![]() ViViD has opened up a new world that new arrivals will be pulled into while frequent players will be invited to check out. This particular setting is the new beta world that CERES is constructing in time for the Hallow's Eve celebrations and festivals. It's a world inhabited by the undead and several ghouls and monsters of typical horror lore. Inside, one will encounter werewolves, lichens, vampires, succubi, incubi, specters, mummies, and so on. They will be on the prowl and eager to attack, but players need only concern themselves with getting through and getting out. At first, players will awaken outside of a large manor supposedly owned by a wealthy noble who is rumored to be practicing strange alchemic experiments within. Many know him simply as The Count. New arrivals and those logging into ViViD will first find themselves being greeted by their guide at the start screen:

Welcome to CEREALIA's latest intro post. For your convenience, we have compiled a post detailing everyone's usual arrival experience (which is not entirely applicable this round for reasons stated above^) and a FAQ that should explain everything in more detail. Please read them thoroughly before playing. Thank you! |

Right!
[Cheerfully enough, but he does glance back, curious.] What are we running from?
[Is it hideous? Can he smash it with his trusty crowbar? Or slash it with the scythe he's actually learned how to use?
Oh. No wait. They need to find a power pellet.] Ah... that's...
no subject
Do you know what it is?
[BECAUSE HE HAS NO IDEA except that it tried to eat his face and that sucked a lot.]
no subject
[That's a start, right?] It's a ghost -- but not a real one. It's a character from a video game.
[A really old fashioned video game wakawakawakawaka.] Ah... but are there video games in your world I wonder?
no subject
I don't know what that is, [he replies as he rounds a corner and presses his back to a wall. Maybe they can hide and it'll pass right by them.]
You don't seem too bothered by this... Is it because this ghost isn't a threat?
no subject
[Komaeda will tuck himself up against the wall beside this other guy, lowering his voice and shrugging one shoulder.] Well, I'm not sure what sort of threat it would be. The game it's from, it's the creature that tries to eat the hero character.
[So they may be on the menu.] But to be honest, it's not quite as bothersome as some of the things that happen here. Besides, while I wouldn't recommend dying in ViViD, it's not real death.
no subject
But there are so many questions running through Soramaru's mind at the moment. He's just barely following what this stranger has to say, but that last part especially has his interest.]
What happens when you die? In... in ViViD? [The word feels strange on his tongue.]
no subject
Mostly you wake up in the real world as far as I can tell. So long as no glitches pop up anyway. [A pause before he adds, like it's just occurred to him that it's a valid comparison.] Like in a dream. In fact, it's a lot like a dream, except that a bunch of people can experience it together.
no subject
There's no real consequence to dying? [Then... people could just throw their hands up and give in to whatever attacks were thrown at them, couldn't they? After all, they'd just wake up.] I mean, besides the, ah, glitches. I'm not sure what those are either.
no subject
[But yeah, throwing your hands up is an option so far as Komaeda knows anyway. But he doesn't trust CERES enough to chance it himself. And he's died before in a virtual reality sim. That went badly.]
The glitches are just mistakes in their technology. It happens a lot. Uncomfortably so actually. [For the people who are supposed to be in charge of their, you know, being alive.]
no subject
[He pulls out the coupon he had tucked away, glancing at it with disinterest before holding it out to this stranger. He's not sure what a Vidia's Secret is, but he's incredibly sure that it's going to be just as silly and ridiculous as the rest of his experiences here so far.]
Please take this.
no subject
Besides you might be able to exchange it for something useful! [But probably not. At all.]
I think they sell clothing. [Just... a very particular kind.]
no subject
IT'S A PRIZE, isn't it valuable??]
You helped explain some things to me and I'm grateful for the help. If you could use it to exchange it for something else, that would be fine.
no subject
Thank you. [He'll be gracious! And take the coupon. Because it is very nice to him to offer, isn't it?
He glances down at it. Yeah that is definitely that lingerie place.] That's very nice of you.
But in that case, I really do think I probably should answer more of your questions if you have anyway.
no subject
But yay, Soramaru's looking plenty pleased now.]
Then, let's start with your name?
no subject
Komaeda! Komaeda Nagito. [He inclines his head in a polite bow. Always polite. ...almost always anyway.] It's good to meet you, even if it's pretty strange circumstances.
no subject
But oh, yes. He returns the bow because two can play at the politeness game!!! Except it's more of a lifestyle than a game.]
What was it like when you first arrived in this place, Komaeda-san?
no subject
When I first arrived... mm. Well the ViViD game at the time was a bunch of ferocious dragons that were pretty intent on eating us.
[He notes matter of factly.] Other than that, it's been a lot of the same since then. Outside the simulation, the city is really technologically advanced and run by a group that calls themselves CERES. There are a lot of robots -- mechanical beings that is.
It takes some getting used to, but for the most part, it's not an uncomfortable place to live. There's shelter and food.
no subject
Also, he doesn't know like, half of those words, but he chooses not to linger on them for too long. He'll find out soon enough once he's out of this thing.
But there is something he's curious about.]
I see... One more thing, do you believe them? About what they said when we arrived... about our homes.
[Being destroyed and everyone dead, etc.]
no subject
Hmm?
[Komaeda is quiet at that question for a long moment before he smiles, shaking his head.] Not at all. There's no way it's the entire truth, if any of it is true to begin with.
At least, that's what I think.
no subject
I think that as well. [Hell yeah, mental high five.] It's good to know I'm not alone in thinking so.
no subject
Well... not that I've figured out exactly what they want our cooperation in. It's pretty confusing.
[Playing ViViD? Dealing with spam bots and other glitches? He has no idea. This place is strange, and he's at least grateful that while he doesn't trust CERES or their motivations, living here is at least less harrowing than the last place he was.]
no subject
I'm sure we'll find out. [Sooner or later... preferably sooner, though. But, right. He's got a lot more to figure out, but nothing's too pressing at the moment. He dips his head in a polite bow.]
Thank you again for helping me and answering my questions, Komaeda-san. I don't want to take up anymore of your time, but... let's meet again soon.
