When we get started we ain't gonna stop [CLOSED]
Who: Jessica Albert (
magicburst) & Darin Altway (
forgeabettertomorrow)
When: IC: 8/12
Where: The Game Center and into the Colosseum in ViViD
What: Jessica and Darin have the stupidest bet ever going on and now they're putting each other to the test. Who will manage to leave the ring the least embarrassed?
Rating/Warning: A few clothing malfunctions and yelling but likely nothing else. Will update if needed.
[She had said Sunday and she certainly meant it. An evening or so to think things through hadn't really dimmed Jessica's fervor much. She had never quite liked anyone telling her what she should do or feel on any matter, even something as silly as this one. And though she could recognize on one hand that this whole event was silly at best, she couldn't quite bring herself to do the sensible thing of backing down. Her, back down? Not from a fight!
So here it is around Sunday afternoon with her standing before the Game Center, well known now after several games inside it's walls. Her arms are crossed and she taps a foot as she waits out the arrival of her opponent.
One of them would taste a bit of humble pie and Jessica was determined it wouldn't be her.]

[Nevermind the fact that she was just as stubborn as he was.]
[He arrives shortly after Jessica, already raring to go. He was feeling good. He was ready to cut loose and really showcase what he can do when his rear end wasn't on fire.]
So, you showed up, huh? And here I thought I might get stood up.
[Because antagonizing someone before a stupid bet is a great idea, right?]
no subject
Of course not. I'm not the sort of person to run, though you're very welcome to if you've had a change of heart in the end.
no subject
Sorry, I'm not gonna run. Not from you or a simulation.
Anyway, my schedule is cleared for the rest of the day...so what do you say we get this show on the road? I can't wait to be proven right.
[With a cocky grin, Darin strolls into the Game Center and gets them set up with a colosseum simulation. He sets it so that they're on the same team against wave after wave of monsters. And just because he's feeling so cocky, he sets it to the most difficult setting. Because if you're going to tempt fate when the machinery in the colony was already acting a little buggy, you might as well do it noticeably.]
Last chance before we get this going to back out~
no subject
She follows in after him with her head held high and her lips set in a tight, determined fashion.]
It would be my pleasure. Just remember though--
[In the next beat they're in said coliseum. And before them, a group of candy cats, four in total at the moment. It seems the simulation would like to start them off somewhat easily if it weren't for the setting. Not that Jessica knows a thing about that just yet, of course. Instead she readies her whip and finishes her statement.]
You can most certainly be proven wrong as well.
no subject
Honestly? I wouldn't mind it either way. This'll be fun regardless!
[With that, he dashes at the candy cats, unsheathing his dao in a flash and striking down two with blindingly fast strikes.]
no subject
Either way out comes her whip. A pair of lashes later that seem to run across the whole of the group. Two of the cats fall over because hard as they might be, they're still candy cats in the end. The two remaining however have the chance and one goes immediately for Darin, attempting a strike with his claws.
The other mostly purrs and sits, washing his face. Jessica seems somewhat amused.]
Well at least these haven't changed much from home.
no subject
Huh, I wonder if CERES takes aspects of people's worlds and uses them to create these simulations...
[Darin bemusedly dodges the swipes easily enough, flipping backwards onto one hand, then springing back onto his feet. He feels kind of bad cutting down such a weak opponent so...he charges in and punts that candy cat like he was going for a fifty yard field goal.]
[It clears the stands and disappears entirely.]
HAH! Come on, is that all?!
no subject
Perhaps the game wanted to start us off easily?
[No sooner do the words leave her lips then the next opponents pop up. Another nicely rounded group of four, though these are... well. Giant chickens. Jessica looks surprised for a moment before she readies herself.]
It must because so far it's going two for two.
[The whip unfurls again and it's another set of twin lashings for the group. These are fairly buffed up thanks to the difficulty and manage to stand through it, much to the redhead's chagrin.]
Perhaps I ought to have used something a bit harsher. Even those cats seemed tougher than they typically are.
no subject
You sure it's not just your whip? Or are you holding back because you're worried about something?
[Darin jumps in and strikes once, twice, thrice, at one of the chickens...dodging and weaving as they peck at him. He prefers to get up close and personal as he fights.]
I mean, you busted out the fire magic pretty quickly, last time!
no subject
I'm not worried about anything! I thought I might spare you the trouble of bumbling yourself into those flames again is all.
[Honestly he's pegged it right on the money. If this is a case of who can be embarrassed first then no magic really means no chance of that. Then it becomes more a competition of who wears out first, at least in her mind. Now... she grumbles, expression firming into something more determined.]
Alright then, if you want magic then I'll be happy to oblige!
[And it'll be fire magic too just to spite him. A line of it wafts through the row of Cockateers ... and potentially over Darin if he hasn't moved already. She's not waiting on your trash talking self, pal! >:c]
no subject
[He gives her a teasing grin and not only dodges the flames, but weaves back and forth between the Cocateers just to goad her...and also to lure those cockateers together into the flames.]
[With the monsters cooking nicely, he doubles back towards Jessica...only to see a group of three Meowgicians appear. All of which begin casting Frizz.]
Hey! Watch out!!
[He tries to close the gap between himself and her in time!]
no subject
[She's winding up another round of Kafrizz when Darin shouts and she jerks a glance over her shoulder. Her temper is flared enough and the Meowgicians sneaking on in don't help much.]
