What: It's a break-in! That seems like a fantastic idea that in no way could possibly go wrong.

[ Entering the CERES research tower will be somewhat easier than expected.

There are no armed guards that will stop anyone if they come in through the front doors (or the side doors, or any doors) and regardless of which doors they choose, there will be a desk, behind which sits a robot receptionist. If they come in through a window, there will be a robot receptionist. No matter how they break in, the receptionist is there.

Weird.

If you talk to the robot receptionist, he will give you a pamphet. It is titled CERES and You: How to Live a Fulfilling Life With CERES. Now doesn't that sound like fun reading.

After a rousing game of rock, paper, scissors (unless you really want to play Uno in the lobby), it's decided. One group will go left. One group will go right.

There are unassuming doors on each side. Time to go! ]

[ This lucky group gets to go left. The door before them is unlocked, and the receptionist seems to have no interest in stopping them. There is a paper sign taped onto the door, though. What a work of art.

Wow, does the receptionist work at all?

(And are the doors aligned differently from how they were during the previous raid?) ]

[Splitting up was both a good and a bad idea as far as Hiro was concerned, but he's also feeling a little more confident than before. He's been in the tower once and he made it out with a little insider help. Weirdly, he doesn't quite remember his path but...it's been some time. Maybe he just forgot. Doesn't matter though. This time he has Baymax, his older brother, a trusted friend, and said-trusted friend's dragon.

Nothing to worry about. He had tucked one of the CERES and You pamphlets into his utility belt already and he approaches the door when he realizes the receptionist has no interest in stopping them, staring at the sign contemplatively. He's close to charging right in, but his hand lingers on the doorknob at the last minute as he faces his companions.]

Does...anybody else find this a little too easy?

Too easy.

[ this guy might be slightly annoyed by how easy it seems. it could definitely be a trap, but he's more than prepared for what's to come. ]

Let me go in first.

[ it isn't like hiccup ever comes into these kinds of things expecting anything besides the unexpected--he's learned his lesson by now--but. well. this is... something else. considering the last time he was here he ended up diving into a trap, this is both an unwelcome and welcome change of pace. welcome because he's not in an elevator shaft, unwelcome because it makes things feel more unsettling, somehow.

behind him toothless bristles just the slightest, the dragon's protective instincts are triggered by the... everything in this place. excuse him as he groans just a little, ear-fins lowering tentatively against his head. even he knows just blasting open the door isn't a good idea this early on. ]

My resolve is crumbling in the face of that very convincing and threatening sign, actually.

[ serious words from hiccup, except not really. tadashi's insistence on going first is met with a raised brow, though the offer isn't entirely unexpected. he's not going to argue that, however, even if he'd like to. in the end-- ]

It'll get harder from here.

[Baymax is busy standing guard and also scanning the area for any other signs of life by the time the Hamadas and Hiccup approach the door. Unlike Toothless he isn't outwardly showing his protective side but he's most certainly gearing up for whatever may be on the other side of the door. He senses his partner's sudden spike of anxiety at the idea of Tadashi going first, but before he can comment on it Hiro rolls his eyes at Hiccup.]

You and I weren't here too long ago, Hiccup. We kinda know what to expect. [But he looks up at Tadashi anyway.] Let's just open the door and see what's out there before we figure out who's going where first. [And before either of the others can stop him he grips the doorknob again and almost forcefully turns it...only to find it even more suspiciously unlocked and allowing it to swing open for the three of them to peer inside.]

[ The door swings open to a hallway that leads to an elevator.

There aren't any doors. Just cold tile, fluorescent lighting, and an elevator at the end of the hallway.

No alarms or anything are going off yet, at least. ]

[ tadashi pokes his head in first to see if there are any traps. truth be told, he's also pretty anxious about this whole mission. but for everyone's sake, he puts up his usual calm exterior.

and he takes a step in. ]

[ Nope, it's just a hallway, so nothing happens, even when Tadashi steps in.

Carry on! ]

[He's running through a list of scenarios even as he squeezes past Tadashi to enter the hallway. Baymax has a harder time squeezing his way past his original creator but Hiro's smaller and bendier. It's easy to lead the group into the hall and he glances back at Tadashi and Hiccup even as he approaches the elevator.

The problem with Hiro Hamada is that even with everything he's experienced so far he's pretty fearless in the face of finding answers. It's for that reason he stops and looks for a button, fingers already running along the panel as he debates.]

