We Built This City

Who: EVERYONE, literally everyone
When: THE ENTIRE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER. This can take place any time from IC 2/28 to 3/16.
Where: ALL OF THE COLONY
What: The log to go along with the reconstruction player plot! Everyone is still welcome to join in, even if they had no prior knowledge of this.
Rating/Warning: shouldn't be anything to warn for! please poke me if this changes

[Not too long ago, a monstrous tsunami toppled the colony of Cerealia and left the city in ruins. Today…. the city is still in ruins. Watch your step! Hopefully you weren’t headed anywhere important today because--]

You there! Where do you think you’re going?!

[-- you’re about to be dragged into something much bigger than getting a sandwich or your CyBuddy’s hair appointment.

You’ve been spotted by Natalia and you are about to get an earful.]

Once Natalia gives the spiel to whatever poor bystander was walking about, they’re given a hardhat along with their instructions. Then they’re set off to work and they have quite the range of places that they can see to attend to.

I » THE RUBBLE The Residential District took the hardest toll after the tsunami. Where a block of apartments once stood, there’s now only rubble and ruin – as well as fallen pieces of the platform that had just added salt to the wound. Those in this area will be given face masks as well, to accommodate for the dust, and are tasked with moving the rubble over to a sectioned off area that will be considered a new scrapyard. Take a look at the fallen tech if you’d like, just be careful not to exhaust yourselves too much!

II » THE SCHOOL Plenty of the water has receded from the school area, but it would appear that the remains of flooding are still in effect. Try not to turn the halls into a slip and slide just yet! Even though the whiteboards beg to be written on, you’re obviously here to do work…. right? Well, there’s probably something about visiting a school that can make people itch to feel young again anyway.

III » THE APARTMENTS What apartments remained have a high chance of dealing with water damage, especially those on the bottom flowers. They’re just begging to be revamped. Maybe you even find an empty one that you like and decide to claim it for yourself! Aside from that, Natalia’s left paints upon paints for a mural on the outside of the building if you feel like doing some benevolent vandalism. Please don’t draw any genitalia.

IV » THE SKYBRIDGES High above the city, others are still put to work. The standing building in the residential district (and those that are eventually rebuilt) need a more convenient way of movement, Natalia’s decided. So here’s where people are building sky bridges to connect the apartments – but for the love of god, watch your step up there or else we’ll be dealing with cleaning you up off the cement too.

V » THE GYM The once magnificent place for GAINS and and PROTEIN and BROSEPHS honing one’s strength and maintaining the temple of one’s body unfortunately caved in during the disaster. Entirely. The place is another pile of rubble and rock, but if nothing else, exercise equipment has been ordered and people who hopefully know their way around a gym have been placed in charge of restoring the gym to its former glory. It’s like its own workout just to fix it!

VI » THE SANCTUARY Hidden away in the Residential District, there’s a new, nondescript building. Upon even stepping into the premises, you’re asked to leave your CereVice at the door. However once you’re determined unbugged by CERES, there’s much hustle and bustle in here. Wire work is being done to maintain generators, tests are being run, and then there are some people making sure that the curtains match the color scheme of the couches. At least there’s apparently a buffet provided inside for all volunteers! Chill during your break time. You’ve earned it.

[He hopes the rock felt that kick, though he really doubts it.

You know, seeing as how it's a rock.]

Perhaps there are others with the equipment to do so. It isn't as though we are lacking the technology in this place.

[He's from the 1800's, this is all still pretty amazing to him even after like 6 months here.]
dirtdevil: (a slightly shittier parallel universe)

[personal profile] dirtdevil 2015-10-13 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
[ but didn't you know that every rock and tree and creature has a life, a spirit, and a name? it can totally feel pain, man. that rock knows who's boss now. ]

Or failing that, maybe someone could blow it up. It'd make a huge mess, but the pieces would be smaller and easier to move.

[ he's not a very good strategist. ]

... Blow it up.

[Sousei doesn't sound very impressed, that's for sure, though his expression is only mildly incredulous.]

