A. Closet Otaku - Any day
[Hubert might think that he’s blessed to have the job he has, but it comes with one downfall. It means he has to be careful at work to actually not show interest in the anime and manga around him while showing the knowledge base to prove he’s capable of working there. Of course, once in a while his fanboy will pop through, but then he controls himself. It would be unprofessional to show that side of him anyhow.
However, thanks to his position, he’s able to watch through many anime series (there’s no such things as TVs in his world so to watch his manga in motion is a godsend) and read through an assortment of manga of all different genres that definitely keep him entertained. To top it off, he’s getting paid for it, which ultimately makes him happy, but also kind of distraught. He’s used to the life of constant studying to make one of his fathers happy (whether his biological or adopted). For once he’s not under that pressure. And it feels odd.
However, seriously, come on in. Perhaps a story about a boy who gets thrown into a fantasy harem?*. Or maybe a sad timetravel series?* Or maybe even a virtual reality story?*. Whatever it may be Hubert definitely has the knowledge base.
So hello valued customer! Looking up from his his own reading*, he pushes up against the bridge of his glasses.]
Good day, how may I assist you?
[His voice is almost monotone, but nonetheless very professional.]
*disclaimer: all series linked are going to be some sort of related knockoff to avoid 4th wallage.
B. A Day at the Gym - 1/15
[Even if he has no need to, Hubert needs to keep up his training regimen. Treadmills are especially nice because he can get in a good run in a controlled climate. So he’ll definitely be on one of those for a bit. If anyone is next to him and tries to talk to him, they’ll probably get a good glare from him.
Though after that, a quick clean up and then to the swimming pool. Not anything too tenuous, he did that while running, but maybe a few laps around the pool. Though he wouldn’t mind a racing partner, it’d be someone to push himself a little with.
And after that, a nice time to sit in the hot tub. A good way to ‘cool down’. And with his glasses fogging up, no one can likely see the scathing glare he has when someone tries to talk to him when he’s literally just trying to decompress for the day and go home.
By all means, please everyone, bother him!]
C. Making My Way Downtown - 1/16
[No, that was not him that snuck into the arcade! You totally didn’t see him go in there or wanting to go in there. He was just passing by and was curious and going to go get a drink from the nearby restaurants.
But for those in the arcade, Hubert can be seen hogging the Soul Calibur rip off fighting game, playing the same damn hero over and over again and… actually getting really good at it. To the point, the game’s starting to bore him. Maybe it’s time to move on to a new character to play. Or maybe someone should challenge him to a two-player vs. match. Regardless, he’s… pretty hardcore about this game and might be more interesting to watch considering every single input he has for the game is perfectly timed and calculated.
For those outside of the arcade, he’ll be sitting in an outside venue sipping on a drink, eating a rice omelet. Yes, that is a heart drawn with ketchup on top. Don’t judge him.]

And he wanders a bit closer to gaze at the screen as he plays.]
Oh, you're pretty good, [he notes, admiring, once Hubert takes down another character. As a gamer he knows not to interrupt another in the middle of a match!!!]

Yes, I've been practicing. [It's probably clear with how well timed a lot of his attacks are that he's been playing this game quite a lot. He also has a guide with all the moves of all the characters thanks to a certain Christmas gift he got, so that makes it even easier for him.
But on to the next match. He's entirely focused so he's not even thinking of two player, not until his arcade run is up.]

[He'll fall quiet again as Hubert gets into his next match, watching attentively, watching his moves. Yep. He's definitely practiced a lot.]
But have you played against anyone else? [His hands are resting lightly on his hips.]
no subject
[Though it's never a bad thing to play against a human opponent. Such strategy that is needed is much different than when playing a computer. So for Hubert, he sees it as a challenge.]
Do you wish to challenge me?

[Naoki nods and steps from where he was spectating behind him to stand more next to him.]
What d'you think, wanna take me on?

[Hubert shifts to make room for the other person so they can start a two-player match.]

Always nice to find a guy who doesn't mind taking me up on a challenge.

It's on a whim, but she figures there's no harm in trying any of this out. At least it'll take up her time. When Hubert greets her, she nods slightly at him, polite and mannered.]
Good afternoon. I was looking for something to try reading or watching. Is there anything you'd recommend in particular?
no subject
Are there any particular genres that you prefer? Based on that, I can give you a more specific recommendation that would be to your liking.

[Putting a bookmark in his manga, he sets it on the counter and ventures out into the main part of the store as he pokes through the sections. Some in the horror section, some in the romance, some in the general supernatural.]
This one is more lighthearted, however I found it to be quite an emotionally investing series. I would recommend it to people even if they weren't fond of ghost stories. This one, I admit, is more on the horror and gruesome side of things if you prefer that. [She didn't look it, but he can't judge a book by it's cover. He wants to, but for sales, it's best not to.]
And while not entirely about ghosts and more oriented in the supernatural, I can also recommend this series if you're looking for something slightly different.
[At least this will help him gauge her interest, then he can make further recommendations on that.]

C
Those are mostly FPS games. He starts, in fact, at one pretty near the game Hubert's playing. There's no real reason for him to pay attention to a random nerdy-looking dude playing one of the other machines, and so he doesn't . . . until he completes a circuit of all the games he's interested in, wanders back to the first one, and what d'you know, the guy's still there. Who even plays a game for that long, anyway?
Well, his attention's caught--he was about done gaming anyway, there's only so much he can take--and he wanders up to take a peek at how good this guy is, stopping a short distance behind him and watching for a bit. Someone spending this long on a game is either really good or really really bad. This time it's "really good," which becomes obvious immediately.]
--Whoa, damn, you're cleanin' up! You totally sent him flyin'!
[Unlike some more polite people in this post, he sees no breach of etiquette in just talking to this stranger in the middle of his gaming.]
please forgive my late reply
Though once he hears someone talking directly to him, his concentration is thrown off as a couple of hits from the CPU are taken, however nothing he can't recover from as he ends the match. Once he does, he turns to glare at the person that dared to disturb his concentration.]
In what world do you think it is okay to disturb someone while it is clear that they are focusing on the task at hand?
[Dude, chill, it's a video game...]
IT COOL
[Leon leans on the machine and gives him a Look. Yup, this guy's as awkward as he'd seemed; what is with guys like that and video games? Is this like a substitute for interacting with people or something? It's not that Leon 100% doesn't get that, but there's a difference between holing up in your room and doing it in a public arcade:]
Ain't the whole point to show off how awesome you are? So why complain when someone says that? You totally won anyway!
A.
She's not sure what she was looking at but they all looked like a lot of things she didn't quite understand. ]
... Eh...?
[ She didn't notice him there. ]
Ah... Not quite sure since I've never see any of this before.

All of this is a form of entertainment. Much like plays, there are many genres to choose from and you can watch them at your leisure. Think of it like that.
[He's able to keep his courteous manners in place, though he doesn't appear to be smiling. Then again, he never smiles so no one should ever take offense.]
no subject
Ah, so it's just that huh? It sounds really simple but everything looks rather complicated.
[ She's quite used to politeness without a smile. There were plenty of people she knew that hardly ever smiled. ]
What would you recommend for a first timer?
