no objections to parties
Who: The Ace Attorney cast + CR!
When: 4/19, afternoon and evening
Where: The function room of some restaurant in the Shopping District
What: Phoenix Wright, Miles Edgeworth, Klavier Gavin and Ema Skye are celebrating their birthdays in one big bash with all their friends.
Rating/Warning: Nobody’s getting murdered, so just Ace Attorney ridiculousness.
[ It was by sheer coincidence that the month of April had so many birthdays from people from the same world. Which meant that the best solution was to have the largest birthday party of all birthday parties. Or so was Klavier’s thinking. He knew that some part of the population was plagued with some weird disease that caused headache and fever, so the celebration was relatively low key.
But low key for Klavier would still be considered extravagant for others. He took the liberty of renting out a large room in one of Cerealia’s many restaurants and sent an invite to everyone who he could think of was in Cerealia and encouraged them to invite their friends. The more the merrier, as he said.
Because all of the people celebrating had some connection with the law, there was thus an appropriate cake. There was some confusion with the food because instead of ramen and burgers, there were ramen burgers instead being served on trays by waiters. Plus the drinks were unusually glimmerous, to say the least (but non alcoholic, of course.)
Aside from the food, there was music and even a piano in the back in case some people wanted to play. A gift table was set up so that people could leave their gifts, but good luck trying to find it. ]
(( this is an open log so please feel free to make top levels for your characters! if your character knows any of the ace attorney people even by the slightest smidgen, chances are they were invited. or you can gatecrash and nobody would be able to tell. or klavier accidentally texted the wrong number and they got invited. ))

I will. I promise.
You even said so yourself. I don't have a fever. I can't be that sick if I don't have a fever. I must not be sleeping well...adjusting to the new surroundings...the temperature...
[She was partially rambling now. Trying to convince herself as much as him.]
no subject
Hey... it's alright. Whatever this is, we'll figure it out, alright? We'll find a solution.
But for right now, I think that the best thing we can do is - is to just sit back and take it easy.
no subject
[She already had the sitting part down. And, from that part of the room, she could look out and see almost everyone in attendance. Smiling softly, even though a faint yawn, at how many familiar faces she could already recognize.]
You have so many friends here, Feenie. It's wonderful.
no subject
I do, don't I? I guess I'm lucky. [Lucky to have made so many friends... and lucky that so many people I care about made it here.]
I couldn't ask for anything more for a birthday present, belated as it is.
no subject
I...did manage to get you something. It's not much--I couldn't stay out shopping for too long without getting tired--but...I hope you like it...
[With that, she reached over and pulled out a small box. Not even meeting his gaze as she shyly passed it to him. When he opens it, he'll find twin cuff links meant to match his lawyer suit.]
no subject
And he gives a warm smile as he looks them over.]
Iris... I love them.
[He looks right at her.]
Thank you so much! [And then he turns to pick up the cuff links and start fiddling with them in his fingers.]
no subject
I saw them, and couldn't help thinking of you. The way you are in a courtroom. Always balancing the pros and cons of finding the Truth and carrying the weight of that honesty with you.
no subject
Wow. Thanks, Iris. That's... that's the look that I go for! [A more nervous laugh.] I'm just glad, for all the times that the Truth can successfully be reached.
no subject
[Maybe it was her current illness. She was tired and a little weaker than usual and not on top of things. Any other time, she would have blushed. This time, however, she merely laughed right along with him. Adjusting her movements with the second cuff link so that her touch wouldn't tickle the other wrist.]
I'm glad...that I no longer have to be afraid of the Truth.
no subject
I... I'm glad that you're not afraid, Iris. [And some admiration shines through his eyes.]
