[It's okay even if she does... he doesn't mind! And he's even downgraded to plainclothes today so it'd be the back of a long jacket he's wearing.]

Where, huh... To be honest... [He looks around, ears twitching.] I'm not sure where to go first. Shopping around here is confusing.

I think the bigger stores carry a lot more things-- [ and she'll duck behind Elza now as the crowds increase, curling her fingers into the back of his jacket. ] B-besides clothes!

[Elza blinks at her over his shoulder as she ducks behind him, a little bemused... before he shifts to offer one of his hands back to her instead.] Allow me to escort you.

[He's half teasing and half serious-- he does fully intend to make sure she doesn't get jostled and such!] Do you think you could guide us? It seems like you might know more about this than me.

[ okay, you know, she can inch around and take his arm. ]

I'll try... my friends are better at things like this, though.

[ but sure, she'll give it a shot. ]

[Elza will very gallantly put his other hand atop hers and start to head through the people, working through them...]

Even if they are... I'm looking forward to you guiding us.

[She doesn't have to be good at it or anything!! Goodness knows she'll know more than him anyway...]

[ gungho guiding!! No, really, she's so determined. And she will eventually steer him into one of the larger stores, nodding in satisfaction when it looks vaguely like the last department store she was in. ]

[Elza laughs at her renewed determination, following after her obediently... and he kinda looks completely out of his element when they arrive to the department store.]

Here? [As they head inside, his eyes go as round as any cat's would...]

I think I'm starting to feel intimidated...

[immobileyes]

It's all right! [ and she gives him a confident smile. How the tables have turned. ] There are a lot of amazing things you can buy, and I'll stay with you.

[Ah, as he thought, that helped her hit her stride, didn't it? Elza swallows down a grin that wants to surge up and instead ducks his head slightly so as to see that confident smile of hers even better.]

You might have to teach me about some of these amazing things, if they're anything like what's in the apartment.

I think so... they have televisions, see? [ and she'll point to the screens over in one corner, off to the left. ]

Right, we have one of those back where we live...

[And he still has no idea about them. Like, he gets that they don't show real things or people actually in the box or something, but the more complicated aspects of it... no, he doesn't understand at all.]

Right... and, um, over there-- [ the vacuum cleaners. ] You use these to clean, but they're really noisy.

[lionly]

[Elza gives them a long look before glancing down to her. He tries not to look as skeptical as he feels.] Those? Really? How do you use them?

[immobileyes]

You push a button and they suck up dirt when you push them around!

[ don't ask how she first reacted to it, okay, it's embarrassing. ]

[That's amazing... all this sorcery. Witchcraft, even.]

[Elza grins and reaches over to said hair with his hand, intending to smooth his palm over it.] Was there an incident?

[ And there go those two hair tendrils again, shifting independently. Mary just... grimaces. ]

Then let's shop for better things. I don't think having something like that in the apartment would help that much anyway if three of us couldn't use it. Nothing wrong with a broom and mop, right?

All the more reason never to switch! It's not bad to stick with what you know. [Chuckling, he starts to walk again, looking this-a-way and that-a-way.]

But-- um, some of the things are helpful! Like microwaves help you heat up food a lot faster!

[lionly]

Microwaves...? [He blinks.] Faster than the oven at the apartment does?

[BUT IT'S ALREADY SO FAST]

Yes! Like, in um... three minutes!
