![]() You were always warned about the little things that go bump in the night, but you didn't believe them, did you? After all, ghosts don't exist, and things aren't really out to get you in the dark. As the month draws nearer to its final days, however, you're going to want to double check that belief of yours. On the eve of the 20th, continuing on, you'll feel the signs. It'll begin with a flicker, something barely noticeable. Conveniently, that day, the cinemas will start showing some creepy movies (maybe you'll have seen similar ones back home, or have you?) and you can access Ceres' TV stations- amazing show and movie line-up on their devices or TV screen. All seems to be normal, really... except for the weather that seems somewhat chilly and dismal throughout, with chances of storms every now and then. 'tis the season to be spooky, after all. It's just the weather being weird... Until you get the feeling that something is in your house... and you sure as heck didn't invite it in. How will you know? Well, you might hear it, whispering in your ear, or maybe see it as just appearing as part of that movie, or on a Holo-screen you're walking by, and disappearing as quickly as you hear or see it...

He huffs a laugh before he finds his footing and he can feel the pain, he can feel the blood - but he still manages a crooked grin for Sousei.]
This? It's nothing.
[Then he's turning to face the direction of the exit that Sousei pointed out earlier, start off toward it. His first steps are shaky, but he wills his body to keep pushing forward.
For once, it's not entirely a boast. Yes, he feels the pain and it's more injured than he's let himself get in this place before. But it's not the first time that he's been stabbed or otherwise injured by something when he still had other business to take care of. Compared to the blinding pain of having the Orochi cells rage within his own body or dealing with scientists openly cut into his skin to figure out how he ticks, this is nothing.
He grabs Sousei's arm to pull him into a running pace again.
Don't slow down on account of him. He's used to pushing himself farther than he's ever meant to go. Sometimes he really is a monster.]

But he doesn't have the breath to scoff at it. Instead, he follows, a fresh wave of energy offered by the adrenaline. They're close now, and it's good that Tenka can keep going, because they're still barely escaping that ghost--and then they make it to the entrance, and Sousei skids to a stop to yank the door open, shoving Tenka through and closing it behind him--and wrinkling his nose slightly at the sound of a chainsaw digging into the door from the other side.
Okay.
Okay, they're...probably okay now.]

