[Being a shrine maiden isn't really tough work. Sure her robes are a little strange and elaborate, but she's getting used to them-- the fact it's the same style of robes worn by the dead shrine maidens in her world notwithstanding. She doesn't even mind the weird headpiece or the cloth over her eyes.

Honestly, it's giving her a way of trying to understand the old shrine maidens, a feeling of connection, but- That's neither here nor there.

If you're someone she ran into in ViViD (however briefly and here's where you're free to handwave that maybe they saw each other in passing), Yuri approaches.]

Excuse me. [How does she see through that thing covering her eyes?? She raises a hand and gently lifts the veil to reveal her face and nods in greeting. Normally she'd also wave with her free hand, but that arm is currently cradling a...bouquet of flowers?? Weird.] Hello. I just... Wanted to know if you were doing well. The first day was a little...

[She trails off, because how do you even begin to describe that? So she decides to skip over it and continues:] Are you settling in alright?

[Alright so this whole "offering her abilities as a service to people" thing was good in theory, but she's been getting a lot of requests from your friendly everyday NPCs. And mostly it's to find stuff they misplaced and could probably find if they actually put in any effort or something.

'I'm not bitter,' i say bitterly with a bitter expression. Okay maybe she's not actually bitter, but she is a little exasperated.

Currently it's a case of a missing ring. Anyone sensitive to supernatural things (or maybe the city itself is just being weird and letting it be shown) will see a vaguely humanoid shape walking off before disappearing after a moment. Maybe it's even headed right by you when it disappears??

Yuri, assuming most people can't see it, just grips the ring box tighter and nods her head in passing, staring intently at the place the shape had been. She looks around a moment, frowns, then turns to address you] Sorry, have you seen a ring around here...?

[Maybe Yuri's your waitress at the cafe and you recognize her, or maybe while at her shrine maiden gig or around town you recognize her as the girl advertising her ability to find anything and anyone and you want to put it to the test? Anything goes!]

My... My power will lead me to it. I can find it well enough from that, so I didn't think... [She trails off, clearly embarrassed at her blunder.] It's silver, I think. That's all she really said.

[Yuri hesitates lightly at the question, only because haha how does she even answer that.] I'm... well enough. Recovering. This last event in ViVID was a little...much, for me. [Actually, that brings her to another question, though she's a little hesitant to ask it. It's not as though she's terribly close to Saitou, and she's not sure if his response will be much different from Souji's but......]

Saitou-san, may I ask you a-- possibly personal question? [And she continues once she's sure he won't be terribly offended if she asks anyhow:] Does it bother you any to kill people?

[tsuranuki]

Silver... [ He takes another look around the place; nope, nothing silver standing out. Maybe it was tiny? He hardly knows enough about rings. ]

I think it was troublesome for everyone involved. [ He's not going to look at the mirror the same way again for a while.

But as for her question...Saitou looks straight at Yuri, face a little nondescript as he carefully replies: ] No.

I don't kill innocents nor the defenseless, but those who raise their weapons against me, or those who go against the ideals and things I am loyal to, they must be dealt with. [ He knows it's not a perfect law to abide by, but for the most part, it's served him well, tying in to the reasons he's a samurai and carries his sword. ]

Why do you ask?

[It's about the answer she expected from him. Probably she should be asking this question of people who didn't make a living out of killing people, but she realizes she doesn't think she has very many of those.

Yuri closes her eyes a moment, sighs lightly and then reopens them] You and Souji-san had more or less the same answer. [Though Saitou was more eloquent about it at least.

As for why she was asking... She glances away, expression a little troubled] I... had to use a sword against someone for the first time. I killed someone. [She briefly looks down at her hands, flexes her fingers and sighs again] I wasn't sure how I was supposed to feel, or what I was supposed to do about this fact. I suppose I just wanted insight from a few other people...

[tsuranuki]

We come from a time and place that requires it of us. Souji has his own reasons, and I do mine, but we operate under the same banner.

[ But he understands the comparison. Souji's a little more reckless, but between the two of them in the Shinsengumi, and even as captains, they probably have killed the most amount of people.

Saitou studies at Yuri, at the way she looked at her hands. ] Your first time, you say.

[ Hm. ] It depends on your purpose, and why the intentions for killing someone.

I was protecting myself, at first. I don't-- [Yuri hesitates again, more because it's a touchy subject for other people, and she's never sure how to explain her own feelings regarding the matter... But after a moment she continues with a slight reluctance] I'm not afraid of dying. I don't really care about that, but... I don't want it to be on someone else's terms either. I didn't want to die like that, so I fought back.

After that... I wanted to protect other people. There's going to be fighting here and strange things happening-- I can't protect myself or others if I can't fight, and I can't expect everyone else to watch out for me and protect me. That's not fair to them.

[And being a burden would be the worst thing in this situation, okay?]

There's nothing wrong with your want to protect yourself and others. Whatever you can do in your power, as much as you are able to without overstepping or taking on too much. [ He means people who talk big and their actions falling short of their words. ]

I can understand, though--not wanting to die on someone else's terms. [ Like you lost a choice, an important one. ]
