( ViViD: The worst train ride home, ever | IC: 08/16 )

[ If it weren't for the fact that coming back meant that there was a mix of memories in his head trying to sort themselves into place he might have noticed the warning signs sooner. The signs for Low Energy Levels that kept flashing up were mostly ignored as he just stands in the middle of nothing, hand against his head with his eyes shut tight because it's been a long while, so much has happened and it's weird to figure out that yes, everything is real.

Even this place where he had to get used to technology and a new way of life. His hair is shorter, he's older (though only a little more in age, but in wisdom and life much much more) as too much has happened.

It's a good, long ten or so minutes before he pays attention to the setting. The command prompt and so called "safe mode" mean very little to him so he presumes it's just part of the setting for ViViD this time. At least he knows enough about coming back after one of these trips to know where he probably is, otherwise this would have been even more disorientating. ]

...Hello?

[ Well, it's ViViD but usually there's someone hanging around. Instead it just... feels silent. Like there's nothing else there.

That is, of course, when the signs for low energy levels start going a bit crazier when he starts to walk--his throat starts to feel tight.

And he can't find the exit. ]

Of course the exit wouldn't be that easy to see here, because nothing could ever be easy.

[ Are you someone who was glitched here, or were you ~~stupid~~ brave enough to log in? Too bad, they aren't getting out of this unscathed apparently... ]

( 01: Energy Levels 93% | IC: 08/17 Morning )

[ He'd spent enough time staring at the change on his wrist to know that it probably shouldn't be there, but considering he didn't understand the majority of what was on the ViViD level the day before anyway he just brushes it off for now. He just assumes he should ask someone like Hiro who actually understands the technology here. Of course, that's until he's ran into the problem of Shigeru melting half the flat, his bed trying to eat him and a number of other things technology related.

Is this the real life or is it just fantasy-- it's hard to tell anymore. But. There are people he needs to see knowing that he's probably been missing for days now.

He makes sure he's dressed properly before he grabs his card and key and runs out the door. It's possible you'll catch him at the door if you've noticed he's back by now, if not, he's calling on doors or going to people's places of work or where he assumes they might be by now to check how they are.

By the time he gets there though, his wrist is probably glowing with 76% Weird. But he does force a smile and pretend like nothing has happened to some people. ]

Hello! Didn't expect to see you here. [ Nevermind????? That he came??????? to you??????? ]

( 02: Glitching 100 years into the future | IC: 08/17 Late Afternoon )

[ While the network might say he's back, if you haven't ran into him during the morning, there are some major differences now. For one thing, he doesn't really look like his younger self at all, nor is he acting quite as polite as he might normally be.

A poor alien might walk in front of him and he yells out: Are y'r eyes in the back of your head?! Watch where you're going! along with a sneer. One thing is for sure though... he seems to be enjoying himself??????

The next time though it might be you doing something that doesn't quite pass his idea of acting well, whether it's you pushing in front of him in a queue, accidentally walking in front of him, or just being there and him wanting to be a pain in the butt. Whatever you're doing might give him reason to decide to call you out on it.

What a rude old man. ]

[ nowhere is safe, really. and athena didn't plan on going home yesterday, but she had no other place to go. she eventually figured that if she slept on the floor, she maybe she wouldn't get flung at the wall. so that's how she slept that night, and how she plans on sleeping these next coming days. until things are resolved, anyway.

she hasn't been going to work either, or leaving her apartment for that matter. but with what happened yesterday, she was forced to move her ass. nothing bad has happened today (yet) which is good. she took it as a sign to maybe do some chores. buy some groceries. something to help ai, because she hasn't been making it easy for anybody.

she doesn't expect a visitor by the time she comes home, though. and while she knew merlin would come back... well, she just didn't expect this. it's why she tenses up and her hold on the paper bags she has around her arms tightens.

don't move. don't move. don't run to him, she tells herself. it isn't an easy feat, but she manages to do it. in the end, she just responds, rather uneasily at that, with: ]

Um, yeah... I— I didn't expect it either.

[ she's shaking. her heart is pounding. ]

I. I forgot something downstairs.

[ well, that's a lie, but she does walk a few steps backwards before she tries to run for the elevator. ]

[ What kind of maniac sleeps on the floor, though even with that in place he doesn't exactly expect her to try and run away when she sees him. Sure, he didn't expect things to be Okay. They'd talked about this. This being one of them leaving. It has only been a few days but still--

This is Awkward.

To think he came here pretty quickly after waking up after that adventure in ViViD, now he doesn't really know what to say. How much to say. ]

Did you... want me to take that for you?

[ Because it looks like she's going to drop it--only then she's walking backwards and what the-- ]

Athena, wait!

[ Don't... run away?! ]

[ she's going to run away as much as she can. when she reaches the end of the hall, she presses on the elevator button rapidly as if desperate for the doors to open. there's a sound from inside meaning the elevator is probably on its way up, but it's taking far too long. she doesn't know if the machine's busted again (thanks, ceres!). she doesn't like it.

she knew he'd come back eventually. he promised. he'd come back. he'd always come back. that's why she wasn't even upset that he disappeared. it hurt, of course it did, but what hurt most was the fact that this told her this wouldn't last forever. all that talk about destiny, about meaning everything to each other. . . it's not real. none of it is. she thought it was, but him leaving made her realise that he really will leave one of these days. that she's going to leave one of these days.

and it's tearing her apart. even up to now, when she gives up on pressing the button. when she's just looking at her feet. while her back is facing him. while she tries not to sob too loudly. it hurts far too much. ]

[ He hasn't had the time to think it over though, in comparison to her. Instead he's found and lost his father. Poisoned and driven Morgana to hate. He's done a Lot of bad things lately, but he also gives Less Fucks about it too. Maybe, on some level, this (happiness, security, hope--) isn't something he really deserves.

It's why he freezes at first while she pushes at the button for the elevator.

Is he supposed to run after her?

Should he? He definitely feels guilty even if the two worlds were separate. He hadn't remembered anything here.

It's why even though he does step over to her, it's not quick enough, the door to the elevator is already sliding open when his hand reaches for her wrist.

The only word he says though is "Sorry". ]
