PHASE I [ 6 30 ] You really have arrived, finally.
Too bad the welcome isn’t so great.
Upon arrival, you will literally be dropped out of the sky.
You may land in the lake (watch out for the fish). You may land on the roofs of the buildings in the town (watch out for the spires). Or you may be unlucky, and fall all the way from the sky to the ground, at which point you die and lose a life already.
Don’t worry, you’ll respawn in the air and you can try again.
Good luck this time!
If you do manage to finally land in a way that doesn’t break your spine and/or drown you, you’ll find that if you’re a newcomer, you’ll have some strange words hovering over your head. They seem to be a set of your name, a level, a class and a quest, something like -- Ima Adventurerer Lv. 9000 Class: Dragon Slayer Current Quest: Slay every dragon -- but aside from existing, they don't seem to have any actual impact on your abilities or requirements. But you can do the quests if you really want to. Everyone will clap politely for you if you do. There might be confetti, even.
They would appear to coincide with a scroll or two posted up in the middle of town for everyone to see.
At least it’s easy to tell who’s new this round.
PHASE II [ 7 45 ] Once you’re safely on the ground (hopefully no broken bones!), it’s time to get a feel for the game. As free range as it seems to be, you have all sorts of choices in where to go and what to do. You could take on some quests! You could go hunt down monsters! You could...pick up that fancy looking armor over there!
Except you may not actually want to do so. As soon as you touch that armor, it will equip itself, no ifs, ands or buts. Of course, it isn’t so bad, at least, not for the ladies. For the men who equip the armor, they may find it to be a little breezy. In many different variations.
To make matters worse, be careful what you touch in your inventory, unless you want to equip a fish instead of your sword, or whatever the hell this is instead of your cool, awesome, special weapon. Good luck.
And the only way to unequip it is to find something else to equip. There’s motivation for some questing, at least.
PHASE III [ 10 00 ] Eventually, you have to venture out of the town, however. There are NPCs ushering you to quest onwards, and there’s nothing in the town worth poking your nose into; none of the doors open, and all of the NPCs say the same, looping lines in a creepy monotone.
There are quests to be done outside of the town, they say, over and over.
So, off you go. However, the moment you step out of the town, you’re…somewhere else entirely. Look behind you, and the town is gone. Look around you, and there’s nothing but flowers, fields and the other people who have stepped out of the town themselves, looking equally confused. The bizarre armor is now gone, and you're back in your proper clothing; the strange floating titles and levels and the like are also gone. Otherwise, it is silent; there isn’t a single other soul. No bird song, no buzzing of bees -- just silence.
Of course, it won’t last. Soon, the monsters show up...but strangely, they seem to be monsters from your world, if your world had monsters. If your world had animals, they are those, or robots, or any number of combinations. But they seem...different. They’re meaner, larger, nastier, and all dark colors and bloody, dripping claws and fangs.
It seems everything’s been a little corrupted here -- even things from your own worlds.
PHASE IV [ 14 00 ] If you persevere through the monster-infested fields, trampling your way through flowers which did nothing at all to you, you’ll eventually find yourself at a still, still lake. It’s a beautiful place, quiet and hushed and untouched, and totally monster-free; it might be a good place to take a breather.
But if you look into the lake, even for a brief moment, you’ll see whatever it is you want most in the world. Whether it’s a person (dead or alive), a thing, a title… it doesn’t matter; the lake will show it, tantalizing and right there, so close to being in your grasp.
If you don’t pull away immediately, you might find that it’s hypnotizing, in fact; you’ll feel the need to go closer and closer, even if it means wading into the lake to get closer to that goal. Just...don’t go too far. Something is waiting for you.
If you touch someone to try to help them, you’ll see what they are also seeing in the lake, for better or for worse. It might be a good chance to get to know them, if you weren’t, you know, in danger of being eaten.
Thankfully, with some perseverance and good friends, the hypnotism can be broken. You do have friends, right?
If you survive all of that, you can finally log out and join Cerealia proper -- hooray!
BONUS [ xx xx ] There sure are a lot of flowers in this field of flowers. There are flowers everywhere. Which isn’t a bad thing, unless you’re allergic to flowers (if you are allergic to flowers, CERES apologizes and suggests you take their special, patented ClariCERESclear to clear that right up). Except...the longer you’re in said field of flowers, the more you may notice that things are a little...strange.
Some of the pollen of the flowers has some strange effects on your bodies, it would seem. You could stumble across any of these (or none at all), and they could last anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour or two, depending on how much of that pollen you breathe in.
The effects are as follows: ➟ The urge to princess-carry the nearest person ➟ The urge to serenade the nearest person, regardless of your singing ability ➟ An awakened urge to be really aggressive towards the nearest person, even to the point of fighting (it's time to pvp) ➟ Uncontrollable crying ➟ An uncontrollable urge to make flower crowns and place them on peoples' heads (which thus further spreads the other effects). Don’t trust the flowers.

