Where: A large booth at the CERES Academy cultural festival
What: Rise's holding a special event to help bring people together at the cultural festival! This may be chaotic

[The cultural festival at the school has been in full-on planning mode for a few weeks. Rise is no exception to the planning and included in the flyers that have gone up is a notice printed on bright pink paper and bold lettering for a very special event.

The booth itself has been set up with a small cluster of tables to accommodate for the amount of people who have been signed up and even for a few last-minute sign-ups. The tables themselves have been decorated with special candles and a tray containing two bowls, two spoons, and a a tray with all the ingredients needed for an ice cream sundae.

At the front of the booth is a collection of heart-shaped name tags with all of the names of each individual whose signed up, along with a number attached. Rise will smile at each person, handing both the name tag and a small envelope to them with instructions not to open it until she says so.

It’s only when everyone has arrived and is crowded inside the booth that she pulls out a megaphone (and really, who gave her that?) and she turns it on.]

Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the Cerealia School Speed-Matching event! Meeting people can be really hard here, but don’t worry, we’re making it easy! You’ll see that the tables all have numbers assigned to them. On my count, open your envelopes and see who you’re starting with. When the bell rings, switch partners! Seems pretty simple, huh?

[Nobody gets to get a say in this apparently, but they may see one Yu Narukami who’s sitting on the table behind Rise just watching everyone casual as can be. Why is he wearing glasses? Who knows.]

Okie dokie! Let’s get this show on the road! On your mark…get set…open!

[Hope you’re ready, colonists. Inside each envelope is a starter number for the first match, and also a list of starter questions for asking people about themselves. Some people have lists corresponding with the speed dating route, while others are for the “friends only” route. But wait…what’s that? Some of those lists are crosswired? Your character would try to mingle with everybody and flirt anyway? Well hey. At least people will be talking and mingling.

Oh, and don’t mind the people who may wander in and out of the event. Rise will try to moderator the event to her best ability but hey, she’s pretty social herself. Some people are bound to slip in and out under her watch. Have fun! And remember, beware of the bell! (Or Rise announcing "SWITCH" in a loud voice via megaphone, same thing.)]

[It walks over his fingers, along to the back of his hand, little blue wings sparkling before it makes a sort of sing-song chime and flew off.]

No, she isn't. [And it made him mad that she hadn't appeared, that the stupid alter below had her Priest brush broken across it like some kind of reminder and he clamped down at that anger. It would do him no good to get angry in the middle of this sort of fun.]

It is nice to be reminded of my moon, though not as nice as if she was here sharing this with me.

[Kashuu certainly understands the feeling of loss and loneliness that comes with important people not being around, and his expression creases with sympathy.]

Maybe they'll be able to pull her code someday. A butterfly's nice and all and that one's super pretty, but it's not the same, yeah? So I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys.

[Jinga wasn't as human enough to say that was what he felt. Amily was his partner and his lover, but loneliness wasn't something that he would consider what he felt without her around. It was more like an annoyance, especially when he did not have anyone to speak to concerning the follies of the humans around them.

He just couldn't come out and say it though.]

Mm, they might, thank you. [He folded his hands on the table, stopping the restless fiddling he had been doing.] So, how have you been with this place?

[Meanwhile, the Literal Sword is perfectly content with just shooting the shit about emotions and humanity and all that good stuff. But lighthearted banter is just as well by him, and he shifts from topic to topic pretty easily.]

Pretty good! It takes some getting used to and there are some parts you never really get used to, but adjusting is the same pretty much anywhere you go.

Like what are you having difficulty with?

[It amused him to think that there were pieces of this place that might be hard to understand. He never felt out of place, but then again, he was a creature designed to take his cues from the life around him and mimic it. Well. More or less.]

Some of the technology? Or is it the people?

More like the really awful leadership.

[There are definitely some verbal airquotes around the word "leadership", there... His disdain for CERES is quite strong.]

I've had the chance to adapt to technology before coming here and I like people a lot, so they're fine!

We have leadership? I thought it was more like dictatorship or of us being more like ants on an ant farm they are studying.

[He never saw anything around them as qualifying for leadership, though the type of interference he had seen looked almost at the same level as the beasts ruling over the wastelands of the Horror's world. As for the people, well, he could take them or leave them. They weren't important.]

At least there is that. Some people are still trying to figure out lamps.

Well, yeah, that too.

["Leaders" probably isn't the best descriptor of the CEO or any of her employees...]

Lamps can be pretty confusing if you've never seen electricity before, but with so many tech-savvy people around, there's totally no excuse to learn asap!

True, but sometimes I wonder if some people would rather stick to what they know instead of play with what they don't know.

[It was silly to do so given the circumstances, but Jinga tries not to judge too harshly. After all, such disconnections within humanity was part of how he was able to push open the boundaries for Inga. He may not be able to do that here, but still, it was habit.]

Mm... I guess it kinda makes sense, but still!

[He's-- Actually, he stayed away from the microwave after he blew it up the first time, so he can totally understand where some of that apprehension might have come from.]

Maybe we should set up some sort of class for the technophobes out there.

There are a few electronics that could be deadly if used wrong, but yes, people do need to reach out for help a little more.

[The idea of teaching anyone anything had him chuckling. He wasn't that bad at it, but he wasn't also that invested in the other people of this place to take time to do so.]

For free? Or would you ask for donations?

For free! [He teaches his classes at the dojo for free too, so the thought of asking for donations hadn't even occurred to him.]

I guess considering how high-tech this city is, it's kinda like a crash survival course, right? Something like that should definitely be available to anyone. But I guess people could donate some electronics if they want, since I don't wanna bash up our new microwave or buy a ton of stuff just for demos.

Although bringing some old electronics would probably be useful. You can't let them destroy your stuff while they are still learning.

Yeah, there's no way I have the money to cover replacement costs if they go and ruin a bunch of stuff... Maybe there's some sort of like, bargain store, but for microwaves and ovens or whatever.

You could ask around. I know that pawn shops use to be a thing, but unsure if they have them here.

Pawn shops? I've never heard of those before, but I'll check it out to see what I can find. I mean, for a kinda smallish city, this place has a lot of stuff.

[That's part of the reason he likes it when it's not being insane! It's always new.]

There are a lot of people with a lot of ideas; it would be strange if there wasn't.

[People are very inventive and there were a lot of people stuck in this small place. He would find it odd if there wasn't the amount of creative force involved with this place given the type of minds here.]

True, true! It's a little weird for me, I guess - like, just 'cause I come from a place that doesn't have a whole lot of stuff in it.

I use to live in a forest and work along the more isolated roads and villages until recently. So I do understand a little bit of culture shock.

[Not that it stopped him from learning all about his surroundings.]

Oh, really? It's kinda hard to tell. You look like a modern kinda guy! Like fancy big-city tastes and stuff, y'know?

[He nods, more to himself than anything, as if reaffirming that impression.]

Well, you can say that adapting to my surroundings is one of my stronger talents.

[That and the fact that he probably ate a few Horrors who were urban types and learned from them. Not he was going to say that.]

Not bad, not bad! Adaptability is one of the best traits, I think. I mean, that's why humans are still around, y'know?

Oh, I know.

[He finds that statement very amusing. Then again, the entire history of the Order came from humans trying to find a way to drive off Horrors, which led to his current condition.]

If they didn't adapt, I'm sure humans would have been destroyed by now.

[He says it easily, but he's actually very fond of humans in the end and thinks it's for the best that they've managed to survive so long.]

Kinda neat, y'know? Watching them adapt and stuff.

It can be neat, though I must end up watching rather dumb ones a lot. Sometimes they make me wonder how they manage to live so long.
