1.

Eiji's been having fainting spells lately, ever since the implants first started shorting out. He knows this, and he's promised to stay away from heights until they resolve themselves.

But the problem is, the safest way he can get to work is by crossing the sky bridges.

As soon as he notices the vertigo start, he starts reaching out, trying to find a wall to grab onto. But it's happening too fast, and he drops before he can completely catch himself--he's slumped over the edge of the wall, losing consciousness, and he definitely needs help.

2.

If you're in the gardens at any point, you might see Eiji frantically stomping out small fires around him.

Unfortunately, that only seems to promote it. Seems like someone isn't used to his element flaring up like this.

"Stop, stop! Just stop, please!"

As the grass and flowers start burning more, he looks desperately for anyone to help.

"Water, please? Someone? I promise, I'm not trying to do this, I just want to put it out!"

3. Closed to Ankh

He's used to nightmares, as much as he hates to admit it. Most of the time, he can deal with them, even if he wakes up in the middle of the night.

A dream so good that he wakes up crying? That's new, and he buries his face into a pillow, hoping he doesn't wake up Ankh and have to explain himself.

How exactly would he explain it?

Two stupid people love you now, Ankh. Isn't that awful?

"You didn't scare me off, so I don't think she will."

Yeah, awful. Absolutely. That's why he's smiling.

"She'll learn how stubborn you are soon enough."

"Hopefully soon."

Eiji's grinning too, and he starts leaning foward to kiss Ankh.

And Ankh will gladly accept that. But suddenly, Gavina is paying attention again and just before their lips meet, there is a very loud squawk from across the room.

And Eiji jumps, glancing across at Gavina. She's doing this on purpose.

She is definitely doing this on purpose, and Ankh glares over at her. "Shut up and eat your food."

And then turns back to Eiji to pick that back up where they left off. Hopefully the bird stays out of it this time.

That was much better.

"I can definitely get used to that."

There's a small sound of agreement before he kisses him again, more deeply now that he's a little more confident Gavina is going to leave them alone. He pulls Eiji close as he does. With everything that's been bothering him the past couple days, he might just really need this.

Of course, Eiji's picked up on Ankh's stress, and he's happy to be able to help. And helping like this is nice, on top of that.

So he'll give Ankh what he wants and needs right now and lean more into Ankh.

Good, because Ankh doesn't plan on letting go of him for a while. Touch is easier comfort than words, especially when it's proof that what he wants is right here. Not everything, but enough. It takes a minute, but eventually he's able to relax against Eiji.

Okay, good. The tension's more or less bled out of Ankh, and Eiji's also relaxing more.

"Are you okay now?"

He's not going to try to make him talk, not when he's got a few good guesses what might be bothering him, but maybe this is enough.

It's a frustrating question, if only because answering means admitting he wasn't okay in the first place. But, well, he wasn't, and it's probably painfully obvious, especially when there's a very good chance Eiji overheard him talking to Gavina when he first came in.

"Yeah, I'm fine." It's sort of grumbled, but he means it. "Everyone needs to stop having those stupid dreams." It's as much explanation as he's going to volunteer, but there are some ways in which Eiji is not stupid. He'll piece it together.

Eiji nods; it's something he agrees with, even if for slightly different reasons.

"I guess flying is out for a while. You just want to stay in, then?"

"Yeah." Not that being there is perfect. There are other people in the apartment building; presences he's aware of through the walls, who are subject to the same thing that everyone has been. It's just not as overwhelming as a crowd. Flying isn't completely out--there probably isn't anywhere here that's farther from people that up in the air--but staying in seems the better option for the moment. For one, he'd rather have Eiji conscious.

The sound of flapping wings catches his attention and he looks over to where Gavina has moved to the counter to pick at the meat he left there. At least she finally stopped being stubborn about that.

Eiji looks over too, and he smiles.

"Ankh, she..."

Even though he's whispering, he decides to stop, just in case Gavina hears him and changes her mind.

It seems stupid, but given how Gavina's been reacting to things, it's probably good that Eiji stopped talking.

"I knew she'd decide she was hungry eventually."

He nods.

"Good. At least we can count on that, right?"

He doesn't want her to starve just because he's the one buying her food, after all.

"Yeah. She's not dumb enough to actually starve herself."

It's possible Gavina picked up that she was being mildly insulted, because she turned to give Ankh a look when he said that. But she went back to eating shortly after.

"Good. I was kind of scared, for a minute there."

Scared that a bird might have self-care skills as bad as yours?

Ankh catches that implication. For now, though, his only reply to it is a raised eyebrow.

After a minute, he goes to sit down, taking over a corner of Eiji's bed. It's the easiest if Eiji wants to sit with him.

Okay, so that's a little embarrassing. Yes, the bird does indeed have better self-care habits than he does.

He's just going to sit down next to Ankh and try not to say anything else stupid for the next minute, okay?

A brief moment passes in silence, and then Ankh reaches up to brush a stray piece of hair out of Eiji's face, and then fix a tangle that slightly snags his finger.

"Thanks."

Well, one non-stupid word down. Now to test his luck.

"Is that...well, is it relaxing for you? I mean, I don't mind it, it's kind of nice, but if it helps take the stress off a bit..."

Or he can try to pre-emptively apologize for offering help.

"Eiji... shut up."

That said, the fact that he's still messing with his hair is a yes.

And the minute's not even up. Congrats, Eiji, you can't even manage that much.

So he gives Ankh a sheepish smile, even as he moves a little closer.
