You Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance

You were always warned about the little things that go bump in the night, but you didn't believe them, did you? After all, ghosts don't exist, and things aren't really out to get you in the dark. As the month draws nearer to its final days, however, you're going to want to double check that belief of yours.

On the eve of the 20th, continuing on, you'll feel the signs. It'll begin with a flicker, something barely noticeable. Conveniently, that day, the cinemas will start showing some creepy movies (maybe you'll have seen similar ones back home, or have you?) and you can access Ceres' TV stations- amazing show and movie line-up on their devices or TV screen. All seems to be normal, really... except for the weather that seems somewhat chilly and dismal throughout, with chances of storms every now and then. 'tis the season to be spooky, after all. It's just the weather being weird...

Until you get the feeling that something is in your house... and you sure as heck didn't invite it in.

How will you know? Well, you might hear it, whispering in your ear, or maybe see it as just appearing as part of that movie, or on a Holo-screen you're walking by, and disappearing as quickly as you hear or see it...

"You'd better not shout, you'd better not cry, you'd better not pout NoT TeLliNg YoU whY Gonna taste you, spit you out, smell you soon YoU STINKy LOuT. Hope you like the company. We've been dying to meet you."

//SCENARIOS.EXE
PHASE I
[ xx:xx ] Your first day will go normally enough, even if some things at work or school will behave a little oddly. Nothing too major, but enough to give you a sense of unease through the day.

The real fun begins when the evening is in full swing, because things will feel even worse than before. Objects will disappear and reappear in the wrong places, your HoloGM at home or the workplace will decide to suddenly flicker into strange shapes and frightening objects before turning to normal, and who threw that lamp??

If you were planning on spending an evening of peace, well. We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but... on the positive side, there's a fun stream of spooky shows to watch?! Just ignore the possibility of someone joining you... or not. Ignoring a guest isn't nice, you know. Will you run into the arms of a lover or friend, or run and hide? The choice is yours.
PHASE II
[ xx:xx ] You're going to really not like what comes next, deep into the hours past 3 a.m. Hope you're not a cranky sleeper, because you may want to be up for this. Your Cerevice will blink a strange message that will merely read "W A R N I N G" and flicker to normal before you feel that your privacy has been completely compromised.

Or at least haunted.

Because the next thing you know? Ghosts. Lots of them. And they're not going to wait before giving you chase and letting your senses take the hit. Of course, you might just get lucky and not be visited by any of the ghosts at all- but then again, things will just continue to make you jumpy and spook you out throughout the time the others suffer. Hope you weren't counting on a lot of sleep. And as for those of you who will eventually become victims of your unfriendly visitors, well... hope your friends are around to help. Your CereVice certainly will.
PHASE III
[ xx:xx ] What a rotten week. If you haven't been visited by your ghosts of eternal damage, you're going to have a nasty week at work with things going wrong and everything just points at you. If you have been hit by a ghost, you're going to be suffering the after-effects throughout. The good news is, your CereVices will do their best to compensate for what you did lose. You can voice activate them or touch activate them, or have them give you textual directions. Your healer friends however, can come in very handy and attempt to fix you up- and may even succeed! Though some effects may be stronger than the rest. Even ViViD will have some intriguing new stages that may put your recent condition into focus and have you work through them to gain a better boost.

Just don't be surprised if it isn't entirely effective, but hey, remember when we said having friends is a good thing? Hope you've been making some, because they might just be the only chance you have against suffering this alone.
PHASE IV
[ xx:xx ] As the week draws to a close, the effects of the hauntings will start to wear off, and surprise and joy, things will seem normal again. People won't be experiencing any irritations and jumpy situations at home anymore, and all will be well.

Then night will fall and they'll come again.

For those of you who were lucky enough to escape, the only trouble you'll have is the screams of horror and the frightening situations your friends are in (did we mention you had to make friends?)- you may have to get out of bed to help, hunt around- and probably put your life on the line.

Because those that did get affected, will be dragged into a place of horror and fright, of shivers and quivers- Vidia's Secret: Premium Lingerie to suit all tastes. A beast of horrifying proportions awaits there, ready to tear your friends from limb to limb, so we do hope the captives are prepared to fight, or die trying.
PURGATORY
[ why:o'clock ] You died while fighting against the final boss. Sucks, but it happens. That's why you're here, after all. There isn't much, but make yourselves at home. The surroundings will look pleasant enough, little recovery huts with some cute digital medics of all types waiting in there to help you out. After about 12 hours in Ceres time, the characters will step out of ViViD and be given gift bags with "You Tried" stars on them, each containing a sexy set of lingerie (and animal onesies for anyone below 16) and pampering materials like bath bombs, chocolates, candles and shampoos to take the trauma off the last few days. For those that survived, they'll be getting the same, as well as "Well Done!" stars on their bags (and an extra massage coupon)- and all parties will recieve a little note contained within reading: "We're sorry, have some gifts. You can blame one of your own for being too curious, though. Remember to read the instructions next time, and don't go on witch hunts!"

