[open] And as you know I have a gigantic heart
Who: Rise Kujikawa and OPEN!
When: 7/19-7/23 (IC) aka event-time!
Where: Various prompts
What: It started with a goat. Then it all just went downhill from there. AKA Rise Kujikawa and the mysterious memories event.
Rating/Warning: N/A for now, will update if needed
[It started with a goat. Honestly, at first she thought that she'd dreamed it, that maybe it was just an extension of the white feathers she saw in her dreams recently but no. She wakes up and there sure is a wispy little goat at the foot of her bed. She stares…and the goat bleats flatly at her. It's a sad-looking thing, but as she tries to get closer it seems to disappear immediately.
Wow. That's weird.]
A.) is for Academy
[It's a normal school day. With everyone back from the dead and her worries a little more at ease, she can concentrate a little easier. It's quiet in the Study Hall period of the day and she's working on some homework when she spots the goat out of the corner of her eye…approaching a wastebasket. She hasn't realized it can't change much of the world around them, but she'll get that memo as soon as she gets up and stealthily tries to approach the animal.
Of course, the goat suddenly moves and it startles her and her arms suddenly pinwheel as she yells, trying to balance on her high heels so she doesn't bite the dust. Are you going to catch her? Let her fall? Fall with her? Sorry about all of that.]
B.) is for Bad Places Rise Shouldn't Wander
[This goat is seriously way more trouble than it's worth. She's not sure where it came from or why it's in such poor condition, but she's taken to following it around the colony to make sure it doesn't get too far out of her sight. It's for that reason she doesn't even realize she winds up right in the middle of the Pleasure District. The goat's paused, and if it's possible it gives her a knowing look despite its lack of real expression.
(Is it possible that this goat knows about her dungeon?)
She ends up in a staring contest with the goat, narrowing her eyes when she realizes she's standing in front of a love hotel.]
Don't even think about it. [She sure was talking to the goat, but it's not that hard to overhear her.]
C.) is for Cafe
[Everything is exhausting. She's sprawled over a chair almost ungracefully and that goat hovers around near her feet, but at least its not moving. On occasion, she'll be writing neat lines in a notebook and sipping her tea, though she frowning in concentration. There's an extra chair at her table though. Feel free to ask if you can join her or even be nosy about what she's doing, she won't mind.
On the other hand, if you're a friend or even someone she recognizes, she'll look up and smile brightly before pushing the chair out with her foot.]
Hey, over here!
D.) is for Dancing Games
[Sometimes Rise likes to play games. Sometimes Rise likes to use the game station to practice and when she gets bored of dancing in her room this is the next best thing. However, she's found at the game center today in front of one of the dancing games, and as she watches the colorful arrows fall across the screen she's continually missing and whines in frustration.]
Ugh, come on! This should be really easy! [And it would be…if she actually remembered how to dance. It's like all memories and coordination have left her and she's left trying really hard to fix that. Help her? Challenge her? Question her?]
E.) is for Everything Else!
[If you want to run into her while she's out shopping, at work as a model/karaoke star/tofu connoisseur, or if housemates want to do apartment shenanigans here you go!]
[ooc: ALSO if you have a preference on your type of memory please let me know! Otherwise I will be randomizing. Thank you!]

a!!
[At least, that's what it feels like when she looks at that ghost bird following her. She knows that this colony is known for hallucinations, weird things, ghosts, even - but seeing it there, making pitiful little noises at her, doesn't make the pill easier to swallow. It can't affect the world around it, she's figured that much out, but... She wants to help it, desperately. Yet, it stays wispy, just out of reach.]
[She's only been in this school two weeks, not even that, and yet it seems like the worst waste of time. Nobody's enthusiastic, she's really not learning much she didn't already know on her own, and... Well, she has no idea how to make friends. During study hall, at least, she can work on her own projects: her robot prototypes, sketches of new parts done meticulously on graph paper, waiting for when she finds a machinist to custom-make her some of those parts to build. There are a few sketches of CyBuddy internals in there, too; she has to catch up on her work.]
[But she's not one to let people hurt in favor of work, so when Rise squawks and starts falling all over herself, Sulla's there in an instant to swing out an arm and catch her right around the shoulders like she weighs nothing. Heels, in a place like this??]
Ohmigod are you okay-- Wait... [Sulla looks to where Rise's eyes had been cast, just above the floor... And belatedly lets go. Whoops, almost forgot she was holding this girl she doesn't even know.] Those birds. I mean, this is probably crazy, but, uh. Do you have one, too?
no subject
I'm fine! Sorry, that was just--[Wait, maybe she doesn't have to make an excuse because Sulla's staring in the same spot as she is.] Birds? I haven't seen any birds today, no. But you have...? [Great, are there really multiple ghost-like animals running around? Thank you, Cerealia.]
no subject
[Either way, she scoots back a little, giving Rise and herself both some personal space after catching her.] I just thought, since you were looking at, or seeing something, that... I-I'm sorry! It's really none of my business, is it? [A nervous little laugh as Sulla scratches her own arm, as though there's an itch there. (There isn't; it's just a nervous habit.)]
no subject
It's a goat. [That's all she says at first before looking back up at Sulla with wide eyes.] I didn't know there were birds, too. [Or that other people were experiencing it? Both of those. The problem, of course, is that the goat's now facing Sulla as well.] When did you start seeing it? [And try as she might she still doesn't actually see this bird, or hear it.]
no subject
I started seeing it yesterday. The poor thing had a broken wing, so I tried to patch it up, but my hand just went right through. It's been following me around, though... Maybe they're bonded to us, or our code, somehow?
