![]() You were always warned about the little things that go bump in the night, but you didn't believe them, did you? After all, ghosts don't exist, and things aren't really out to get you in the dark. As the month draws nearer to its final days, however, you're going to want to double check that belief of yours. On the eve of the 20th, continuing on, you'll feel the signs. It'll begin with a flicker, something barely noticeable. Conveniently, that day, the cinemas will start showing some creepy movies (maybe you'll have seen similar ones back home, or have you?) and you can access Ceres' TV stations- amazing show and movie line-up on their devices or TV screen. All seems to be normal, really... except for the weather that seems somewhat chilly and dismal throughout, with chances of storms every now and then. 'tis the season to be spooky, after all. It's just the weather being weird... Until you get the feeling that something is in your house... and you sure as heck didn't invite it in. How will you know? Well, you might hear it, whispering in your ear, or maybe see it as just appearing as part of that movie, or on a Holo-screen you're walking by, and disappearing as quickly as you hear or see it...

It's also clear that he is blind, because apart from holding a walking stick and extending it across the space in front of him, he has his free arm extended as he walks along the wall.
This stinks.]
no subject
It may well be permanent.
But he cannot panic. So for now, he is kneeling calmly in place, and he watches Edgeworth stumble around before finally speaking--]
Miles Edgeworth. Do you need something? [It's said as carefully as possible, honestly, but he still wonders at points if he says it all properly--especially foreign names, that are hard enough without being unable to hear his own pronunciation.]
no subject
His free hand grips the hilt of his saber this time instead of the wall.]
Yes...I wish to learn how to fight while I'm blind.
no subject
... ... ... Also he responded, but there's no way Sousei is going to be able to figure out what he said.
Except that he's holding onto his sword, and he's in a dojo. Connecting the pieces...]
I am Abe no Sousei. [jsyk.] I cannot hear you or what you are saying. [The deaf leading the blind...]
If you are here to practice, I am willing to assist.
no subject
Letting his walking stick lean against the wall and letting go of his saber hilt - since it was still in its scabbard anyway - he takes his CereVice out, recites his message, and allows it to be translated into text on his device.]
That would be appreciated.
no subject
Sousei's voice goes a little fainter as he crosses to room to pick up two practice swords.]
We will need a signal, if you should need to stop for any reason. We will also be using practice swords, so set aside your blade.

[So long as Edgeworth knows to use it and thinks to use it, they're fine. With that established, he walks closer again, taking care to make audible footsteps.]
Here. [Just going to...hold that bokuto out to Edgeworth and wait for him to grab it/find it to grab it. For better or for worse, you picked a teacher who won't go easy.]
no subject
Edgeworth doesn't need a teacher who'll go easy on him. His previous teachers never did. At this point, he tries to tune out all other background noise, preparing himself to hear Sousei's footsteps, or the whistle of something swinging to hit him.]
no subject
While Sousei is sorely missing his hearing, he can compensate in a battle like this with his eyes, if he's careful.
He pauses for a moment, waiting for Edgeworth to be properly ready, and then he does make the first move, stepping forward and swinging his practice sword in a neat, precise overhand blow.]
no subject
Plus, it's not exactly identical to the one he used to hold.
Once Edgeworth is in a guard position, he hears Sousei step forward, but he reacts too late. He tries to move to the side to avoid the blow, but is struck along the way on his arm. It stings, but he bites back a yelp and swings his own sword toward the direction of the strike.]
no subject
It's strange, to fight without sound; he wasn't quite aware of how much he depended on hearing the steps of his opponent, the shifts in clothing and the sound of the sword cutting through the air--
But he still has his sight, and he's still able to avoid that sword, swaying to one side. He's...at least got the presence of mind to step to one side instead of just shifting out of the way, allowing Edgeworth the sound so he can know which direction Sousei moved.
No need to be particularly cruel with this training
yet.And he waits a brief moment before swinging his sword again, a sideways cut at the level of Edgeworth's ribs.]
no subject
His sword slicing through air and the sound of Sousei evading his attack register in his mind as he tries to form a picture in his head of their positions.
The swish of the sword...was that it? Edgeworth twists and brings his own sword down to block Sousei's strike.]
no subject
It's a good block, though. It'd be easy for Sousei to disengage and shift to strike around that sword, but that's not the point of this exercise. Edgeworth is adapting quickly, and that is what truly matters.
Instead, Sousei lingers there for a brief moment, before pulling back and taking a few steps back. It won't be a fight if Edgeworth can't engage as well, and while he's learning, Sousei'll give him the opportunity to try.]
no subject
Nothing. As Sousei lingers, Edgeworth registers nothing. He doesn't hear anything, and he grits his teeth as he strains to concentrate. Instantly he is rewarded by the sound of Sousei's steps...judging from how they sound, he is walking...backward?
Nothing else? For a moment Edgeworth just stands there, sword in hand. The picture in his mind has changed but he's not sure how. So he raises his sword and follows the sound he had heard before...unfortunately, his direction is off by a few. Instead of charging toward Sousei directly, Edgeworth is veering off to the left, having misjudged the sound of the footsteps.]
no subject
So Sousei watches Edgeworth swing to the left, and then he abruptly steps forward. There's hardly a moment between his step and his swing--aimed straight for Edgeworth's arm again.
He may as well keep on using the same strike, at least until Edgeworth learns to defend against that sort of thing blind.]
no subject
no subject
Not that Sousei's going to allow him to recover, either, not without some extraordinary effort.
He presses his advantage, pushing with all of his strength against that awkward block.]
no subject
Finally, when he can't take it anymore, Edgeworth quickly attempts to break away and move backward, but he is a little unsteady on his feet.]
no subject
Sorry, Edgeworth.... this is the teacher you chose...]
no subject
Hearing the steps, Edgeworth has a moment in which he nearly panics, avoiding the source of the steps by backing away. Unfortunately, he miscalculates his evasion of the strike, and it grazes his side. He grits his teeth more out of frustration than in pain. Ugh...he thought he was doing well.]
no subject
He finds it admirable, honestly.
Not that he's going to let up. Just know that he respects you, Edgeworth......even as he leaves the bruises.
Because then it's easy for him to take a quick step to one side, swinging his sword around as well, bringing it neatly to swing at the other side--the direction Edgeworth is retreating in. Heads up...]
no subject
Still, this was a challenge, a challenge he was determined to conquer. If he could endure the training that got him to where he was now...then...
Ignoring the possible bruises that he would have the following day, he hears the step - and the telltale swish of Sousei's sword. With a gasp of surprise, he quickly changes direction, and raises his own sword to hopefully block the other's weapon.]
no subject
To himself, Sousei nods approvingly. He doesn't like to waste his time with students who show no promise--but between his determination and actual skill, Edgeworth does not seem to be one of those students.
So for now, he locks swords with him. What now, Edgeworth--you did block it, after all.]
no subject
This time, instead of disengaging, he is the one pushing, to get Sousei to let go or move away. But actually, he is also doing this to gauge how Sousei would react, now that the tables have been turned. This would be a good time to say something - not a taunt, but perhaps some show of wit - but Edgeworth remembers that Sousei is deaf. Plus, he'd be wasting breath best spent on exerting his energy throughout the sparring session.]