For those exploring Purgatory, just relax and enjoy the view. Also, your characters might have woken up wearing the lingerie or onesies during their "recovery treatment"... we're sorry they're the only clothes they'll get until they leave. :(
[ Remember to apply proper warnings on threads with trigger-y or inappropriate material and do let a mod know if your thread careens off into maiming or canoodling so we can lock the log. ]

FRIENDSHIP BARNACLE...i can't believe you aki

[personal profile] unevoke 2015-01-17 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Bing bing bing, we have a winner!!! Not that Shinjiro would be willing to admit it, but at least it's a topic that holds some interest to him, unlike the crappy burgers at McCeres. (How people find those palatable, he'll never know.]

It takes practice. The more you do it, the better you get. [Unless your name is Fuuka Yamagishi.] If you've never cooked before, start with the basics and don't start playing around on your own, you'll just mess stuff up.

[Can you hear the Feelings he has about cooking in his voice?

Also don't look now, that tree behind them is waving its branches menacingly...]
harepiece: (hoovers up all the food)

it will only continue to morph...

[personal profile] harepiece 2015-01-17 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Oz showed up and was immediately told by like 5 people that the burgers might kill you, so he doesn't understand the draw either, honestly... WHAT A STRUGGLE.

But this topic seems to be a good one to settle on, since he can indeed detect the Feelings about cooking in his voice!! He's heard it before... all these nerd chefs, can't handle.]

I have a friend here that's really good at these things, so I've been asking him for help! [And causing accidental "I'M NOT NEEDEEED" crises, but hey, cooking skills must be imparted eventually...]

What kind of food is your favorite to cook? Or do you like baking, too? [He's recently learned there is apparently a great difference between the two?!

He's also so involved in this chat that he 100% ignores the ominous tree branches SORRY TREES.]

i look forward to it

[personal profile] unevoke 2015-01-18 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't have a favorite. It's nice trying out recipes you haven't done before. Not much fun stickin' to the same stuff you do all the time.

[Congrats Oz on getting Shinji to open up a little. He looks more comfortable than before too, shoulders leveled out and back pressed against the bench instead of stick straight.

Maybe Oz's shounen friendship skills will prevail after all...!

And because he is a senpai and Oz has been volunteered into the role of cooking kouhai:]

You been practicing a lot then?

[He is also 100% involved in this chat and too busy to notice the trees. Cue Jaws theme LOUDER TREE RUSTLING playing in the background.]
harepiece: (it's a croissant you fool)

i wont let u down...

[personal profile] harepiece 2015-01-19 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
[See these are the moments he lives for!! When SHOUNEN FRIENDSHIP SKILLS work even on beanie-wearing punks who skip school...]

Have you tried a lot of recipes? Do you cook things from other countries? [SHINJI THE SEASONED CHEF. He swings one of his legs idly, looking both interested and curious. As for the question:]

I cook things a few times a week, but I wouldn't mind practicing more. [He just has to balance learning how to cook with making sure his poor loser friend still feels needed in the kitchen...

THAT SAID, Oz may or may not have noticed the shark-like tree rustling going on by now, but doesn't pay it too much mind because how bad can a person's luck be?? (HE SHOULD KNOW BETTER)]
unevoke: (pic#8046157)

ur too good to me aki

[personal profile] unevoke 2015-02-01 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
[The rapidfire questions throw him a little off-guard - enthusiasm from anyone usually does - but he answers them all the same, secretly pleased to be discussing one of his favorite subjects with someone who seems about as excited over it as he is.]

I try a lot of different things, yeah. It all depends on what I can find in the supermarkets.

[And what he can afford. The struggles of poor people without steady sources of income. But ah, the struggles of trying to cook more in the kitchen, how to solve that (without hurting poor loser friends in the process).]

You could start up a cooking club, or volunteer to help out more at dinner. [Not that he knows what Oz does now, but it can't hurt.]

[Meanwhile, the tree's had enough of being simple Background Tree B; a lower branch cracks off and suddenly sails through the air right towards the park bench.

Someone better have fast reflexes here.]
harepiece: (cut that shit out)

anything for u comrade!!! STRIKES A BATTLE POSE

[personal profile] harepiece 2015-02-01 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
[THEY'RE BOTH TRIPPING OVER THEMSELVES IN THEIR STRUGGLES. Their food struggles... food woes... But he just nods along as the explanation is given, and he does seem very much interested in the subject. It's partially because he's kind of enjoyed cooking so far, but also because he can tell it's something Shinji's passionate about, and he's the sort of nerd who loves talking to people about their passions.]

The ingredients here are pretty weird, aren't they? [For someone from ye olde times, at least... In regard to volunteering:]

I think I could, so— [AND THEN THERE'S THE BRANCH and Oz lets out a startled:] Eh?!! [And the beanie hooligan was right all along.

Luckily he does have good reflexes to an extent... Hopefully Shinji enjoys being tackled off the bench by a small noodle-y child, because that is literally Oz's first reaction.]
unevoke: (--the shit)

SWOONS LOUDLY

[personal profile] unevoke 2015-02-03 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
[He didn't want to be right about this though, dammit.

