Who: Hijikata & You! (with closed prompts to mikazuki meniscus, and Lili coastal)
What: Some sparring! Sword fighting! In-general chillaxing if that's what you're about instead. Meanwhile, Hijikata also promised some lessons to Lili, and a rematch to Mikazuki.
When: Before the interlude
Where: At the Do-jo and Die-jo
Warnings: PG... there will be lots of sword fighting and playing dirty though??? someone's gotta throw dirt in the face every once and awhile.

[ Ah, yes... what a beautiful day at the do-jo and die-jo. although, Hijikata doesn't beat around the bush and just decides to get to training right off the bat! after dragging his comrades back to his apartment, it has been noisier -- which is fine, but he definitely needed to get away today. so, practicing and exercising seems like a good idea.
nonetheless, you might just find him swinging a bokken rhythmically. if you need help with something or want him for some bizarre reason, feel free to approach?
or you can just watch, really. ]

[ although... watching some guy practicing rather than the exciting spars is kind of weird, isn't it? unless you just happen to be glancing that way at that time because Hijikata will stop and notice! ]
What is it?
[ he doesn't sound too happy, but... he never sounds happy. this is normal. he straightens himself and lowers the bokken to his side. ]
This isn't the place to be slacking off. If you're going to practice then pick up a practice sword, if you're looking for something else then spit it out.

[ annnnd with a peak outside... Hijikata finally comes to an excellent conclusion. so he muses this out loud. ]
You know, today is a pretty good day.. The weather is nice.
[ you're going to get a bokken put right into your hands if you don't have one? yes. ] We should go outside, I want to have a spar.
Besides, everyone needs to practice fighting on different terrain, right? Come on. [ why does he sound strangely... pleased and excited about this -- like he has something up his sleeve... ]

Yet Lili is stubborn and she's not sure what kind of teacher Hijikata is - Kashuu is patient and thorough, Mutsu is playful but encouraging - but she's quickly find out. There's no falling even though she's being shoved and she just reorients herself to face him again.

The swing is a practiced motion - and one that she still plans on practicing even more - but at the very least since she's being evaluated there's still no fault to be found. Perfectionist workaholic and all.

anyway, it's nice to teach someone who isn't hesitant or scared! these types are Hijikata's ideal students. honestly, it's good to have guts to hit the Demon Vice Commander, right? er, maybe...
but yeah, sorry Lili you might be down to hit Hijikata buuut with a quick side step, and a lift of his sword he blocks it pretty easily - the wood clatters rather loudly when both swords make contact. ]

WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS
It's almost like he doesn't have to tell her?! In all honesty even before he was instructing her to do it again, she's looking for an opportunity to advance. The permission comes and she moves quickly - if he blocks it again, she'll just try again and again until she might actually be able to land a hit.
Lili's not gifted strength-wise, it's just not in her physical ability even though she's trying, but at the very least she's relentless. The irritation also does something to add force to her strikes.

so... it looks like she's determined to keep swinging this practice sword until she lands a hit, huh. well, Lili is going to get the usual "pep talk" he gives to his troops! ]

[ well, for a beginner all her movements are just... predicable, therefore easy to block. but it's obvious that Kashuu did make sure to teach her good form. ]
Remember, if this was a real sword the slightest mistake can kill you! You need to have the determination to kill!
[ aaand... there's a quick side step! Hijikata dodges as opposed to his usual blocks - will Lili catch on? because he's going to swing his sword right at her side. he'll stop right before the sword does actually make contact with her body, unless she does manage to block this. ]

However "You need to have the determination to kill!" manages to bring up some rather unfortunate memories - no one ever really pushes her that far in her training. Yet there it is: the flashing memory of staring down a sword pointed right at her throat by an angry guard. It's enough to remind her exactly why she's doing this - and it tricks her into taking this more seriously than just a practice match.
Her footwork is one step behind, though she does turn in time to knock her practice sword against his, a glimpse of something truly defensive in her eyes, though her position leaves her off-balance for a second. She's still a novice, but she's very much trying.]

Lili's making a surprised noise, the tempered look on her eyes being traded surprise as she sure is knocked right out of her determination and straight to the dirt. Well, she sure does look irritated... more at the fact that she made a mistake than at Hijikata for knocking her to the ground though.
