a: tech & auto shop (semi-open)
[ he's been feeling really tired and sickly lately, but thankfully, a bunch of aspirins and orange juice, as well as some tea has been keeping him going. a few days after things get back to normal, he sends a message to some people who expressed interest in the app he came up with, saying that they can meet up now if they're available. if he hasn't sent the address yet, then he'll tell them to come to the tech and auto shop, and even attaches a map with it. what a nice guy this tadashi hamada is.
with him in his workshop is a miniature st. bernard cybuddy. when the doors slide open upon somebody arriving, it's the first thing that will welcome the person. at least the dog just talks, and doesn't bite! ]
Hello, hello! Welcome to Tadashi's workshop!
[ the dog sniffs at the shoes of tadashi's visitor as the roboticist himself gets up from his seat, approaching the door. ]
Hey. Good to see you, [ and he offers a hand to shake if he hasn't met the person yet before gesturing to a wheelie chair nearby. ] Have a seat.
[ though if this isn't the first time he's met this person, he'll just gesture to the seat right away, telling them to take a seat while he gets his laptop. ]
b: shopping district (late morning)
Demo, I really don't have time for this right now, [ tadashi says, looking pretty exhausted. he's carrying some bags with him - groceries - which he wants to put down on a counter soon since it's getting heavier by the second. not to mention, he probably should get some rest. working while being sick isn't fun at all, so getting home is a priority.
too bad his cybuddy doesn't seem to agree with him. the dog is barking at an alleyway that probably connects to a deadend. tadashi said he has no time for it, so he isn't even checking it out. ]
But Tadashi, there's something out there! [ the dog responds loudly before barking at the alleyway again. fun… and a talking dog might be weird for some people passing by. they probably haven't met the demo the dog before, or heard of tadashi's incoming line of cybuddies yet. ]
c: residential district + wildcard (post-baseball plot)
[ the day after his excursion with demo, he decides not to bring the dog out shopping again any time soon. having to put him in sleep mode wasn't fun, since he's supposed to have configured demo to work properly. he didn't see any signs of any glitching either, when he checked on his cybuddy's software after getting home… (cybuddies are officially troublesome.)
now, he's on his way to work again, though he's running a bit late. it's just a few hours into the afternoon since he woke up at lunchtime not feeling rejuvenated at all. his limbs are also sore from all the baseball he played the day before. he probably looks sick to someone who can sees him and the cybuddy walking around, so feel free to tell him to go back home and get some rest.
during the evening, he can be found walking back to his apartment looking like he needs a lot of sleep, too. he's sent his cybuddy to go home ahead of him, so he's just alone. though when he receives a text, he takes a seat on a nearby bench by one of the apartments before answering… and ultimately passing out.
feel free to draw on his face, or be a good person and wake him up. ]

[ with a smile, he turns back and gets his laptop to set it up for work. ]
This isn't a bad time. I'm not doing anything much right now. I'm actually just here to do this, then I'm heading out to do groceries.

[He pulled out his CereVice out and handed it over.]
So is it easy to make this sort of app? Or does the code take a while to learn?
[He's been busy enough catching up to how daily life works here that he's only started to touch on how such things work.]
no subject
[ tadashi takes william's cerevice and connects it to his laptop, and quickly transfers a file. it only lasts ten seconds max, and he disconnects the device just as quickly. ]
Here you go. Just check your contacts app, and there should be a tab there that says "alarm".
[ no, in fact, tadashi will just go demonstrate it to william now. ]
You toggle this button on or off if you want to be notified each time somebody leaves or arrives, or you can type in names individually. But the filter only works for arrivals.
no subject
[In a good way mostly. It was exciting to see the ways in which ideas which were just seeds in his homeland had blossomed to something almost magical in their complexity and power.]
I understand. Is there a limit to names you can enter? And what if they have multiple names? Or titles?
no subject
As for the app, you can enter fifty names at a time. Though, of course, a name disappears if a person does arrive, giving you more space.
What the CereVice does the moment somebody arrives is registers a person's real full name. You don't have to enter their full name on the filter. Say you want to enter "Leonardo da Vinci" on the filter, you can just type "da Vinci" or "Leonardo", and it will still work.
But if there's another Leonardo or "da Vinci" who comes in here, then you'll get alerted of their arrival, too.
no subject
Ah, well I should not need fifty. As long as I can keep track of certain idiots should they arrive, that is all that matters.
[At least he can brace himself for the inevitable demons randomly appearing in his room without permission.]
...do you have any other apps besides this one?
no subject
[ he smiles at william and nods at demo's direction. ]
I'm focusing my work on creating a line of CYbuddies that can talk and conduct first aid. Considering how many people get hurt here due to the glitches, I think something like this could help a lot of people.
no subject
[While he had no interest in procuring a CYbuddy for himself, William couldn't help but be fascinated by them. The movement was quite sophisticated, different from the clockwork devices back hiome.]
Is it gong to look more like a dog or something else?

[Though you could probably just make a giant robot cat the size of the table. Or something. He didn't quite know how this worked yet.]
no subject
Demo's got a leash inside him that activates when he sees someone who needs help in walking. He basically has a cane function.
[ helpful! ]
no subject
Though the leash stores inside of it?
[Then he shook his head.]
Forgive me for asking so many questions. I just find the technology here rather exciting, so I am trying to learn as much as I can. Still it's rather rude of me to take up your time.
no subject
See?
[ and once that's done, he presses the button again, and the leash quickly goes back inside, automatically. much like how a meter tape functions when you're done using it! ]
And don't worry about it. I come from a place whose tech is similar to this place. Cerealia's is much more advanced, though, but the transition from my world to this one isn't that difficult when it comes to the technology.
If you need any help with the tech here, just contact me. I'll be sure to help you out.
Also? You're not being rude at all. It's all cool, really.

I suppose it must be easy to compact something like that. Though I would have thought it would interfere with the gears in it.
[Then again, they'd probably moved past gears here, right?]
Oh, you're very luck then. Even something like the CereVice is a miracle to me. Back home, well the telephone is pretty cumbersome and only useful if you need the police or fireman.
[Not like here where even complete losers could reach you without receiving your number. But that was a different issue.]
Really? I would appreciate that very much. Between Kevin and I, we're able to figure most things out, but once in a while it gets a little touch and go. The blender was... an intense experience for him.
no subject
The guy you mentioned over the CereVice?
no subject
[He rubbed the back of his neck, now sheepish.]
That matter is fortunately resolved and we are doing fine. Back to the status quo, as much as there can be one.

[He smiled though, relieved it was all over. He still had too much apologizing to do, even if Kevin had forgiven him.]
But, I appreciate that you heard me out that day.
no subject
Has he been feeling tired lately? Like, around the time after new people have arrived?
no subject
[He tapped his chin.]
Some people had the same symptoms as him, but some of them seem to have recovered, haven't they? It is very strange. Even more so because Kevin shouldn't be capable of falling ill like that.
no subject
I keep scanning myself to see what's up, but I'm not coming down with anything. [ a beat. ] Definitely another glitch.
no subject
[When Kevin had first succumbed to it, the house had become a disaster zone. While things were now much better, it was still a bit worrying.]
You do not believe it to be permanent, do you?
no subject
[ as for william's concern, tadashi shakes his head. ]
It's probably a glitch... though I still need to figure out what the pattern is, since it isn't affecting everyone.
no subject
[He sighed in thought for a moment.]
I suppose the best thing to do would be to start taking a census every time an event like this happens. Eventually a pattern ought to make itself visible.
no subject
I might have to start doing that from now on.
