It’s been a few days in the jungle now and hopefully you haven’t managed to die just yet – after all, the fun’s just begun.

On the seventh day of trekking the wilderness, each character who has Air in their heart will suddenly find themselves pausing in the middle of the day. Suddenly they’re able to feel the patterns of the wind in the air. A chill passes through them as a breeze will kick up.

Then without warning, they’re lifted right off the ground and cast up into the sky. At least they don’t have time to be scared as they suddenly lose consciousness after floating for a few seconds.

Don’t worry. It’ll get better. When they wake up, they hear the following message in a wispy way, carried along by the breeze itself –

It is not the correct time to be sleeping. You must awaken.

There is something that needs to be done.

You need to be the one to do it.

//SCENARIOS.EXE

PHASE I

[ day one ] Anyone here with a fear of heights? Yes? Well, that’s too bad. When air characters awaken, they’ll find themselves cast right into the mountains of Tellus. It’s rocky, the path is minimal at best and non-existent at worse, and there are screeches of something dangerous and angry calling in the distance.

Caeli demonstrates his poor sense of direction once again as characters wake up and find themselves on a mountainous ledge. There is no apparent path -– except for across a dangerous ravine that dips down to the base of the mountain. There is no end in sight when one looks down, instead only pure black depths.

The cloud waits on the other side, floating patiently. Caeli gives one instruction: “Jump.”

But try not to fall in, that would be a sad start to the trip. Thankfully, the distance across isn't really too far, and Caeli might give those who can't quite make the jump a little boost -- but you still have to be brave enough to make the jump or be left behind.

PHASE II

[ day one ] Well, one way or another, you seemed to have made it. From there, it’s just one long hike where you’re stuck following a cloud that simply doesn’t feel like responding to your calls for attention. The hours drag on and the sun sets across the horizon as you are left climbing this mountain, no end in sight.

But as you climb higher and higher, the temperature drops. The hour grows later and slowly but surely, white flecks begin to fall from the sky. Cold? Hopefully you were dressed appropriately seeing as now the thick layers of snow are building and building and building – making it harder to climb as the movement now requires trudging through three to four feet of snow.

Did you want to take a break? Have fun catching hypothermia if you do!

There's definitely not much in the way of shelter, but you can try to make something out of the scant trees remaining, or create a fire. Either way, you definitely don't want to be left behind, so don't lose sight of everyone else.

PHASE III

[ day two ] Whether you felt like standing guard or were fast asleep, a piercing screech will act in the place of an alarm clock.

All too soon, a flight of winged creatures will descend upon the mountain travelers, looking none too friendly. Caeli descends to offer helpfully, “Griffins. They were once mine.” To which, the beasts merely emit another piercing screech before baring their claws and moving to attack the party. They are fearsome creatures and will not fall until they are killed, consistently trying to get back on their feet even when injured.

If no one manages to lose an eye and the griffins are subdued, characters will find upon their fallen bodies that they have areas where tufts of fur are missing, leaving a clean injection spot. There are small machine implants at the back of their necks, beeping ominously. Each is branded with a different number identification. Caeli is nowhere to be found.

PHASE IV

[ day three ] The summit of the mountain is typically considered the most beautiful place. For those who are seeking solace, the peak of this adventure is safely above the clouds and the sun is slowly rising in the distance. Acting as a moment of peace, it is truly beautiful.

For those who do not rest so easy, there is more to be found near the top of the mountain. One run-down shack can be found, plated with steel and amenities found inside such as blankets and coats to fight off the snow.

More worryingly, there is an operating table in the middle of the room. A white cloth drapes over it, stained with red and operating instruments resting on the edges, the gleaming metal darkened with old blood. The same tufts of feathers and fur that could be found on the griffons are scattered on the floor, claw marks digging deep into the metal of the walls.

Be careful not to touch anything. If a character comes into contact with some of the blood that stains the table or the instruments, they will immediately begin to feel hints of aggression. There will be an intense need to pick fights with those around them and the feeling will not disappear until they are knocked out (or killed, but who would want that?).

Welcome to your new home.

[He listens to it all, trying to take it in. William can gather that this is more akin to the card games he's run into on the computer that are not solitaire, what with the talk of monsters and all.

Though he's getting the jist of it.]

I can see what you mean. It is not different than chess or anything else like that. The materials themselves are only as useless as the person behind them. But a good strategist can make use of even the weakest tool.

[He shakes his head at the apology.]