Think you can get the jump on us, do you? Well-
[Too late. Their spells hit as Jessica's spell hits them and in the end both groups seem to be on fire before Darin can close the gap. For Jessica it's chiefly the hem of her skirt and she ends up making a loud, annoyed sound as she gathers up her skirt before her to try and snuff out it's edges. Thank goodness for tights!]
What in the world is going on?! I've been in so many fights and never had near this much trouble and bother as I have this time!
no subject
[Darin doesn't get a chance to finish his statement when two stone golems appear. One immediately drops its giant fist onto Darin's head, while the other stomps by and makes a beeline for Jessica.]
HRK!!!
[That hurt as hell, but Darin's head is as resilient as it is thick. He reaches up and grips the massive fist and pivots, swinging the golem with a genuine amount of effort and throwing him to the far wall.]
Now we're talking!!
[He rushes after it, right by Jessica, quickly sheathes his dao, and lays into the golem with his fists, smashing away at it.]
no subject
It ends up being a frenzy of action. Jessica barely has time to blow back the Stone Golem for now before she has to turn her attention on the Meowgicians. They get a little taste of Kacrackle though as ice shards jut up from the ground and through the group of them. Jessica seems almost triumphant at that, if a little out of breath from using so much magic so quickly.]
Why don't the lot of you cool down!
[Poor jokes aside, the Stone Golem is pulling itself back up while Jessica is lashing out with her whip to take down a few of the Cockateers.]
no subject
There we go! Now you're gettin' into it! See? I told you this would be fun now that you're cutting loose!
no subject
[There's one Meowgician left and Jessica more or less lashes it into the ground with her whip once she's put the Cockateers in their place. There almost down to just the Stone Golems.]
-- but this lot is a rather strong crowd, don't you think?
[The words no sooner leave her mouth than another full group appears. And this one consists of three caped caperers and a bobonga.]
Cor blimey!
[Ah. She pulls a displeased expression, then sighs. Yangus, you've infected her.]
Oh nevermind. Don't you even think of starting up a dance, you little beasts!
no subject
I mean, I cranked this thing up to its hardest level, you'd think it would be more challenging!
[He's smashed the golem a fair bit when he looks up to regard the newcomers.]
A dance? What are you talking about??
no subject
What do you mean it's hardest level?
[She barely knows how games like this work, Darin. What did you do?!
And now one of the caped caperers starts up a little dance. It's meant to really knock the viewer off their feet, quite literally in fact. And it works beautifully to knock Jessica back and down onto her rear with an 'oof!' from the woman herself.
She fumes, voice raised.]
That! Just like that!
[Another caperer does a jig, though this one is a little different. It's their version of the Hustle Dance. Whatever Darin's managed to do to that golem seems to not matter quite so much anymore. It rumbles in annoyance, gaining it's feet again as well.]
no subject
[He snorts when Jessica gets knocked onto her rear. He's about to say something when that golem starts getting up, tossing Darin to the ground. He bounces on his head and lands in a heap next to Jessica with a grunt.]
Okay...so that kind of dance...
Got any other tips?
no subject
Start killing them quicker.
[She blows out a breath as she staggers up to her feet, teeth set and somewhat bared. Jessica really is such a lovely lady when she's mad. Maybe psyching herself up isn't as important here but oh if she could, her tension would already be through the roof.]
I'll deal with you later over this level stunt. If you want any sort of forgiveness from me in this life or your next, you better start working for it!
[This is all said as she starts charging up.]
HERE I GO!
[INCOMING MAGIC BURST. Are you still laying there, Darin? You may want to not be pretty soon.]
no subject
You got it, Jess!
[He pushes himself to his feet and draws his dao again, settling into a stance. Let's see...there were still those stone golems...but those caperers were bad news bears. He didn't exactly know what Jessica had planned, but hey...maybe if they focused their attacks on the same group, it would be more effective!]
[He leaps to the side and flanks the caperers, then rushes in with a flurry of dazzling and powerful slashes. He moves so fast that only the glint of light off of the blade can be seen, and he follows the flurry up with some very powerful kicks.]
no subject
With Darin's help it's certainly enough to take down most of them. They're left with a sole little devil, fairly badly hurt, and the bobonga who bangs away on his drums. And by now Jessica had hit the ground with a heavy sigh.]
There, this is much more manageable.
[No rest just yet though. She draws out her whip to give her magic time to recover, lashing out at the group. The quicker they have that one last caperer down, the quicker they can take the others down as well.]
no subject
Why didn't you just lead off with that?!
[Darin takes down that last caperer with a strong slash...]
[And the reprieve lasts only a moment before four bomboulders appear. And those golems are still up and about too!]
Man, now they're literally just throwing rocks at us!
[Always one to act first and think later, Darin runs in to kick one of the Bomboulders right at one of the golems.]
no subject
Because that little trick uses up a good bit of energy, believe it or not.
no subject
[He runs up to her with the slight reprieve between monster waves. He's certainly looking banged up and his clothes aren't looking any better. Tears and burns and rips run the entire length of his frame but...for the most part he's not only whole, but decent!]
I guess I'll have to stick close then until you get some juice back...
[With that said, a shadow seems to fall on the arena. When Darin looks, he'll see that they're being flanked by two, towering living statues. To which he responds with a swear.]
Okay...what else you got...? Anything with more of a bang??