You always have been so strong.
no subject
Not really. I was always just around strong people. It's always easier to pretend when you have someone to look up to what you want to be.
no subject
Even if it feels like you're pretending... That's still a type of strength. And something that helps you to become stronger. I know that you're a strong person, Iris.
no subject
[Her eyes lifted to meet his gaze now. They were glossy an unfocused, but it was clear that she knew what she was asking: a question that had been on her mind for...quite a long time.]
no subject
Well... Yes. Even if what you were doing wasn't necessarily the right thing, it's not like you wanted to be her. Y-you pretended to be her to protect her. You set aside what you wanted and persevered.
That.... that still sounds like strength to me, Iris.
no subject
[Yes, her smile grew sad. And she shook her head.]
No, Feenie, you're wrong.
[Not about all of it. Just...]
I did want to be Dahlia. She did so many awful things, yes, but...when we were younger, I knew a different side of her. I saw how she was strong and always willing to do what she thought was necessary to get what she wanted. She had a difficult life, and she was able to survive in the only way she knew how.
When I...when I first tried to convince her to let me take her place, I think...a part of me wanted to do it for more reasons than just protecting her.
no subject
...I see. If that's so, Iris, then I'm sorry for assuming otherwise. I never realized that- that you saw it in that way.
[Dahlia... I guess that she did have her own strengths, alongside the poison and the betryal.]
So you truly did want to be her?
no subject
[Certainly not the parts that hurt other people. Not the poison and betrayal and constant lying and manipulation.]
But...[She shook her head.]...not anymore.
no subject
Yes... I see.
Iris, you never stood a chance of becoming Dahlia Hawthorne. Because, in the end, you really were too strong. [Otherwise, she would have ended up just like Dahlia...]
And you are your own person.
no subject
I am.
And part of that is because of you. Because even when I slipped in my role at times, you never seemed to notice. You liked me just the same.
no subject
I didn't even know what slip-ups to look for. I was... It was practically like being under a spell. Of - of simple, blissful happiness. I don't think the real Dahlia could have pulled that off in the long run. ...Only a kind and strong heart like yours could.
no subject
You have no idea how happy it makes me to hear you say that, Feenie.
At times...I felt the same way. Like I was under a spell of happiness all my own. You were one of my first experiences outside either the Temple or Dahlia. I learned a lot from you.
no subject
A- a spell of happiness, huh? [A shame it couldn't last. ...Is it really true, what they say? That all good things must come to an end?] Yeah... I'd say that sounds right.
I'm happy, and proud for- for anything I was able to help you to learn. I learned a lot from you too, you know. [Even if a lot of it was confused and/or undermined by that incident that ended it all.]
no subject
[What could she have possibly taught him? A sheltered temple girl. The few skills she possessed had to have been kept hidden because of her deception. Most of their conversation centered around little things. Likes. Dislikes. She''d been so genuinely curious about his studies that she could have spent hours listening to him tell her about anything and everything without uttering a single word in return.]
no subject
...I learned what it meant to really believe in someone. [A pause as he looks onwards.]
Absolutely and to the bitter end. Even after what happened with court... with Dahlia... It still couldn't shake that belief in the person I had spent all that time with. It's something that helped me to get used to believing in others again and again. And in the end, that original belief... Like most of the time when I believe in someone... It led me to the truth.
[Now he looks back at her, with a smile.]
To you. And it's a better truth than I could have hoped for.
[The woman I believed in so much, and the woman who betrayed me... They were really were different people in the end.
He leans a little closer to her without fully realizing it.]
Thank you, Iris.
no subject
[He'd told her something similar in the past. About having always believed in her. Even with all that Dahlia had done, the memories they'd shared had been too strong for her sister to completely shatter. And she'd believed him. Believed in him. With a little help, perhaps, but her belief had been rewarded in so many different ways, not the least of which being a heavy weight of guilt finally lifting from her shoulders.]
[But...this? To hear that she was the one who taught him how to believe so strongly....]
Feenie...
[A spell. Not unlike the one that had been cast over her five years ago. It was the only way to explain how she felt so calm, even though her heart was racing. How her first reaction, when he leaned in that much closer, was to also lean in a little. A hand rising to the center of her chest. Directly over her heart.]
And you...still feel that way? Even now?
