My Puzzle Life's Complete
Who: Mikleo
a_meebo & Sorey
unwaverings
When: OOC: 11/17; IC: 4/8
Where: The Zesty apartment
What: Sorey has promised to give Mikleo more info on what's going on in this house. Also, he needs a goddamn haircut.
Rating/Warning: Pretty major spoilers for Tales of Zestiria, C for Cute
[Mikleo really hadn't taken a good look around the apartment the previous day. He'd been more inclined to just lie down in bed with Sorey and decompress after talking to so many people, a marvel in and of itself. It had all been a lot to process, and he really didn't think that adding to it with what Sorey needed to say would help him.
It's the early morning when he wakes up. Sorey is still asleep, though that doesn't surprise him at all. Carefully and quietly, Mikleo slips out of bed without disturbing his friend and heads out into the main room. He feels like reading until Sorey wakes up, but something catches his eye.
Leaning against the wall near the couch is a staff. Not just any staff. It's painfully familiar, and he automatically walks towards it. Mikleo picks it up like it might turn to dust in his hands.
Muse's staff. The one thing he has left of his birth mother, other than a painful and horrific memory.
As he holds it in his hands, Mikleo just...doesn't know what to do with it. He's not sure where to put it that's out of the way of anyone trying to walk through the living room. For once, the water seraph is at a loss.]

He can't see it, but Mikleo quirks an eyebrow.] You also intentionally started this conversation on a light note.
[The water seraph pauses for a moment at the question, covering it up by checking to make sure Sorey's hair is nice and even in the back. Now, he move around to the side to trim around his ear.]
No better place than the beginning, right?
no subject
[ But, ah, wow. Don't call him out on his trying to start this on a light note!! He'll think on that for a second then, before he starts trying to describe the beginning of his time here in .... the gentlest way possible. ]
The beginning ... Okay. Let's see. [ ... ] Well, I woke up here in a hospital, even though there was nothing wrong with me. But they were treating me like there was. It was kind of weird.
[ Maybe if he doesn't ask for details about it he won't have to tell him about the dangerous things. ]
no subject
Treating you how?
[His imagination is already filling in possibilities, as much as he doesn't want to entertain them. Experimental medicines, perhaps something more psychological....
After a pause, the water seraph sighs.]
Sorey...I know you want to be gentle about it, but I need to know what to expect. From what I've understood, yesterday's arrival was relatively tame in comparison to things that have happened in the past.
[But that's all he'll say about it as he finishes up this side and moves to Sorey's other side.]
no subject
... Sorry. I know that, Mikleo. [ ... ] I didn't want to worry you, but you're right. You need to know this stuff. [ Ah, he exhales and thinks of how to word what happened to him. Keeping it a secret won't change the fact that Cerealia is going to continue to do things like this to people, so Mikleo's bound to realize Sorey's kind of been mistreated a lot since he got here sooner or later. And not knowing might make him worry even more, so ... ]
Well, for starters, the hospital was full of weird creatures. I think they called them aliens. They looked dangerous, but it was more the people [ if he can call them that ] there that were the dangerous ones. They ... [ mmmnnn ] They did things like stick needles in you that'd make you do weird things, or strap you to tables and try to give you extra elbows ...
[ Don't ask him how that was going to work out, he's not the mad doctor here and he escaped before that could happen, luckily. ]
... Things like that.
[ A-Awkward. ]
no subject
[He's quiet as he listens to the details and, at the end of it, makes a sound of disgust. Mikleo finishes the side he's on before running a hand through Sorey's hair--a gesture of comfort this time--and coming around to finish up by doing his bangs. He has a frown on his face and looks troubled by what he's been told, but...well, it could've been a worse reaction.]
Well...you're alright, and that's all that matters to me. I'm just sorry I couldn't be there to help you.
[Mikleo's going to make sure that Sorey doesn't have to face a situation like that without him around to help again.]
So, what happened after that?
no subject
But seeing Mikleo frowning right in front of him gives him a bad feeling in his stomach — it's never enjoyable seeing his best friend upset by anything, let alone the things he himself is telling him. So he'll smile and try to turn this mood around at least a little bit. ]
It's fine, Mikleo! I made a lot of friends while I was there, so it wasn't all bad.
[ But hmm. ] After that ...? Well, after that, things calmed down a little and I got situated here. Things tend to calm down for a little while before something else big happens.
no subject
I'm not surprised by that. I doubt there's anything that'll stop you from trying to befriend other people.
[Exasperating though it may be at points, it's nonetheless a quality that Mikleo likes about his friend. He's always been concerned that Sorey missed out on something for not having as many human friends. It's perhaps the one good thing he can say about arriving in this colony.]
Was that next big thing the jungle you and Ruby mentioned?
no subject
Nah, there were a few things before that. Like when I ended up in that dark place with all those people hanging, and I couldn't find the exit so I ended up disappearing ... or when the colony flooded and the water kept trying to drown me. [ Ah, but that sounds kind of bad. Have to lighten it up!! ] But I met friends during those things, too, so ...! [ Hahah ... ha. ]
no subject
Disappearing?
[That's pretty bad and confusing, since his friend is obviously right here and fit as a fiddle. However, it's the drowning thing that really gets to him, and some of that shows in his expression the moment Sorey talks about it. He doesn't say anything about it, though. It's no use feeling guilty over something he doesn't have control over.
Carefully, not wanting to get more hair on the kitchen floor, Mikleo takes the towel off of Sorey and shakes the hair out into the trashcan.]
Keep going. I'm listening while I clean up.
