[ open ] you wake up, this is not a dream
Who:
sortileges & you!
When: IC: 08/16 - 08/17 / OOC: 08/02 - 08/03
Where: Multiple places (ViViD, in town etc)
What: The Worst Time to come back from a canon update... aka event stuff + return stuff
Rating/Warning: None, will change if anything comes up!
( ViViD: The worst train ride home, ever | IC: 08/16 )
[ If it weren't for the fact that coming back meant that there was a mix of memories in his head trying to sort themselves into place he might have noticed the warning signs sooner. The signs for Low Energy Levels that kept flashing up were mostly ignored as he just stands in the middle of nothing, hand against his head with his eyes shut tight because it's been a long while, so much has happened and it's weird to figure out that yes, everything is real.
Even this place where he had to get used to technology and a new way of life. His hair is shorter, he's older (though only a little more in age, but in wisdom and life much much more) as too much has happened.
It's a good, long ten or so minutes before he pays attention to the setting. The command prompt and so called "safe mode" mean very little to him so he presumes it's just part of the setting for ViViD this time. At least he knows enough about coming back after one of these trips to know where he probably is, otherwise this would have been even more disorientating. ]
...Hello?
[ Well, it's ViViD but usually there's someone hanging around. Instead it just... feels silent. Like there's nothing else there.
That is, of course, when the signs for low energy levels start going a bit crazier when he starts to walk--his throat starts to feel tight.
And he can't find the exit. ]
Of course the exit wouldn't be that easy to see here, because nothing could ever be easy.
[ Are you someone who was glitched here, or were youstupid brave enough to log in? Too bad, they aren't getting out of this unscathed apparently... ]
( 01: Energy Levels 93% | IC: 08/17 Morning )
[ He'd spent enough time staring at the change on his wrist to know that it probably shouldn't be there, but considering he didn't understand the majority of what was on the ViViD level the day before anyway he just brushes it off for now. He just assumes he should ask someone like Hiro who actually understands the technology here. Of course, that's until he's ran into the problem of Shigeru melting half the flat, his bed trying to eat him and a number of other things technology related.
Is this the real life or is it just fantasy-- it's hard to tell anymore. But. There are people he needs to see knowing that he's probably been missing for days now.
He makes sure he's dressed properly before he grabs his card and key and runs out the door. It's possible you'll catch him at the door if you've noticed he's back by now, if not, he's calling on doors or going to people's places of work or where he assumes they might be by now to check how they are.
By the time he gets there though, his wrist is probably glowing with 76% Weird. But he does force a smile and pretend like nothing has happened to some people. ]
Hello! Didn't expect to see you here. [ Nevermind????? That he came??????? to you??????? ]
( 02: Glitching 100 years into the future | IC: 08/17 Late Afternoon )
[ While the network might say he's back, if you haven't ran into him during the morning, there are some major differences now. For one thing, he doesn't really look like his younger self at all, nor is he acting quite as polite as he might normally be.
A poor alien might walk in front of him and he yells out: Are y'r eyes in the back of your head?! Watch where you're going! along with a sneer. One thing is for sure though... he seems to be enjoying himself??????
The next time though it might be you doing something that doesn't quite pass his idea of acting well, whether it's you pushing in front of him in a queue, accidentally walking in front of him, or just being there and him wanting to be a pain in the butt. Whatever you're doing might give him reason to decide to call you out on it.
What a rude old man. ]

Are you— [ she swallows and starts coughing. her breathing's gone off now, too. ] Are we—
[ all this time, she thought her biggest fear was death. apparently it was losing another person she cared about. ]
no subject
You don't have anything to doubt.
[ Though technically she does, but this is one thing he will be a coward about -- he just doesn't want to cause more pain of being open about meeting someone he loved at home too. :( ]
no subject
she doesn't move to hug him just yet, and her hands just fall to her sides, limp. ]
I didn't take it off... [ her attempts at continuing fail though, as she just starts coughing, even choking on her saliva. don't... get your shirt snotty, merlin? (she does mean the bracelet, though. she never took it off.) ]
no subject
Good. [ He gets what she means though, after how he told her not to take it off last time. After he died. ] Thank you.
no subject
he can leave all he wants, but she refuses to be left behind.
really, she'd say it now but breathing is a challenge. ]
no subject
Take your time. [ Don't suffocate yourself??? ] I'm listening.
