![]() You were always warned about the little things that go bump in the night, but you didn't believe them, did you? After all, ghosts don't exist, and things aren't really out to get you in the dark. As the month draws nearer to its final days, however, you're going to want to double check that belief of yours. On the eve of the 20th, continuing on, you'll feel the signs. It'll begin with a flicker, something barely noticeable. Conveniently, that day, the cinemas will start showing some creepy movies (maybe you'll have seen similar ones back home, or have you?) and you can access Ceres' TV stations- amazing show and movie line-up on their devices or TV screen. All seems to be normal, really... except for the weather that seems somewhat chilly and dismal throughout, with chances of storms every now and then. 'tis the season to be spooky, after all. It's just the weather being weird... Until you get the feeling that something is in your house... and you sure as heck didn't invite it in. How will you know? Well, you might hear it, whispering in your ear, or maybe see it as just appearing as part of that movie, or on a Holo-screen you're walking by, and disappearing as quickly as you hear or see it...

If it's connected, then we're in danger.
[ There's no question of that in his mind at all. Any place connected to that amusement park is definitely dangerous. ]
But I don't, no.
no subject
... In that case, I'll hope that they're not. I met one other man who said he'd been to a place called "Death City" before arriving here - he didn't seem to think the two worlds were connected.
no subject
What about them? Do they have people that keep showing up here?
no subject
[ he seemed friendly enough, if a bit stiff. ]
They'd been fighting a war there, as well, according to him. They won it. After that, it seems he came here instead of being returned home.
no subject
[ Ciel sounds very assured of that, and he certainly will track down Edgeworth, but to continue their conversation, Ciel shakes his head. ]
That's different from what we experienced, at least.
no subject
[ he has to at least ask. However, he's quick to follow it up with: ] It's purely for the sake of understanding this world, but if it was something you'd rather not discuss, that's fine. We all have our demons.
no subject
No, I'll tell you the basics. I need to be able to speak about it if they are related.
[ But they're not... Ciel is just a paranoid moron... ]
It was a game of murder.
[ Ciel states that first, letting that heavy statement linger for a moment before he continues. ]
There were forty-two of us trapped in an amusement park. Seven were chosen to murder the rest, and every night, someone would die, and every day, we would hold a mockery of a trial to "convict" the guilty, though there was no evidence save for a system where one person a night could pick a person to find out if they were in the group or not. If we refused to vote, this group's numbers would grow, but if we voted incorrectly, it did no matter. Whoever had the most votes was hanged, innocent or guilty.
[ Of course, Ciel leaves out the part that he was one of the murderers, but it's not quite out of feeling ashamed or wanting to deceive Zara, not exactly. Explaining the circumstances of why... That was still too painful. So he leaves that vague. ]
By the end, there were scarcely more than ten left alive.
no subject
The mention of "a game of murder" draws his distaste right from the beginning, and the explanation only intensifies it. The games Mejojo and Auger played were sickening enough - and that sounded uncomfortably close to something they might do if they knew they would get away with it. Zara might be used to atrocities, but he's not jaded towards them yet. Especially when they decided to involve children - children who had already suffered plenty. As he listens, his eyes narrow. ]
That's perverse. [ there's some venom in his words. ] You survived, though. What did the "winners" get?
no subject
After all, they were working to kill everyone for the sake of "winning," because if they won, then everyone would be fine. That's what they were led to believe, and they had no choice but to believe it. There was an additional prize, had they been successful, certainly, and some of his comrades had wishes much more important than his. But his... Ultimately, it would have been for his own death, really. To know who murdered his parents, he was also handing his soul over to the demon that would consume him.
That was why he'd hesitated, really. He had hesitated, and in punishment, he had to murder Oz like how he (or, no, it wasn't him, he has to remember) had been murdered. He didn't want to die. But for that selfish wish, he had to continue piling bodies at his feet. ]
Nothing. There was never anything to win in the first place.

[ ciel's bitter expression tells him enough. He won't ask more than that - he doesn't need to make the boy relive whatever horrors he went through in that time. He shakes his head in disapproval, sighing silently. ]
Then I truly hope this place is different.
[ and that afterwards, he can just go home. The more he hears about people being repetitively spirited away, the more he fears it will happen to him once he thinks he's won. ]
no subject
As do I. But now you see why I would be concerned if people I know from that place continue to show up.
[ Which may sound odd if you think about it too hard, since the implication of Ciel's story is that only ten people survived, but... That wasn't quite it. It's more that he's not sure how to explain that, at least. ]
no subject
Certainly... Although I would assume the majority were coerced into it and wouldn't behave that way in a normal situation.
[ unless the fear is that they'd show up and assume the rules here were the same - that they had to kill to escape. That could be a serious problem. ]
no subject
[ With that choice of words, it might sound like Ciel pities or empathizes with them, and yet, his tone is harsh and judgmental. It seems like he won't spare any mercy for these killers at all. ]
We killed most of them, so we learned a little of what was happening. They had been made mad, to think the people they were killing were simply "waking up," like it was a dream. They were delusional until the very end.
no subject
Brainwashing? [ the story just gets worse. ] Tell me you found those responsible for all of this.
no subject
A crocodile, apparently.
[ Ciel shakes his head, since he knows that sounds ridiculous, at least, so after a moment, he elaborates. ]
No idea, obviously. They only ever spoke through these stupid drawings of animals.
no subject
I see... That's clever of them.
[ he sighs. ]
... How frustrating.
no subject
[ He says that coldly and resolutely, then shrugs, as if it doesn't bother him, but... It's not exactly hard to guess that it does. Even if Ciel's nonchalance is nearly perfect, it would be difficult to imagine it not affecting him deeply. He ends up sighing heavily. ]
I just want to prevent it from being the future.
no subject
[ there's no way that getting kidnapped to other worlds was a frequent occurence. He refuses to believe it. Someone would have survived it and told others by now. ]
no subject
...That's what I think too. It should be impossible in the first place, so I don't understand how it's possible to happen twice.
no subject
We'll find answers, Earl Phantomhive. None of us want to spend more time wasting away here than we have to - especially if there are ulterior motives at work.
no subject
Of course. I just hate not being able to do anything, really.
no subject
[ something he sounds both irritated and incredibly depressed about. he sure felt like he couldn't do anything for Fiona and the Gallands back home, but now he can do even less!! just kill him. ]
no subject
[ Not that Ciel sounds very hopeful about it? But in a few days he'll also yell at the CEO so good job nerd... ]