Anything Shinjiro's about to say or do in response to the sudden halt of words is pushed aside as he himself is literally pushed off the bench by a kid practically half his size. He lands on the ground with a heavy oof, but recovers quickly enough to scramble to his knees and see—

—a tree branch whizzing away from them to bury itself in the ground some ten feet away.

What the hell?

He stares agape at it for a good five seconds before ducking back down next to the bench. If there are more tree branches about to fire themselves off like nuclear missiles, he doesn't want to be in their way.]

Dammit.

[What do they do now.]
harepiece: (GENTLY THROTTLES)

sprinkles smelling salts on u and sends u out to sea...

[personal profile] harepiece 2015-02-03 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
[TOO LATE NOW, he has to accept his rightness...

But Oz just sort of lies on the ground for a second like a useless lump before sitting bolt upright, peeking over the side of the bench. THERE IS STILL SOME OMINOUS TREE-RUSTLING but at least no other branch missiles... yet. Now that it's happened once, Oz doesn't trust that tree at all.]

Uh—!! [...WHAT DO THEY DO NOW.] Should we make a run for the sidewalk?! I think we could make it from here...
unevoke: (Default)

[personal profile] unevoke 2015-02-05 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
[That tree probably has thug tree buddies lying in wait somewhere, ready to ambush Oz and Shinji. There is no safety.

And given that there's no safety, they really should do something other than crouch on the ground behind a lone park bench. (Though, if they get attacked while they're the only ones by the bench and the bench gets destroyed, are they liable for that...? Questions for later, probably.) For now, they've gotta get outta here.]

Sidewalk. In three, two....

[Aaaand--]

Go!

harepiece: (ah.......)

[personal profile] harepiece 2015-02-05 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
[BOOKIN IT LIKE THE WIND!! Though he also keeps an eye on Shinji just in case. Maybe the trees are trying to take him out because his paranoia helps to limit grievous ghost damage...

Once he gets to the sidewalk, he comes skidding to a stop, glancing back toward the Deadly Foliage.]

—It's more dangerous to be out here than it is to be in the city after all.
unevoke: (pic#8036686)

[personal profile] unevoke 2015-02-06 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
[He's already been bonked in the face by a kettle, his luck can't possibly get any worse. Or so he thinks.

Surprisingly, they both make it to the sidewalk with no injury, though Shinji's left out of breath again, palms against his thighs as he bends over slightly. Man, he sure is getting old if this short dashes are tiring him out. Then again, maybe it's just stress getting to him.

Shinji joins Oz in staring at Deadly Foliage and scratches his chin in thought.]

Your place have a lot of stuff in it? Maybe we oughta go places where there ain't anything that could fly at us.

[Like....an empty basement?? Or his apartment, he's a loser with bare minimum furniture.]
harepiece: (thrown to the waters)

[personal profile] harepiece 2015-02-06 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't have a lot, and we put most of the heavy things on the floor or inside of the closet.

[THEY ARE PREPARED. Mostly because they spent the morning being pelted by teacups and spoons and old dishes that had been left unwashed...]

Is that okay? Or is that still too much... [The litmus test here is Shinji, since he's the one who seems to continuously be attracting this weird shit?! Shinji turn off your bizarre magneticism.]
unevoke: (Default)

[personal profile] unevoke 2015-02-17 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Look, he's going to solve all their problems with this one easy line:]

Then you head to your place and I'll head towards mine.

[Said like the true shounen hero he should have been!! And besides, it's not like his place is full of crap either - it should be fairly simple for him to hide out and not get attacked by more stuff.

And maybe the unluckiness will be split in half if they part ways?]
harepiece: (it's been years)

[personal profile] harepiece 2015-02-17 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
[GOD, SHINJI. Didn't you watch Scooby Doo as a kid?? Splitting up the gang never works out well okay you think it will but it just doesn't. They'll probably end up with half of the scant amount of luck they have left, instead.

BUT... Since this guy seems like the kind of person who likes to do his own thing, after a few seconds of scrutinizing staring, Oz will just ask:]

Will you be okay?

[Like Shinji is the one here who needs babysitting...]
unevoke: (no.)

[personal profile] unevoke 2015-02-19 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Wow he is a grown adult who routinely takes care of other people??? Also he was deprived as a child and didn't get to watch the wonder that was Scooby Doo, he doesn't know these things.

Guess he'll just have to learn for himself. (Watch as he immediately gets mauled by a mop the second he gets home....)

But he just nods curtly.]

Yeah. Don't get hit by anything on the way back.

[He cares a little??]
harepiece: (it's a croissant you fool)

[personal profile] harepiece 2015-02-19 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
[PLEASE DON'T GET MAULED BY A MOP, SHINJI... At least not where Oz can't see and laugh run to the rescue!!

But that's that, or so it seems, and Oz won't hold the poor guy up even longer considering he seems to be the one attracting cups and pots and trees.]

I won't! You take care too, okay?

[He will be checking up later... Or would, if his body didn't run away from him the next day.]
