[They've had a couple days to settle in by now. The apartment isn't big--actually most people would probably call it tiny for two people--but considering the spaces they've gotten used to sharing, it's more than adequate. And for today, at least, Ankh has no intention of leaving it. Since he arrived here, he's been restless, feeling like he didn't know enough about this place to feel the slightest bit comfortable. After the pizza party yesterday, though, he has more information than he even knows what to do with... and maybe between all that and all the stuff that happened just before he and Eiji got there, everything is finally just starting to catch up with him.

The freezer has been stocked with ice pops, and the refrigerator with enough other food to last at least a few days. Neither of them have any reason to go anywhere. Ankh has managed to set up a sleeping space for himself not unlike what he had back in the attic of Cous Coussier, and for the moment, he is flopped up there doing absolutely nothing. Unless idly keeping an eye on Eiji in case he decides to feel the need to leave and go do something stupid counts.]

Is that surprising? There were always Yummies or... something.

[Here, there's just ominous threats in the system that he hasn't figured out what to do with. Even so, he knows he's not as on edge as he used to be. Paranoia seems to have become less his job and more Eiji's.

He's really not sure when that happened.]

I guess. I guess I've gotten used to being so...

Busy. I don't know what to do when I don't have to do anything.

[Even after this much time, Eiji is incapable of doing much of anything just because he wants to. Meanwhile, in Ankh's case, he's just not sure what to do because spending a day just relaxing isn't something he's ever really wanted before, so he's not exactly sure how to make that happen.

One would think that with a two year gap between being the last time Eiji saw him at home and him waking up in Inugami, there would at least be something to talk about. But as far as Ankh can tell, those two years consist largely of things he probably doesn't want to know, anyway, so... no. There isn't, really.]

[Even more, Eiji's not used to just staying in one place at any given time. He's been forced into it the past year, with the constant reminders that anywhere he goes might be dangerous, and he still doesn't know how to deal with that.

He could try to talk, but that hasn't gone so well already.]

Thanks. For trying to make sure I had a day like this.

[He looks off to the side and his immediate response is just... a sound. He really never knows how to react to Eiji thanking him for something.]

Would have been boring sitting around here all day by myself.

[There you go, Eiji. He just wanted a day off for himself, and you're entertainment.]

[At least it's that comfortable awkwardness right now--they're never going to be good about talking about their feelings and they know it, but it's habit too.

It's enough to get close to any kind of emotional topic, at least.]

I don't know how long it'll take for me to feel normal, but things like this help.

[He nods. Initial awkwardness aside, he won't deny that that was part of his reasoning. After everything that had happened, they both needed a break, and probably Eiji moreso.]

Gives your arm a chance to heal before you go running off getting yourself hurt again, anyway.

[And now a slight sulk.]

[Have a raised eyebrow. Sure you don't, Eiji.]

Right. Just most of the time.

[That sulk is full-blown now.]

You make it sound like I can't walk out the door without getting hurt.

[It is true, though.]

[Really, it's an exaggeration, but not by that much.]

At least I know how to use a door.

[Oh yes, real mature, Eiji. Mock the bird for using the window.]

[And he is just going to completely ignore the implication.]

If you managed to hurt yourself walking through a door, that would be really pathetic.

[And an even more childish pout as he starts mumbling.]

That only happened once.

[It involved Hina and the kitchen door at Cous Coussier during a busy lunch rush. Not that he's going to say that out loud, of course.]

Huh? What was that?

[He heard it, he just needs to tease him.]

It's nothing! Nothing that can happen here anyway.

[Because there's no super-strong girls to try to carry more meals than anyone really should carry, at least not in this apartment.]

[Honestly, he'd sort of like to know what the story behind that one was. Though he's not really surprised Eiji somehow got hurt going through a door. He nods toward Eiji's arm.]

I still think you're going to end up with another injury before that's completely healed, one way or another.

[It was awful. There was so much blood.

But of course, Ankh knows just how to push Eiji's buttons, and now he's all huffy.]

Oh yeah? And if I can?

Hah. You want to make it a bet?

[He says, as if he hadn't already had that thought a minute ago.]

Fine. What are you going to put on the line?

[Good question. He had the thought but he hasn't come up with an answer to that yet.]

How am I supposed to know? It's not like there's anything you want.

There's something you like, though.

[No, Eiji. That's just mean.]

[This is what he gets for leaving it open.]

I'm not giving up the ice pops.

Fair enough. But you'll have to pay for them. For...let's say, a month.

[Well, now that worked out. It gave Eiji some wiggle room if he couldn't stand folding another shirt and had to wait for that restaurant to open, and it meant Ankh would have to not get fired from wherever he was working again.]

Tch. Fine.

[It's not a bad deal, really. He was planning on keeping that job with the birds, anyway.]