[He sets the towel on the counter for the moment. It'll go in the wash after their conversation. Mikleo moves to grab the broom and dustbin to clean the floor of as much of Sorey's hair as he can get.]
no subject
[ He's sorry this is all so weird and confusing. And he notices Mikleo's expression when he talks about the water, but he's not sure how to make it sound better. The water really was out to get him. ]
After the flood, I helped with fixing the colony back up, but after that is when we were all taken to the jungle you've heard about. [ A pause. ] What did Ruby tell you about it?
[ So he knows what he should cover. ]
no subject
[Mikleo glances at Sorey when he asks that question.]
Only that it suffocated people, though those of the wind element didn't seem as affected by that. If they were, then it took a considerably longer time for it to take its toll on them in comparison to everyone else.
[It makes sense to him, honestly.]
Other than that, she didn't tell me much about it. She might have been saving it for you to explain.
[That may or may not be a pointed look shot in Sorey's direction.]
no subject
But hmmmn. He'll give that a moment to mull over, because he's not sure how to explain some of what happened lightly, and maybe he'll be touching his arm reflexively because he sure did get quite an injury (that's healed at least!!) while he was there. There's some difficult-to-notice stitching on his sleeve, there, too — he couldn't very well leave the rip in the fabric alone. Hah ...
He'll start off easy though. ] Then I guess I have a lot to cover. [ ... ] First of all, I found some interesting ruins of a village while I was out there. I talked to some others about it, but it was too difficult to come to a conclusion on what happened there without more information. [ See? Cool ruins! I-It wasn't all bad, hah. ] But there are some dangerous monsters out there, so I'm not even sure if it's safe to go back. [ ... Going to leave out the part where one of them hurt him. All the information Mikleo needs is that they're dangerous! He just wanted information about Cerealia, right? So it's fine. ]
And eventually, we were taken to a firey place. At least I was, but it didn't look like everyone was there, so others might've been taken somewhere else. That's when it became hard to breathe. [ Hahah ... ] And after a few days there, breathing was just too difficult ... and I passed out, only to wake up back here like it didn't even happen.
no subject
You got hurt, didn't you. [He saw the gesture, but he's also talked to Alisha about it.] Alisha told me that you two had to fight off monsters at one point. Your wound healed alright?
[At least it doesn't sound like he's going to get up in Sorey's face about it. Rather, he just goes to the sink to wash his hands.]
Curiouser and curiouser. You have no idea why you were in a fiery place or how you came back here?
no subject
He ... nods then. ] Yeah. It's healed now, so it's nothing to worry about.
[ But ah, at least he can answer those two questions. Vaguely. ]
We were brought there by someone. And someone else saved us before we passed out from lack of air. All I remember remember is this weird machine.
[ It was a golf cart, Sorey. ]
no subject
[And that's all he needs to say on that subject.
Now that Mikleo's done drying his hands, he starts rooting around the kitchen for the ingredients and utensils he needs for making waffles. He did promise, after all.]
At least you all got rescued before lasting damage was done. Anything else major happen?
no subject
[ Sure, he still passed out, but at least he was saved. Who knows what would've happened had he been left there. Gah.
But he thinks on that for a second before deciding he can't think of anything. ] Nah, I think that's it. You're pretty much caught up.
no subject
Well, caught up on events that have happened, but not the technological advancements.
[Granted, there's nothing he needs to learn with regards to the waffle iron, but. The point still stands that learning all about this technology is going to be an adventure.]
...But if you want to wash up before that, I promise I won't burn the place down while I make waffles.
no subject
[ Considering Mikleo's not good at cooking with heat anyway and all these technological advancements do is make his skills better by default.
But he's not opposed to washing up real quick. But first — ]
Are you sure about that?
[ Gotta tease the best friend. ]
no subject
Mikleo looks so unimpressed while he's putting the ingredients in the bowl, but there's a smile that's trying to come out that says he's actually amused.]
I'm a water seraph. If I can't put out a fire, then there's something wrong with this picture.
no subject
Yeah, you're right about that one. [ Aaah, stretching. He hasn't had much time to relax this morning anyway what with all the conversation and hair cutting. ] Alright, I'll go wash up. See you in a few, okay?
[ Aaand off he goes to the bathroom to get ready for the day. Please try to at least not burn the waffles, Mikleo. ]
no subject
He doesn't do anything fancy with the batter, at least. Mikleo isn't so sure that the waffle iron would like that much. They come out maybe a shade too brown, but it doesn't make them inedible.
There's a plate ready for Sorey when he's done. Some strawberries are arranged nicely with the waffles, and there's butter and syrup on the table. Mikleo's almost finished cleaning what he used, and another plate of waffles is sitting on the counter. He's not sure if Alisha is here or at whatever job she has in the colony, but he'll keep out the utensils just in case she hasn't left.]
no subject
I'm back! How'd it go? [ Hmhmhmm looking over at the waffles and their slightly overcooked look. Laughing a little. ] Well, they look better than they'd normally be.
[ There's a playful tone to that. ]
no subject
Are you saying you don't want me to make things like this for you anymore?
[He puts the last utensil away and dries his hands. After, Mikleo takes his plate and sits down across from Sorey.]
no subject
No, no! I'm sure they taste great anyway. [ Hahah. Gosh, Mikleo.
He'll go ahead and put some butter and syrup on it though. Ah, it's like sweets for breakfast ... so good. ]
no subject
I'll take it as a victory if it doesn't kill you.
[He's just going to eat his strawberries first. Honestly, Mikleo's only worried that it didn't cook all the way through. Of course they haven't, but it's still a worry when he hasn't used an iron like this before.]