Once Tenka's through, he's slowing to a stop and gasping for air, grasping at the nearest wall for balance. If nothing else, he's dizzy. Between the lack of oxygen and the loss of blood, even he isn't completely together. He blinks a few times to try to maintain his eyesight and then he closes them entirely.
But the second that his breathing's a bit more even, he's straightening his posture and ignoring the pain that comes with it. For a moment, he stares at his hand, where the bracelet still adorns his wrist. The Orochi cells are killing them but they also were part of why he could keep going for that long.
Then he turns to Sousei and musters up a grin, as if they didn't barely escape death.]
Let's go home.
no subject
[It's said rather sharply, though it's definitely more concern than actual irritation. Is he angry Tenka shoved him out of the way? No, not really. He would have done the same in Tenka's position. He's a little angry he couldn't have spared Tenka that and avoided it himself, but--regardless, watching Tenka straighten is painful, and in response he grabs one of Tenka's arms, dragging it over his shoulder.]
I am here so you can lean on me when necessary. [...so lean on him.]
no subject
I'm not falling over or anything, jeeze!
[Because clearly that's an indicator of when he'll need help and Sousei completely jumped the gun here.
... yet even then, Tenka doesn't pull away. This is what partners should be able to do, right? So even as Tenka is grumbling in response, he doesn't fight it off. Fine. He'll admit that trying to maintain himself the entire way back home would probably be annoying. Maybe this way he can spare himself a bit more pain - and it's not like Sousei would accept it if he said otherwise.]
no subject
But if you thought he wasn't going to respond to that at all, that's a very wrong though. Because as soon as he's gotten his bearings again, his response comes easily.]
It should not take that for you to lean on me. [...honestly.]
no subject
Tenka's not used to asking for help at all - not even when he's tripping and stumbling his way through the dark. Shirasu was always there and Tenka would only ask for his assistance on matters that he simply couldn't handle at all. So even though it's painful to walk, he's always supported himself with the idea that he knew that he could still make it home if he had to.
But if it's his partner then he supposes this is fine too. Still, he can't make it too obvious without a bit of teasing-]
You're too much, Sousei-kun.
[With that, he'll relax and even though he is trying to support himself still, he'll give some of his weight over to Sousei. Okay.
He'll lean on you.]
no subject
For now, it's enough to help him back home in silence.
What a disaster this has been. He'll have to head out and check on everyone else later, perhaps--but for now, as soon as they're inside, he's helping Tenka sit by the table, and then he's striding towards where he (prudently) already has medical supplies stashed.]
no subject
Though as Tenka's seated at the table, he considers his options. His wound is on his back. If it were anywhere else, Tenka wouldn't care and would've accepted Sousei's help - just as they'd agreed to on their way home. That would have been fine.
But already his grip on his cloak tightens as he pulls it closer to his body as opposed to removing the garment.
If he accepts Sousei's help, then he'd have to show him his scar. While Tenka's never been shy, having his partner see the physical manifestation of his years of pain is something that he'd rather not deal with. The man who attacked his parents left this mark on him and at this point, it's personal.
Sousei's not going to like that answer though.
For now, he almost puts it off - sitting at the table, staring at its surface intently.]
no subject
Why is he staring at the table...?
They get into scrapes all the time, or did--nobody's particularly upset over there being an injury to take care of. So....?]
no subject
So there's a medical kit in front of him and Tenka merely nods then, a grin curling up on his lips. This isn't going to go over well. He can tell. But he takes the medical kit in his hands and then turns to face Sousei.]
Thanks.
I've got it from here.
no subject
Tenka's right about this not going over well, but Sousei doesn't explode. He pauses, taking a long moment to absorb that. It...isn't pleasant to think that Tenka doesn't want him to look at his injury for him (it's not the ten years apart, is it...?) but... more importantly--]
You injured your back.
[how the hell are you going to...reach that.....]
no subject
[True, he always had his personal doctor to patch up all his wounds - including the ones that ended up on his back. So he's not entirely sure how he's going to be able to take care of it himself when he can barely even turn but-]
I'll figure something out.
[He knows it sounds like him being stubborn again - and maybe it is. But it's a different kind of stubborn entirely.]
no subject
...Why?
[why don't you want him to help? Why are you being so stubborn as you bleed all over the place?]
no subject
"It's personal" would imply that he doesn't trust Sousei.
"It's not personal" would raise questions as to why he's so concerned over it anyway.
. . . . . really, he's stuck between a rock and a hard place so what comes out of his mouth instead is-]
Leave it alone, Sousei.
no subject
... [What should he say to that? He doesn't want to sit here and argue it when Tenka is bleeding, but he also doubts Tenka's ability to bandage up his own back properly--especially to take care of the injury itself.]
You do not want me to assist with your injury, then.
[Is that...really what you're saying here?]
no subject
[Maybe that'll make it better? Maybe if he points out that this one - this injury in particular - is different and otherwise he would trust Sousei with anything else that wasn't on his back. If it were as something as simple as taking care of any injury, then there wouldn't be an issues.
But for this in particular, he's not ready to share. Perhaps it's worse since it's Sousei since he'd been the one to come upon the scene. It would only be an unpleasant reminder for Sousei as well, to remember the day that was so traumatizing that Soramaru blocked it entirely out of his memory.
This is for the best.]
no subject
... Sousei's expression tightens. He's been respecting Tenka's wishes since they arrived. He respected Tenka's wishes in regards to Shirasu, and their living situation, and so many other small things.
But he can't here, when it's Tenka's well-being on the line.]
...Let me tend to it. You will not be able to reach it from there. [and...he's assuming that if he's not letting Sousei help, he's not letting anyone, though maybe that's an erroneous assumption.
...Slightly more hesitantly--] ...Unless there is someone else you will allow to tend to it.
[Because Tenka's well-being is still more important than how...that would feel.]
no subject
No?
[What a weird thing to say, Sousei. He's pretty obviously bewildered at that train of thought - who else would he trust more than his partner?]
Don't be dumb. [There's no one else.]
It's something I need to take care of myself.
no subject
[YOU'RE GOING TO HURT YOURSELF FURTHER. Or at least not take care of it properly, and they were drilled on the importance of taking care of your injuries properly, and come on, Tenka.]
I will help.
[so...just let him.]
no subject
I can at least dress it until morning. Then I'll go to the hospital and get it looked at properly - happy?
[A doctor. He'll get a proper doctor to look at it. A doctor who doesn't know what his scar means and is completely removed from the situation.]
no subject
Going to such lengths just to keep Sousei from helping...?]
... No. [QUITE FRANKLY, HE'S NOT.] What are you hiding from me?
no subject
Something better left alone.
[It's about as firm as Tenka can get, surprisingly. He can't try to dodge the situation with a joke like he normally would with Soramaru. He can't just leave the table without any answers whatsoever - it'd be too close to abandoning and running from the conversation. Tenka doesn't like running.
But he also doesn't like sharing more than he's ready to. Sousei knows exactly what he's been through but perhaps that's what makes it that much harder to show the physical result of Tenka's lifetime of pain.]
no subject
And now here Tenka was, hiding something yet again. It was as if they hadn't made any progress at all--except it's all the more frustrating because they have.
His tone is terse, and he focuses on what he knows to be true.]
... Regardless, I will not allow it to compromise your health. [Because...that's more important than anything. He wants to help Tenka, and support him, just as sensei had asked him to--but it's damn hard when he's being like this.]
no subject
[They'd just talked about this, didn't they? Tenka has no interest in dying and will be struggling for his life no matter what.
He knows he's being stubborn. He's fully aware that it's entirely a bad idea to keep secrets from his partner. But Tenka had been hoping that if there's anything he would take to the grave, it's this. He's not the type to boast over his scars and in this case, it's one that he'd rather the world entirely forgot. Particularly since it's a remnant of the one day where Tenka's entire life was ruined.
Still, he can't help but get snappy. Tenka understands they're partners but Sousei's always trusted him to act on his own when it was important. To Tenka, this is important.]
Why can't you just leave this one thing alone? I tell you everything else.
[It's not often that Tenka is sharp but instead of raising his voice and waking the kids, this is his alternative.]