No, it is fine. And interesting. And I suppose it is a bit like a spell book or a formula. Or I guess in my case, my notes. I like to think that they are perfectly legible to anyone, but I still fill them with short hand only I can understand.
jyajyaaan: (you've got a great idea?)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-11-13 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Vector raises an eyebrow, wondering for a moment if he should take William's words as insult or as praise. Deciding on the latter, he shrugs his shoulders, chuckling lightly.]

Yeah, it's all very tactical. Although I think that it's a bit more challenging than just getting a pawn across the board to have him upgrade into another queen.

Notes are a good comparison, I think. They can mean something completely else to you than to somebody who just borrowed them and is reading them now.

[He falls silent for a moment as his expression turns grim.]

Some people from my world, they aren't here anymore, but... They had a way summoning the monsters in their decks for real.

[personal profile] notsolomon 2015-11-14 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
...summoning? I take it you do not mean they had sigils inscribed on their cards then? Because I have a few of those, though they are useless in this place.

[No hell apparently, or at least no way to open the gate there. It was honestly one of the few things that made William suspect that CERES wasn't lying about their world being gone. Because when had those fools ever left him alone for this long?]

But I suppose it could work, somehow. And imagine it would be convenient to carry around, because you could mix them in with ordinary cards and no one would be the wiser.

[He pursed his lips thinking.]

I take it you do not have that ability? To summon monsters? Or demons?
jyajyaaan: (best with friends)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-11-15 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Sigils? No, I don't think so. [Putting a finger on his cheek, he makes a thoughtful face.] Besides the usual ones, but those are just game stuff.

[Dropping his hand, he pats the pocket on the side of his pants.]

And of course I do! It's some technology, so when I heard about it I went ahead and got myself the upgrade too! It's pretty easy when you're used to dueling!

[Giving William a look, he grins.]

Do you want to see one? I don't know how long or useful any of my summons will be here, though. But I can try!
notsolomon: (pic#9161783)

[personal profile] notsolomon 2015-11-16 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Technology? So then it's not like magic?

[His voice is almost hopeful, because finally something scientific. Or probably scientific!]

But yes, I would appreciate seeing what one looks like. It would be useful for the sake of science.

[Granted, he wondered what made the mechanism different that this guy could do it and he couldn't? A storage device like a hard drive perhaps?]
jyajyaaan: (well lookie here)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-11-17 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Noooooot really? [He laughs, looking a bit sheepish.] Although it ca surely feel like that! To be entirely honest, I don't really get how it's working either, but...

[Well, better just to show him than to try and put it into words. Activating his duel disc, he draws a card from his deck and slaps it down on it. The rest is a bit of technology and Vector using his own powers to nudge things along.]

Show yourself! Number 49: Fortune Tune!

[A small swirl of yellow light erupts in front of them and a tiny but colorful bird materializes. It's none of the monsters Vector usually keeps in his decks, but he has been working on upgrading his Shining deck recently and this one is a lot less suspicious than his usual menaces.]

[personal profile] notsolomon 2015-11-18 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Amazing. So perhaps it is like one of the things in ViViD then...

[William tilted his head as he looked at the admittedly cute bird. There were a million explanations go in his head about what it could do.]

So what does it do otherwise? When you are playing your game?
jyajyaaan: (yokare to omotte)

[personal profile] jyajyaaan 2015-11-19 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods before launching into a quick explanation.]

Well, first of it's a Number, which is a special rare type of card. As such it can't be destroyed by any monster that isn't a Number as well and effects - spells, traps, special abilities and the like - only have a very limited effect on it. In Fortune Tune's case only direct attacks can harm it.

[He holds his finger out and the bird circles them once before perching on it, looking pleased.]

It's not very strong, but since it is a Number it can basically defend and protect you from any damage that comes directly your way ever. Getting around it won't be easy. [A proud chirp earns the creature an amused look.] To top it off, its presence also allows you to continually regain your Life Points and on the odd chance that it does get taken out it won't just go to the graveyard pile and stay there like your ordinary monsters would do, but it lets you pick two of your already defeated monsters and revive them again as well as that it returns to where you summoned it from as well.

[Letting out a breath, he chuckles.]

Welp, that was a mouthful! In short, it looks useless because of it's low stats at first glance, but its special conditions and abilities make a very tactically strong monster to have by your side! [All you need to do is to keep it out of open attack mode because then you'll be eaten alive by any marginally clever opponent.]

[He's played around with ViViD just enough that not all of that goes completely over William's head, though he still has to think it out for a moment.]

So in other words it is actually a very powerful card in the hands of the right person is what you are saying then. And you are a talented enough strategist to be able to use it in that manner.

[More so than Rei portrayed himself as, though William had been getting that sense on and off for sometime since they had first become acquainted.]

Though I suppose they cannot do much outside of the game then?