[Said 'poor bird' is hopping gently towards Rise, wondering if it ought to inspect her closer.]
no subject
That's awful! [A pause.] But the goat's had it pretty rough, too. One of its eyes is missing and its horns are pretty much gone. I hope our code isn't what caused them to get hurt. [There's something else though.] Usually when things glitch here everybody can see them. Why can't we see each other's?
no subject
[No, but the talk of glitching code is way more interesting and less gloomy, so Sulla starts up the conversation that way:] That's weird, that everyone can see them usually. I would think that because our consciousness is stored as code, any anomalies there wouldn't be visible to the rest... Unless it's a glitch in the object that stores all of us. Or unless they're just crappy programmers. But as for this, maybe they only exist on the level of our perception, so they're inextricably tied to us? Or maybe they're not code at all.
no subject
There've been reports of ghosts here. Maybe they're only ghost animals? I've heard about some people having hallucinations only they could see, too. But those were all specific cases and not something that effects everyone. [She brings a hand to her chin.] My friends and I have something that belongs only to us back home, but here everyone can see them. Maybe there's a way we can see each others.
no subject
--That's weird, though. Like... You said you had something everyone can see here, but it was private back home? Is it memories, or something like that? I remember people trading memories in that ViViD level.
no subject
[And with that she stops, laughing slightly because whoops, right.] It wasn't anything like those drinks if that's what you mean. There's been other places in the colony that people have seen other people's memories but...a few friends and I have these things that are a part of us that usually can only be seen inside the TV world back home. We can summon them here and everybody can see them. I wonder if the animals are maybe something like that. They're called Personas.
no subject
Persona. [The name rings a bell... Sulla doesn't know much about psychology, but there's some necessary when you're working with AIs and prototypes of synthetic minds. It's enough that she can call forth:] --You mean, like the psychological concept of 'persona', like the face you show to everyone else as opposed to your real self?
[But then, why couldn't others see them??]
no subject
[But she doesn't get much of a chance to explain that because Sulla's already delving into what a persona is.] It's...something like that? Except our Personas are only born after we accept our true selves. They start out as Shadows first. It's a little complicated.
[Maybe not too complicated, really. Rise's goat is ignoring her and in fact seems to be circling Sulla one more time before deciding enough is enough and it brushes right past her to wander elsewhere. It's just enough though, the briefest touch to throw Sulla forward into a memory not her own.
It's a dark room filled with stage lights, pink booths and pink walls. Up on a stage there's a group of four teenagers and a bear, Rise on the floor and another Rise next to her. The conversation is brief, at least, Rise turning to accept her other self as the others look on. There's a shimmer of light as the girl in the golden bikini disappears, revealing an elegant being in a long white gown. She, too, disappears soon thereafter and a tarot card floats down and disappears before Rise's eyes. Rise collapses again, but she smiles gratefully at her friends, thanking them for rescuing her before the memory fades once again.]
no subject
[Ohgeez is that seriously a strip club. Ohgod this girl's in a bikini right there. Well, Sulla knows what she's not mentioning.]
[But besides that, the whole thing is interesting. That other Rise, and the process of accepting it - something about the experience resonates with Sulla. If she had a shadow like this, it might be about being synthetic: about not being able to accept that she is in two worlds partially, and not fully in either. The memory doesn't give her any idea of Rise's struggles, but...]
[It's nice to know not everyone has it figured out. It's nice to know she's not alone in having to undergo that journey.]
[Instead of directly mentioning hey, so I got one of your memories, and now I know what that power is and also I saw you in a swimsuit and??, though maybe some of that shows in the red in her face, she starts:] You know, I never thought any of this was real before I came here. Ghosts, or 'Personas,' or the . And I'd thought once that maybe we were all in some huge simulation, but the thought of it actually being true never... You know? It's like, once you step in and find out about that side of the world, you can never go back.
no subject
Well, we're all code but the colony itself is real. [She offers a weak smile.] It's hard to believe all of these things are real and I think once you see some things like that? You start to wonder what else is out there.
Ever experience anything like that? [This would be a better conversation if Rise opened her eyes but you know.]
sorry for the wait!!
This doesn't make sense.
doubly sorry for this wait!
Anything in your reading that might help? [She's genuinely curious, really.]

[An idea occurs to her, though, and she puts a finger to her lips before she says:] Maybe they're testing us. Like... Remember that ViViD level we had to go through when we came in? At least, I did. It was like a test, right? When I was younger, my... dad [the word feels so weird, even though she's used it as a lie before] had me do a lot of aptitude tests, too. So maybe this whole place is just testing us to use us for something else, or just to make sure we're up to snuff. --I don't like the idea, but it makes sense if they're just letting us figure it out ourselves, and not doing anything on their end.
