It wasn't usually a common sight to find someone, even a zookeeper, standing in an enclosure with a bird of prey. That said, it had been a somewhat more frequent occurrence at the one here since a certain Greeed with an affinity for birds had arrived. He was sitting on a rock by the fence, not far from the path where guests of the zoo could walk by and look in. His arm was the one that was clearly not human, armored in red and black with a sculpted bird along the back of it... and on the top of that was a real bird. A hawk, specifically, sitting there as calmly as if he were a tree.

"Digimon. She's a digimon. Digital Monster." She initially clarified. "And that's okay. I'm not a digimon, either. But...you don't have to be the same to get along, right?"

Sure, it had been the similarities that initially drew her in. But there was more to it than that. Just like there was more to Tailmon than white fur, yellow gloves, and strange ring on the end of her tail. (...especially the ring.)

Well, that much, he understood, especially since most of the people he ended up getting along with weren't anything like him at all. But still, why was she so interested in him? And why vice versa? After the last time they met, he might have been just as happy to avoid her but here they were talking and he didn't understand why, himself. Especially when he couldn't help having those same memories resurface all over again. Or maybe it was because of that.

"So you like monsters?" Of everything she had said, it was the one thing he could find to latch onto.

A nod, at first, as if that much should have been obvious. Then, a thought occured to her. Lips forming a small 'o' as she glanced upward in thought, before pressing into a thin line. Her brows furrowed.

"Well...only the nice ones. I don't like evil digimon. They hurt too many people."

"So you think I'm nice, then." Maybe that would sound like a topic shift, but it wasn't really, as far as he was concerned. He may not be a digimon, but it wasn't wrong to call himself a monster.

"You see nice."

A little stand-offish, perhaps, but no worse than Yamato could be. And he had yet to try and kidnap her, which was already a major positive.

"Heh." There's some mix of emotions behind that sound that would be hard to individually pick out. He had hurt plenty of people, plenty with full knowledge of what he was doing. And one he hadn't intended to, a long time ago. She'd trusted him, too.

"What if you're wrong?"

Tailmon tensed up beside her, but HIkari...only stood a little straighter. Her eyes staring up at him, wide but not overly so. Watching. Thinking something over in her mind.

"Are you going to try to hurt me?"

He met that gaze, watching similarly. But it faltered at the question, and he looked away again.

"If I had a reason." He didn't have one, didn't think he would have one, but he refused to claim he wouldn't ever. Still, the words lacked force, and he had to wonder at himself about it. He used to say things like that to Eiji all the time without any doubt that he meant them. This felt different.

She smiled.

Not brightly, and not confidently. More of a soft, content smile, coupled with a slight nod of acknowledgement. His words didn't frighten her so much. They didn't sound like a threat--and she had been threatened enough times before by evil digimon to know what a threat sounded like. To her ears, it sounded more like...an uncertainty.

"Then I'll have to make extra sure I never give you a reason."

A smile was about the last thing he was expecting, and he looked surprised for a second as he glanced back at her, then confused, then calculatedly blank.

"You're a weird kid."

The smile only barely faltered, but it was curiosity rather than hurt at the comment.

"I'm...sorry?"

If that was the response he was looking for; she knew she was a bit...different. Even from the other Chosen. She couldn't really help it. That's just how she'd always been. Ever since she was a baby.

(At least she wasn't speaking to him through nothing but whistle tweets, though. Taichi had told her stories about those days.)

All he did was raise an eyebrow back at that. He wasn't sure what response he was expecting, but that hadn't been it. Definitely a weird kid.

Well.

At least she knew that wouldn't be enough to get him mad at her. He seemed more bemused by her weirdness than annoyed.

"You don't...mind, then?"

Just to be sure.

"...who knows?" He replied oh so helpfully, though he really didn't seem annoyed. Her insistence on liking to talk to him was... possibly inconvenient, but if she wanted to ignore warnings, that was up to her. She was actually one of the least annoying people he'd met here.

And the smile was back.

"Good. Then...I can come back here again?" To see both him and his bird friends. "Next time, I'll see if I can bring some bird food for your friend, too."

"Hawks don't eat bird food." Not the kind of things you'd normally think of, anyway. Some of the other birds went crazy over bird seed, though, and maybe if she was holding the bag they wouldn't all try to sit on him at once. He wouldn't mind that. He shrugged. "But do what you want."

"Well...then what does he eat?"

Aside from mice. She was brave and not so squeamish, but there were limits to what she could stand.

"You saw." An example, anyway. "They only eat meat." It didn't have to be mice, or be alive, but hawks were carnivores.

She had to stop and think about that for a moment, before her eyes lit up with an idea.

"Ah! Han-san had sausages the other night for dinner. I'm sure we have other meats like that in the kitchen. Maybe he'll let me bring one of those?"

That might work. Still, he wondered why she was trying so hard to figure it out.

"Why do you want to feed her so much? The zoo has plenty of food already."

"Because it's polite. I'm a guest here, so it's only proper for me to bring them a gift next time I come visit."

In this case, the only gift she could think of that they would appreciate was food. So food, it was.

What kind of thought process was that? As far as he knew, most places like this wouldn't let people feed the animals, anyway.

"I think you're the only person who thinks they should bring gifts to zoo animals."

"Not all of them. Just your hawk friend. Since we've met once already."