Yuri Kozukata | OTA | Feel free to carry over CR from the TDM!
[Phase 1]
[Yuri stares at the words floating above her head with a look of vague distate. No matter how much she waves her arms, they remain above her. Mocking.
Class: Ghost Hunter
Current Quest: Learn Extreme Scrapbooking
What does that even mean?? Well it means she gets a sweet outfit for her class apparently, which Yuri doesn't seem particularly comfortable with...
Well, no time to really worry about that, because Yuri's got bigger problems. Namely that she's trapped on a roof, not entirely sure how to get down that doesn't involve jumping and hoping she doesn't break all her bones.
After sitting and deliberating for a good 10 minutes, she finally concedes that she's not getting down without help. So she scoots a little closer to the ledge and leans over, trying to get someone's attention.]
Uh-- Hey! Excuse me? [She even raises a hand to give a little wave, removing her veil with her free hand to see better. Up here!!]
[Phase III: A]
[Well congratulations, you get a crash course in Fatal Frame ghosts today! Thankfully, ViViD has decided to make them more tangible, so that Yuri's camera isn't the only thing capable of defeating them!
Bachelorette #1 is a good 8 feet tall and seems happy to just grin widely. Creepily. "You can't escape," she whispers and looms over you like some creepy female version of Slenderman. Only with a face. Is that better or worse?
Bachelorette #2 (Warning for blood/sort of gore?) is dressed similarly to Yuri, crazily enough! But don't confuse the two, namely because Yuri's actually friendly! Ish. Her catch phrase seems to be "Allow your own heart to melt away. Only then can you truly glance into the souls of others." Cheery.
Yuri's quick to run up to anyone being terrorized by them, throwing...rocks. She hasn't quite figured out how to use any of the other weapons (that's not her Camera), and throwing rocks seems to distract the creatures well enough.]
Let's get out of here! [She makes to grab your character's hand or arm, intent on trying to pull them away from the danger. Why fight when you can run!!]
[Phase III: B]
[or maybe you're really unlucky and you find yourself face-to-face with one of these women. Or this girl. Unlike their other counterparts listed above, they are still very much spirits. Which means normal weapons and such? Won't do a damn thing. Oops.
Thankfully, that's where Yuri comes in! Perhaps a ghost is closing in on you, when the bright flash and the sound of a camera going off become your saving bell. The spirits stagger back with a shriek of pain and Yuri lowers her old-fashioned looking camera with a grim expression.]
Are you alright? We should hurry away before they regroup.
[Phase IV]
Maybe now we can finally take a break...?
[Famous last words muttered by an exhausted not-quite-legit shrine maiden near the shore. Still, it's nice to catch a breather, right? Even if the lake makes her uneasy just on virtue of being a giant body of water alone. She eyes it with a considerably high level of suspicion-- but given what else has been going on today, can you blame a girl?
It's all well and good until she stares a little too long. Her eyes go wide and she scrambles to her feet.] Hisoka--!?
[And as if hypnotized, she begins to slowly wade into the water, determined to get to the woman who isn't there. If someone grabs her, they'll see a beautiful young woman there, holding her arms open as if in invitation to embrace.]
Phase IIIA
He hasn't even donned his battle garb and he's already kicking their butts up and down street, which isn't really so bad. Sure if someone saw the meek and cowardly musician beating up ghouls like it's no one's business, it would raise some suspicion but he can't be bothered to care. He's enjoying himself way too much.
Until a girl came by and starts tugging him to run.]
What? Why? I'm winning!
no subject
They're-- You shouldn't be-- [She starts and stops before making a helpless sort of gesture, reaching up to pull her veil away] Shouldn't we be running from them? They could kill you!
[Well. Clearly he was holding his own well enough, but still.]

III-a.
As if that weren't enough, he makes it out of Sengoku BasaRoach to bump into Yuri, who he doesn't recognize at first— her mode of dress is very different this time around (aka she doesn't have her thigh band on??? how is he supposed to know it's her??), and she seems to be getting accosted by... someone who could be her twin, if her twin was mangled, bloody, and talking about seeing into souls.
Off to a good start.
Being military, Adolf doesn't falter in his motion to take out his transformation drug, no. What interrupts him is a hand on his wrist and a sharp tug, one that makes him lose balance for a split second before he registers that the girl pulling him away has every intention of getting him to run. ]
...I can—
[ Fight, he's about to say, before he finds himself stepping on the hem of her robes and swerving, swerving... let's see what happens here. ]
no subject
The fact is that she doesn't know what will kill (rekill?) this woman, and she's really not sure if her camera will work. So, naturally, she has to just save everyone else as best she can.
She's about to argue this (seriously, she has a whole speech planned about why Adolf should Just Run Away/Live to Fight Another Day) but he's stepping on her robes, and she's trying to step back...
None of it is a good combination and sure enough Yuri is going down with a cry of surprise. Her headdress goes askew, pulling at her hair where it's weaved through it, and she reaches up to pull the veil away from one side of her face, expression the picture of pained concern]
Are you okay?
[The slashed up lady seems to just be lingering. Watching them. Probably laughing at them a little tbh]

