[She rolls her eyes at him.]

Yeah and burn everything else in the garden up at the same time? Not likely. Here's how I'm gonna do it.

[Right on cue, Korra raises a hand and pulls some of the dampness out of the ground, the water pooling in her hand like a bubble.]

[overgrowth]

[ okay, that's... weird as hell. kanda's eyes narrow. the water ripples slightly in her hand, and he watches a half-bloomed lotus swirl on its surface before it fades back out. ]

Can you do that with fire?

[braavado]

[Point made, Korra directs the water into the nearby plants, though they've probably been watered enough with the colony flooding like this. She pauses to think about Kanda's question.]

I can't make shapes out of it like I can with the water, but yeah, I can control fire. [A tilt of the head as she looks at him.] Why?

[overgrowth]

I don't like the water.

[ which... doesn't explain why he asked about fire, but kanda won't yet share how badly the additional water has affected his hallucinations. ]

Can't you get rid of all of it like that?

[braavado]

[She eyes him, obviously wondering what could be bothering him this badly, but she leaves him be. For now.]

I can try. I can lift the extra water out of the ground, but there's just not a lot of places I can put it. This part of the garden.. I should be able to handle, though.

[overgrowth]

Just this part? [ he's not judging, this time; his tone of voice is merely asking for confirmation. ]

How are you doing that? Some kind of... magic?

[braavado]

It's called bending back home--something like controlling the elements?

[Cool as his expression might be, his insistence isn't going unnoticed. There must be something about it, something more than just being annoyed with the general muddiness of the area.]

It...could take some time, but I'm willing to try the rest of gardens if the water really bothers you that much.

[overgrowth]

It's fine. [ it's not really fine, but he doesn't want to make her do something like that and admit a weakness at the same time. ]

What else can you control?

[braavado]

You already know water. I can control fire, air, and earth, too.

[Though she responds, Korra doesn't seem convinced that Kanda's as "fine" as he insists he is. She'll keep a careful eye on him all the same, thanks.]

[overgrowth]

[ that's... pretty damn convenient. ]

Huh. Then why're you still stuck here?

[braavado]

[Sighing loudly.]

If breaking out was the problem, I would've tried it a long time ago. No--there's just way too much that we don't know about...anything yet.

[overgrowth]

No reliable way to get out, huh.

[ kanda crosses his arms, looking around again as if someone might be listening in. ]

So we're stuck now.

[braavado]

Yup. [Catching his glance around, Korra does the same as well, just to make sure.]

There's no exits anywhere along the wall. I checked. And there's something keeping us from flying over it, too. They really don't want us getting out of here for some reason.

[overgrowth]

Experimentation of some kind. Or something just as fucked up.

[ kanda shrugs, a sharp motion under his coat. ]

Wouldn't be the first time.

[braavado]

[That catches Korra's attention, making her turn toward him sharply.]

You mean it's not the first time you've been in a place like this?

[overgrowth]

Not the place—I meant the experimentation. [ he shrugs, like that's a normal thing to say. ]

[braavado]

[That...isn't exactly reassuring either. Korra only continues looking at him, tense and frowning.]

You're saying experimentation is... normal in your world. On people? ["Something just as fucked up" he'd said. So that must mean--] Except those people didn't agree to be experiments, did they?

[overgrowth]

Some parts of it. [ kanda holds her gaze, but only for a moment. he looks aside, out at the buildings in the distance instead. ] And on certain people.

...they said there weren't any other options.

[braavado]

[On certain people? Korra wonders how exactly these experiments had been decided.]

What happened? Must've been bad if they didn't think there was another way.

[It's probing, but not overly so. Korra knows how some people might be sensitive about things that happened in their home world.]

[overgrowth]

A war. It was pretty bullshit. Or... is, whatever. They probably would've done it even if there was a different way.

[braavado]

[A war. Korra can only sympathize, having been through a few conflicts herself.]

I'm sorry. [There's not much else she can say as consolation, honestly.] Who's...they? A company like CERES?

[overgrowth]

The church. A part of it. They say they're on the holy side, but it's bullshit. They're not interested in anything but staying in power.

[braavado]

Has anyone tried opposing them before?

[From the grim look on her face, she's expecting some kind of depressing answer.]

[overgrowth]

They have the power of the church. They execute the opposition.

[braavado]

Oh. [Yeah, that's about what she was expecting from the earlier hints he gave.]

What...about the other side? If the church is participant in the war, who's the other?