All of us can't fit in the elevator, I don't think. [Mostly because...well...they have a dragon and a giant robot.] But we should go up. If we're looking for the base for the implants...they've gotta work via satellite or something to get a good signal which means it'd have to be higher up. But how're we all gonna get up there? Send one group ahead and wait for the others on whatever floor we can get to? [His hand's already inching for the "up" button. Speak now or forever hold your peace.]

[ hiro, you can't just leave hiccup and toothless there???? but it does seem like the most plausible solution. and at the very least, with one group being left behind, someone can call for help if the elevator malfunctions or does something crazy. (who knows, right?) ]

Getting really cramped up in here, [ you know. JUST SAYING. ] Might be better to split now.

[ wow okay just ditch em that's fine....

but no, that makes sense. the fact that there's simply... nothing so far is a little unnerving, considering it's about at this point that things started Going To Hell for them before, but it doesn't exactly change things. they were here, they needed to move forward. this is what they needed to do to move forward, so... ]

That makes the most sense. [ ... hm. give him a moment to think about that, though, because-- ] Let Toothless and I go first. We'll meet up with you guys on the highest floor this'll take us to.

[ unvoiced, but if the elevator does end up doing Something Funny (which is of course always a possibility here in good old Cereal Land), at least they'll have the technology-inclined people intact should they find something further in. ]

[On the bright side, if the elevator cable snaps Toothless can fly and save Hiccup so there's that. Let's not give any ideas, no dead Hiccups allowed. Regardless, Hiro presses the button finally and steps out of the way as the elevator doors open to allow Hiccup and Toothless to step inside.

He has the same thoughts. Nothing so far isn't a good sign at all since they were all accosted and split up so early last time.]

Be careful. And wait for us. We'll be right behind you. [And that's all he'll say while he waits for the elevator to be boarded and the doors to close in his face, even if Baymax is patiently waiting and examining the safety of the elevator and Hiro himself is moving a little closer to Tadashi just in case.]

[ it's not a bad idea to let toothless and hiccup go in first, but if anything ever happens to them, tadashi would feel a lot responsible. it's just in him to be that way. but in any case, he steps outside the elevator and back into the reception area (???) to let hiccup and toothless go in. ]

You guys better take care.

The doors close.

There is a panel, but... it doesn't appear to have normal buttons. Rather, it seems as though there's a place for inputting some sort of ID code, or swiping a card. ]

Please input Identification Code.

[ fingers crossed!! he'll offer hiro and tadashi a reassuring smile before going into the evil, evil (probably not) elevator. unfortunately, thinking it would be as easy as PRESS BUTTON, GET TO TOP was probably a mistake. hiccup's first response to the automated voice that greets him? basically toothless'.

a pause, a sigh (or a groan, in the dragon's case), and then a muttered: ]

... Well, of course.

[ he recalls what happened to grell, the first time they'd been here, so he hesitates to fiddle with the panel in a way he shouldn't (not that he can, anyway). worse comes to worst, it isn't like they couldn't just blast the top and travel up the shaft up that way, maybe, but perhaps that's too much for the moment.

he moves closer to the closed doors. ]

Hiro, Tadashi! We're-- gonna need an Identification Code, something like that, before this moves.

[ please hold as he will not button mash you yet, mysterious panel. he has the other half of this nerd squad to consult. ]

[ he looks at the door, then at hiro. well, of course it wouldn't be this easy. he got complacent earlier, but now his guard is up even more.

because of this, he pulls out his tablet from his man-bag (shh it's totally manly) and looks around for a computer he can hook it up on. otherwise, he'll just be trying to get into ceres' system using wireless fidelity, or something. (i'm not techy.) ]

Hiro, help me out here.

[This doesn't surprise him considering the last time he was in the tower a robot asked him for a password. He'd messed up last time but powered through. This time he thinks carefully, watching Tadashi move as he leans against the wall supporting the elevator to talk to Hiccup.]

What kind of identification code? Badge, numbers, letters? Is there anything else inside the elevator? [He lets his eyes stay on Tadashi even as he's talking to Hiccup, hoping that maybe the elevator presents some kind of hint.] The last time we were here, it was a verbal password.

