easy to catch up on, at least! [Considering Holy Knight is like 20+ volumes and he's still got ten years of missing time and new books that he should eventually get to...]

Thank you! I hope they have it... It's my very favorite series, so if they do, I suggest that you give it a read!

[In exchange for the recommendations he's been given so far and all!!]
thirdarrow: (neutral ♒ Ixobrychus cinnamomeus)

[personal profile] thirdarrow 2014-11-29 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I will. [ He says this with a firm nod. MORE BOOKS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME. ] Thank you for the recommendation.

[ But to bring the topic all the way back to what he had originally intended to ask... ]

By the by, do you have your access card with you, and know where your apartment is?

[ Some of the new arrivals don't just yet. ]
harepiece: (thrown to the waters)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-11-29 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Flying off into booktalk is always welcome... But Oz will refocus on the question easily enough, since that seems like an important thing to affirm. He'll stick his hand into his pocket to dig around.]

I think so... Ah! This thing, right? [And he extracts his card, looking up curiously and holding it out.]
thirdarrow: (smile ♒ Anser cygnoides)

[personal profile] thirdarrow 2014-11-29 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[ They can talk more about books after the important things are settled. ]

Yes, this. It serves as your identity card here. Please don't lose it. [ Getting a new one is quite a hassle, too. ] It's also a credit card - it carries your virtual money so you don't have to put bills in a wallet.

[ Personally, he preferred paper money, but oh well. ]

You get a free house here, too. That card will be the key.
harepiece: (but idiots can't catch colds!)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-11-30 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Well, that's convenient, having everything in one place like that. [He holds the card up a little, tilting it side to side and looking over its surface.]

A free house is nice, too! Those are all in the housing district, right? I heard someone talking about the apartments earlier.
thirdarrow: (reading ♒ Aythya fuligula)

[personal profile] thirdarrow 2014-11-30 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
But its importance means that you need to take care of it. [ Not that he doubts Oz would lose it, just that its status needs to be stressed. ]

They certainly look after the basics quite well. That being said, if you find the devices inside puzzling, you can contact me. I can explain them to you.

[ He himself didn't rely on much technology, but he certainly knows how they work. ]
harepiece: (always cheats at uno)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-11-30 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I will. [A nod! He luckily is not the sort of absentminded person who would accidentally end up losing something that important, and it seems he appreciates the warning.]

Thanks! I think I'll go take a look at the apartments first, but once I get settled, maybe we can meet again?
thirdarrow: (content ♒ Anas acuta)

[personal profile] thirdarrow 2014-12-01 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course. I believe my contact is in the public registry on your CereVice - if you message me, I will respond.

[ But speaking of messages. ]

Ah, by the way - sometimes unnecessary and irrelevant mail may end up in your inbox. Might I suggest tweaking the privacy settings of your messages? I filtered mine so that only humans can access it.

[ So far nothing has bypassed the barrier, but you never know. ]
harepiece: (let me think about that)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-12-01 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be sure to remember that! [Good lord, so many things to remember. It's a benefit to him here that he has such a strong memory...]

I think that I might need some help figuring that out later, but I'll save it for after I'm done with everything else. Thanks for letting me know! You've really been a lot of help.
thirdarrow: (smile ♒ Ixobrychus eurythmus)

[personal profile] thirdarrow 2014-12-02 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
It's no problem. [ He says with a firm nod. ] It can be hard to adjust to a new environment, after all - and the technology here does not make things easier.

[ But he's taken up a lot of Oz's time, already. ] Shall I see you around, then?
harepiece: (give me sunlight)

[personal profile] harepiece 2014-12-02 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure it'll be at least a little help once I actually get used to it, if nothing else! [As long as his toaster doesn't gain sentience and decide to attack him, anyway?!

But he'll nod at that.]

Mm! Take care until then! [And with a parting wave, HE'S OFF, probably to go collect his dumb roommate.]