You would probably bring down the remainder of the roof at the same time, with the state this place is in.
dirtdevil: (winking at old people)

[personal profile] dirtdevil 2015-10-20 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ well, you're no fun...

no, he knows it's a stupid idea. he's still getting used to the concept of modern technology, at least by this place's definition. this does prompt him to look up at the roof, though. ]

Maybe so. Demolishing it and starting over isn't the ideal solution, I guess.

[ but it'd be cool to watch!! ]

It would certainly take longer, if nothing else.

[Not that he cares overly much if any building here is demolished, admittedly; he's got his loyalty, but it's not to this crapshoot of a place.]

I will see about finding someone who can handle this pile of rubble when we have finished cleaning this room.
dirtdevil: (a visually arresting turtleneck)

[ same here, man. they can blow up whatever the hell they want as long as it's not the building he lives in, to be honest. sometimes explosions are therapeutic. ]

That'd be great. I'm assuming most of the equipment here is trashed, but I don't know what some of these things are supposed to look like to begin with.

[Yeah... he's been here forever, but he knows the pain of being from a world that doesn't have 90% of this technology. He'll just...find someone who does get it and shove the task onto them. Delegation!!]

Very well. Our current task is to finish dealing with this mess, then.
dirtdevil: (vigorous jazz hands)

[personal profile] dirtdevil 2015-11-04 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ fortunately, dealing with messes is one of his specialties. he may not know what the hell he's cleaning up, but he leaves no mess untidied. although... ]

This seems like a low priority. I'm not really sure why I was sent here. It's not like people can't find ways to exercise without all this shit.

[There's some wry humor in something like this, he thinks.]

You would be hard pressed to find anything to do here that would be particularly relevant.

Our living spaces are likely the most important, but even then there are still livable areas. We are fixing the city because there is little better to do, and remaining idle does not suit the populace here well. They are able to live under the illusion that they are making a difference by working on things such as this.

[He's been here a long time, he's starting to get kind of cynical.]

...Admittedly, while we are stuck here, we may as well make certain our living conditions are acceptable, but there's no real meaning to be found in any of this.
dirtdevil: (dying of dysentery)

[personal profile] dirtdevil 2015-11-07 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[ that cynicism doesn't go unnoticed. not that he's exactly a bright ray of sunshine and optimism himself, but he hadn't had quite as dark an outlook.

consequently, now he has to ask: ]

How long have you been here?
deontology: (I.)

[personal profile] deontology 2015-11-11 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
It has been approximately six months now.

[The answer comes easily enough, at least; Sousei's meticulous enough to keep careful track of that sort of thing.]

As you can imagine, very little has changed in that period of time.
dirtdevil: (active listening)

massively late i'm so sorry ;;

[personal profile] dirtdevil 2015-11-25 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
[ six months... is way too fucking long. no wonder he seems cranky. and he's not the only one. ]

Six months and they still don't have their shit together at all?
deontology: (XVI.)

no worries! Take your time!

[personal profile] deontology 2015-11-25 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect, rather, that they go out of their way to cause problems for us.

[So of course they don't have their shit together.]

Nothing here is an accident.
dirtdevil: (same-sex ice dancing)

[personal profile] dirtdevil 2015-11-27 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ it only takes about two seconds of thinking about his most significant experiences in this place for him to see the truth in that statement. he did temporarily lose possession of his own soul on his first day here, after all. ]

I think you're probably right. I have to wonder if the whole "putting your world back together" thing is complete bullshit like everything else.
deontology: (VIII.)

[personal profile] deontology 2015-11-27 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It might be.

[Sousei has certainly considered it before. Either way, though... that's one of the smaller concerns as far as he's concerned.]

Either way, they've given us the opportunity to either find our way back to our worlds or recover them if that is something that legitimately must be done.

All that matters is that we make use of this opportunity, regardless of their lies.

[Cerealia has turned Sousei from a law enforcement official to a terrorist apparently.]

Have there even been any proven instances of someone going home? Because it seems like they just disappear back into the "code" without warning.

[ it kind of skeeves him out a little, actually, that they're all so easily broken down into... that. just "data." it's pretty fucked up, he thinks, and he's seen his share of fucked up things. ]