[ More than she does anyway :( ]
no subject
but, ah. athena continues to struggle to catch her breath and calm down. she's a mess. she's even shaking now. her throat feels like it's being squeezed, and so is her chest. it's a good thing people have probably evacuated the building because things are going haywire, else they'd just find these two in the hallway making a scene.
eventually (more like five minutes later), she does stop crying. she's still sniffling every now and then, but at least she isn't being loud anymore. ]
no subject
no subject
what makes her stop crying this time around is the sound of the elevator, as if the lift inside just crashed at the ground floor. it makes her jump and look back, but she can't see very well. merlin might be able to see that there's smoke slowly coming out of the thin gaps in the doors, though. ]
no subject
He jumps with her when the elevator crashes down, and suddenly he's glad he managed to stop her go inside there. The smoke is coming out of the gaps, and quietly he murmurs something to make her bag start walking itself towards her door. It's a good idea to get her away from there, anyway. ]
C'mon.
no subject
Where? [ she obviously has an idea as to where, but. . . if she can at least stall... ]
no subject
Don't you need to put things away? [ It doesn't feel comfortable at all though, so at least she's getting her wish. In fact, he even pulls away completely now too, hands dropping to his sides as he pointedly looks at the bag. ]
I can wait outside if you want.
[ Because he might not have her abilities, but he can feel it in the air. ]
no subject
[ it's why she says nothing else after that, and instead walks past him to pick up the bags that are moving on the floor. entering her apartment ends up as a challenge though as the door refuses to open even when athena's swiped her key on the holder. she doesn't really have the strength to force it open either as she hasn't been eating these past days. it's why she tries to kick at the door instead, and then push at it with her shoulder when it doesn't work. it slides open eventually, and she goes in. ]
no subject
But he doesn't.
Instead of following her in he shifts to the side and presses his back against the door frame and wall, then sinks down there to wait until she's done. ]
no subject
You shouldn't stay there, [ is what she says to break the silence, now that she's by the door. ] It-- The door isn't working properly. [ and so are the other pieces of technology in the apartment. ]
no subject
He glances up when she comes back, and gives a small shrug. ] I already had a fight with my bed when I woke up, it's fine. Is anywhere in the city safer? I haven't left the apartments yet.
no subject
still, he's so close to the door and it might shut close at any time. just because his bed wasn't cooperative earlier doesn't mean it's okay for a door to try and crush him. ]
I guess there's the fire exit.
it only has stairs! ]
no subject
Luckily he isn't close enough for the door to crush him unless it de-attached itself. ]
Then where?
no subject
[ she nods towards the other end of the hallway where there's a door. unlike most doors in cerealia, this doesn't slide open, but instead, you push it open like a regular door. there shouldn't be any people hanging out at the fire exit either, so they can talk there or just bask in each other's silence.
it's when merlin stands up that the door to her apartment slides shut on its own. ]
no subject
Instead he stares at his hands, at the leather and cord bracelets tied there, along with the stupid energy level blue glowy tattoo thing that's stuck there from the ViViD mishap.
And stays quiet. ]
no subject
she doesn't say anything for a while, and instead just stares at the floor. she wants to ask how long it's been for him, and what happened. she wants to know what his world is like now. she wants to know if he's okay... the latter, she probably has a clue. and she isn't making him feel any better by acting the way she is now. she can't help it, though.
in the case that he doesn't say anything for about three whole minutes, she asks: ]
What happens now?
no subject
He met someone else in that time. Lost her. And really he hadn't known any of that before but it doesn't make the guilt any easier either. A lot has happened for him to feel guilty about though.
He stays quiet for another long minute before answering with: ] What do you want to happen?
no subject
Whatever you want is what I want. [ well, that's not true, but she doesn't want to be that selfish anymore. ] If. If you want to be just-- just friends, then... Okay. Or if you want me to go away, then I will. [ even if that's worse than dying. to her, anyway. she just doesn't want to chase after something that probably wasn't meant for her in the first place.
despite not wanting to be selfish, though, that's probably such a selfish thing to say. ]
no subject
It doesn't sound like it. [ He'd wanted things to just slot into place like he'd never been gone. Not... this. Whatever this is.
He doesn't know how or why she's spun herself into these thoughts either, but she isn't exactly wrong so it's probably a good thing she hasn't brought up the "why" yet. ]
I didn't want anything to change--but it already sounds like you made up your mind that it has to.
[ B l u n t ]
no subject
Then I met you.
[ and even though they've only known each other for a few months, he's changed her completely. ]
I just... want to be with you. [ and she did have him for a while. she thought her life was perfect then. dreams achieved, doubts about the past fixed, having someone she could share her soul with. but that didn't exactly last long, did it? ] When you left... I-- I just. It was worse than dying. To me, anyway. I doubt you think the same way.
[ she pauses then, bowing her head a bit as her nails dig into her skin. ]
I thought I could be with you forever.