[ and at that, he'll move to look in-depth at the panel and around the elevator, though it isn't like there's much to really look at. there's a hand gently outstretched to guide toothless around the enclosed space and as he looks, he speaks. ]

There's a slit on the panel-- [ he's not about that fancy swiping card business, you see. then, an addition with a hint of urgency (he'd heard tadashi's help me out here) as he inspects the input buttons on the panel specifically: ] And, uh, if you're trying anything out there, I'd--

[ please hold, toothless nudged a little to the side when he shouldn't have since the area's a bit cramped, so he ends up tripping over a tail slightly. ]

--I'd be careful. Last time someone tried that, it didn't exactly turn out well.

[There's a pause.] What exactly happened to you guys last time? [He's moving to help Tadashi search and so his voice gets louder.] It sounds exactly like an identification badge that we don't have access to...unless...

[...yeah, he's going to go back toward the robot receptionist. Maybe it has a badge or something they can borrow? Hiccup probably doesn't know he's walking away but he can talk to Tadashi in the meantime. Baymax continues to stand guard as well, watching his partner move and keeping a close eye on him.] Hold that thought. Tadashi, any luck logging on remotely?

[Even as he's asking he's approaching the robot at the front desk and leaving Hiccup in the elevator and Tadashi searching for a way into the network. Now...what says you, our favorite receptionist? Anything useful from you? Let's find out.]

[ The favorite receptionist gives Hiro an unimpressed look. The receptionist was not planning on doing any work today, but now there are people causing all sorts of trouble!!! ]

As for the others, if Hiccup or Tadashi doesn't have an arm preventing that door from sliding shut, it's going to slide shut right about now.

Granted, even if they do have an arm in there, it might just slide shut on said arm, so that could be bad. ]

[He's completely unaware of the fact that since he left the door wide open so Tadashi and Baymax can see him (and Hiccup can hear him), that door can easily shut. Here's hoping nobody's arm is actually there because he hears it shut completely and he whips his head around.]

Hey! [He turns, looking at the shut door before lifting a fist and pounding on it to try and get it back open. Okay...okay! This really could have gone better and now he's locked out from anything even remotely useful and without his team. Great. He bangs on the door one more time and works on prying it open before deciding that he should probably be a little more aware of the fact that the robot just spoke. So he turns to face the receptionist, blinking slowly and giving the robot an appraising sort of look. (What if he takes it apart? There's always that. But that's a little drastic.) His hand hovers over his utility belt where his gunblade is stored and deactivated but he's checking his surroundings. Even if the receptionist had a computer maybe he can break in somehow.]

...I need access to the elevator. The top-most floor. For research, you know? I'm looking for some information so unless you can direct me to another part of the facility with a directory and some answers...[Because maybe just asking will work. Totally. And if not he'll figure out something.]

[ Asking is totally not going to work.

The robot looks at him for a long moment. And then turns back to whatever work he was doing before (wait is he just doodling flowers on a piece of paper.... what kind of robot is this). ]

You do not have access to the top floor. You do not have access to the elevator.

Please leave.

[Well. He tried. But no really it's not like he'll give up so immediately so he's watching the robot for a moment (and really that is a fantastic question) before he shakes his head.

...it's a robot. Maybe he can just...]

Why? [Robots are programmed a certain way, aren't they. Maybe he can ask enough questions to possible overload it, or at least get the door to open so he can get back to his friends.] Who says I don't have access to it?

[He's a little more than concerned that he can't see what's happening in the other room and also the fact that Hiccup's still inside the actual elevator. Tadashi at least has Baymax in case this goes horribly wrong.]

[ The robot looks at Hiro again at that, and the answer is simple. ]

Your Identification Code is wrong.

[ In the other room, in the elevator, there's a warning beep. And then the elevator is going to start to move -- down. ]

[ he should've just blasted the top off tbh.

but, no, when the warning beep goes off hiccup's immediate response is not yay! progress! because he has no clue what's going on. he'd assumed hiro had moved to do something by trailing back the way they came, which made... sense, but the sounds of pounding-on-a-door he'd managed to catch from inside didn't exactly paint wonderful pictures for how that was going.

and then he's moving. ominously, of course, because this is a ceres elevator and his only experiences with ceres elevators have been we're going down, we're yelling timber. again, not good signs, so-- ]

Uhh, we're... moving! Not up!

[ that's yelled as quickly as he can. any explanations he can ask for he won't hear, so he doesn't bother asking for them.

instead, he's just going to move closer to toothless, completely ready to blast a hole in this elevator and leave if it feels like it's going to crash into a pile of broken dreams and robot-sassing teens. otherwise he'll just stay on. yeah, this is a good start. no better start could've been had, even if he'd asked thor personally for it. ]
