[CLOSED] A Champion v Rival, can he expect survival?

Who: Silver [personal profile] brbstealingpknm & Steven [personal profile] geophile
When: Backdated to IC 8/7
Where: ViViD
What: Steven and Silver have a pokemon battle.
Rating/Warning: It's a pokemon battle. Warnings will be added if needed. (Though Silver might be a warning in his own....)

[The arena Silver managed to set up is simple, and reminiscent of an outdoor gym. Though the feeling around it is vaguely like being under the sea; that's not the sky high above, either, even if there is enough sunlight coming through the water. At least they're not wet, and the fish theme is tasteful minimal. What, he already misses the bubble, and given the chance to set up the level, of course he'd pick what he's comfortable with.

Silver himself is leaning against the stand for non-existent spectators, hair now in a loose ponytail, that does nothing to wipe the confident smirk off his face. He's pretty sure he's going to win; his pokemon are a team - a better team, now. He could have allowed spectators, but - no. He doesn't want to worry about their safety, not when he's in the mood for a decent battle that could very well see dark pulse, shadow ball, or magnet bombs being thrown around by his own pokemon.

Once Steven appears, the young adult pushes away from his resting spot, and heads towards the man, hands in pockets, and - is that seven pokeballs on his belt? Is that a cherishball?
] Ready to lose? 6-on-6 or -? I'll match if you want lower. It doesn't really matter to me.

[He already set the arena, so it's only fair Steven set how many they use in the battle.]

[ and steven moves to his end of the field, watching with a hand on his hip as silver does the same. he may have already beat silver in the past, but something tells him that this time will be different - the young man he was familiar with never mentioned knowing cynthia, and along with being a few years older... it may mean that he'll have to stay on his toes. ]

I seem to recall you being the one to challenge me. [ his smirk is noticeable as he reaches behind his suit jacket to his belt, pulling out a poké ball. ] But I'll take that offer.

[ and once the ball is enlarged, he'll throw it into the air. ]

Let's begin! Skarmory!

[ the steel-clad bird that emerges is definitely one that silver will recognize, but it looks far stronger than the dainty little aron that was following him around. ]

We'll see about that.

[ icy wind might technically be super-effective, but a weak ice-type move landing on a far stronger pokemon means that it won't do much damage. there's some ice that forms on its wings that slows it down as it flies, but it doesn't seem to phase it much... ]

Shake off that ice with Agility!

[ the double speed boost that skarmory will get makes up for the loss that icy wind gives, and increases it one stage on top of it. sneasel might be fast, but skarmory will outspeed it for the next move that has it diving down towards that ice weasel. ]

Steel Wing!

[ with the steel wing hitting its target directly, the heavy damage that's inflicted on sneasel means that the icy wind isn't aimed well - from the air, skarmory is able to avoid a direct hit. what it can't dodge, however, is a feint attack. it does bring it down a notch, forcing it to shake off the impact. ]

Don't give it a moment's rest. Aerial Ace!

[ but two can play at that game. with an unavoidable move of his own that strikes fast and hard, skarmory will swoop down and slash at sneasel with its body. ]

[ if this weren't a part of his job, he might have felt a bit guilty at battling with his full strength against a trainer that clearly wasn't ready to take on a champion. but he wouldn't be giving him the proper respect as a fellow trainer if he didn't give this his all. besides, battles like this were learning opportunities.

the feint attack is a fairly powerful one from such a small body, but skarmory's base defenses far outweigh sneasel's attack stat. the hit doesn't leave the bird unscathed, but it doesn't take long to shake it off once more - his HP might be down, but his armour remains unpenetrated. the gleam in the steel-type's eyes looks proud, and he knows that he has this battle won. ]

Well taken, Skarmory.

[ he caws back to his trainer in response. there's a clear communication and bond there. ]

Let's finish this - Air Slash, from above!

[ and he will obey without question, taking to the skies to flap his wings and rain blades of air from the sky. ]

The loss is something that you share with your Pokémon. Shifting all of the blame is hardly the mark of a responsible Trainer.

[ nag nag nag. skarmory, meanwhile, looks quite proud of himself for being able to take down the sneasel without too much of a fuss. when gengar comes out, it'll stare it down with an intense gaze... until confuse ray hits.

of course, it's going to affect the bird, putting it into a daze that makes it unable to distinguish where it is or what it's attacking. steven's brow knits, but he hardly panics. ]

Take it slow, Skarmory. Fly.

[ unsteadily, he'll flap his wings to rise into the air for the first turn of invulnerability. but his movements are garbled and not nearly as smooth as before, and it may lead to wonder if it can even stay airborne for long. ]

[ nope, no cheating here - everything about this is normal to him. anything otherwise would be news to him, but right now he's more focused on whether skarmory will be hurting itself in its confusion.

unfortunately, the dive that he takes on fly's second turn misses horribly, which means that the poor steel-type will be crashing into the ground quite hard. combine that with being hit with a dark pulse, and that means that he's on his last legs. thankfully, all of that is enough to snap it out of the confused state. ]

Back in the air if you're able, Skarmory. Don't give it another opening!

Counter with Air Slash!

[ with a great beat of his wings, skarmory blows a last-ditch, razor sharp gust of wind to meet gengar's night slash. and while it does succeed in blocking some of the hit (and getting a few in on gengar), it doesn't stop it completely. there's a small explosion upon the impact, and the dust will clear with skarmory knocked out.

steven sighs when he sees his fainted partner, but not without a small smile as he recalls him to his ball. ]

You did well. Rest now.