[ 'That' being the camera.
If she starts to go, he'll follow, but until then, he's insisting on staying right where he is. ]
no subject
[Obviously. And obviously that's not what he means when he asks, but Yuri glances away and lowers the camera. It should be fine for a bit, it'll take the spirits some time to regroup anyhow.]
It's made for fighting things like that. Spirits. [She shifts uncomfortably, shrugging as if to say 'I know it's Weird']

iii.b
Chaltier complains, words only for Leon's ears, about how cold and strange it feels, but Leon just grits his teeth and has to take a few quick steps back, as much as he doesn't like retreating.
This is the worst.
He's planning a second attack (magic, instead, probably), when there's a flash, and the spirits stagger back...which gives him enough time to follow up with his plan. He lifts his sword, for the moment ignoring Yuri. He needs to focus to use this arte, and he needs the time that she managed to buy him.]
Black Hole!
[The spell itself is a lot like its name would imply, of course, and there's something really unnerving about watching said spirits get dragged into a dark mass of nothingness. Even Leon would admit that much, but he's not going to, just like how he's not going to admit that Yuri saved him there, because he never would've been able to cast an arte of that magnitude without her and her camera.]
no subject
Well.
When Yuri set out to protect some people and save them from the incorporeal beings that haunted her waking moments before coming to this ViViD/Ceres clusterfuck, this hadn't been hat she had in mind.
She'd come to accept that people could do weird magic and stuff around here, but that doesn't make it any less shocking when she actually sees it. Her mouth opens and clsoes as she tries to think of something to say.]

If your answer was ghosts, you would be wrong. That's why Namazuo, who regularly fights corrupt and grotesque monsters, is standing uselessly with a look of sheer terror on his face. He doesn't even have his sword drawn, because everyone knows you can't fight ghosts with swords!! "You can't escape"? What kind of a joke is this?! WHERE IS HIS BIG BROTHER WHEN HE NEEDS HIM.]
Huh?! [WHAT'S HAPPENING WHO'S GRABBING HIM--oh, it's a lady, and they're running. Yes, good, running seems like an excellent plan. She doesn't need to tell him twice.]
Quickly--!

She lets him go almost immediately, planting her hands on her knees as she takes in a few deep breaths.]

[ If Kogami's voice didn't get through, Yuri will feel someone grabbing her arm and pulling her back a little. Kogami may not have been in this world long enough, but he knows a few things about hallucinations, and this place certainly has no shortage of inducing them on others.
There's a pause as he inhales his cigarette smoke, allowing her to say something before he opens up with questions of his own. ]
no subject
He doesn't have to go that far, because it's enough to snap Yuri out of it. She blinks and Hisoka's image wavers and disappears] No--! [She flinches in surprise and takes a step back, brow furrowing as she realizes it was all a trick.
Ah... She brings her shoulders up a little defensively and turns to face Kogami, twisting her fingers in her sleeve. She's a little reluctant to say it, not because she's not thankful, but because it's embarrassing] ...Thank you.

What does get a reaction is the camera, and Lapis's eyes widen for a moment as she glances between Yuri and the ghost staggering back.]
... I'm fine, I'm used to this kind of thing. [As she says this, another, burned ghost puts himself between the girls and the ghost lady, in case she comes at them again. Which Lapis pays no attention too because she's more curious about the camera right now.]
How is your camera able to do that?
no subject
Her eyes dart around, trying to figure out where it's safe to look.] What? [Good going, Yuri. She looks back at the question and then down at the camera.]
It's... special? [To put it lightly. How does she explain without sounding insane? Yuri takes a breath and straightens her back a little, deciding to just go for it.] It exorcises spirits-- among other things.
But we should get somewhere safe before she recovers. [Her eyes go nervously to the burned man again, but he didn't seem hostile, so there wasn't much of an incentive to try and exorcise him or anything.]

iii-a!
Old habits are hard to break, after all.
His face is set in a grim and determined frown as he's ready to fight them off -
Only for one of his wrists to get tugged at. His eyes widen slightly at the fact that someone's tugging at his jacket sleeve, and it doesn't help that the person who wants to tug him back looks a lot like the ghost women in front of him, minus the drenched and blood-soaked look.]
Wha-??
[Sorry Yuri, he hasn't put two and two together just yet. Though at the very least, he has enough sense to sheathe his sword before accidentally hitting a non-target, instead opting to activate the throwing stars attached to the sheath and with a flick of his free wrist, throw them at the ghosts.
No.
Really.]
no subject
Will this place ever cease to amaze her? Still, thank to these particularly solid not-ghosts-anymore, the throwing stars seem to do the trick to take them down. Yuri winces and looks away to avoid watching (more) blood spray from her bloody doppelganger, moving to remove her veil and look at him.]
We should still get out of here before more come. [It's all she can think to say, since her mind is still sort of looping around this bizarre ninja-ing she's seen here.]
