[ So while you're walking about, enjoying or hating your day, you will encounter a dog. This dog will, as adorable corgis do, perform one of the following feats:

a.) Steal whatever you're holding for a game of Keep Away. Don't think that being tall will save you, he's got quite the spring in his hind legs.

b.) Drop whatever thing he's picked up (ball, wadded up paper, someone's high heel) and wait expectantly for you to play fetch with him.

c.) Bark. And roll over. This means love him.

d.) Trip you. It's probably unintentional.

Whatever he does, at least you'll hear two voices (familiar or not) clamoring in the distance for "Zweeeeeeeeeeeeeei!" and then Yang and Ruby will be heading in your direction at high speed.

Whatever you do, don't grab the dog and run. They may not know who you are, but they will find you. And they will kill you.

Or at least make you regret it. ]

Don't be jealous, Ruby. You're not as fuzzy, so of course you'd have a harder time.

[He laughs at that; he's never had anyone act remotely jealous over any of his friendships, furry ones included. He's experimenting with concurrent belly rubs and chin scratchings now, too.]

I mean, it's my first dog-friend, so you can probably cut him some slack. The furry part does help a bit, though.

[Look, making friends is hard for Ruby, okay...

But she can't stay sulky for long.]

Well, I guess it's true that nobody's as cute as Zwei. I mean, even Weiss likes him.

That's true... it's only the cats that have problems.

[ ISN'T THAT RIGHT, BLAKE... ]

[Alright, his legs are gonna cramp up if he stays crouched down too long, so with a final, vigorous round of petting, he's stopping his attention on pups and standing up, stretching as he does so. Sorry, Zwei.]

He's a pretty great dog, but I wouldn't worry too much-- you two are pretty cool, yourselves. [Not that he knows Yang all that much, but he's trusting his excellent judgement of character here, and it's not like it can hurt to be nice about things.]

[It's okay, Zwei's happy with what he got. He just stands there, panting cheerfully, tail wagging.]

[And, to Yang, in a whisper--]

See, he thinks I'm cool.

[Well, he's just glad that apparently they are all Very Cool People.]

I have great taste. That's why I only talk to people-- and dogs, that are also great, actually. It's a thing.

[No, it's not. But it's fun to pretend, so whatever.]

But Kagari likes me because I'm cool too, and not just because I'm related to you, right? Right, Kagari?

[He's laughing too, but quieter, and with an agreeable nod at Ruby.]

You got it-- in fact, I really think you might be even cooler.

[Sorry Yang, if he's gotta take a side it's gotta the adorable kid sister's side.]

[WHA....WHAT!!! WHAT!!!]

Did you hear that, Yang? He said I'm even cooler!

[Kagari is now her favorite person.]

[ DRAMATICALLY FALLS TO HER KNEES. ]

[That's his cue to shoot his best severely condescending frown in Yang's direction. The effect is only slightly spoiled by him not being able to maintain it for more than a few seconds before a grin starts working its way back onto his face, but details, details.]

You had to know this day was coming eventually. You couldn't always be cooler.

[Ruby, for her part, is just jumping up and punching the air in her excitement.]

This never happens! I can't believe it! I'm... cool!

For the record--! [ Back on her feet, thank you. ] I'm still in the lead!!

I don't think I've ever seen anyone competing for being the coolest, but you two make it seem pretty fun.

[He's honestly amused by all of this anyway; this kind of ongoing but harmless competition is ridiculous enough to be a good time even from and outsiders perspective.]

Hey, don't you start, Kagari! [DRAMATIC POINTING.] You're pretty cool too, so if you join in the competition, I might not be winning anymore!

Might as well let the whole colony join in, right?

[He holds up hands in a placating gesture, laughing as he does so.]

I'm staying out of it-- I'm happy spectating from the sidelines, honestly. Though the whole colony might be just a little unfair.

Especially with Zwei in the running.

... Yeah... none of us can compete with Zwei.

He's just so cute and fluffy! Look at his face! Who could compete with that face?!

Well, hey, there you go. Two of the coolest people and the best dog. You guys aren't doing too badly for yourselves at all. I mean, you really can't go downhill from there.
