Welcome to the CERES! You are now under arrest!

Did you think the glitches were over? Boy, were you wrong! Through the last remnants of the digital kerfluffle, the latest batch of recovered code has manifested in CERES' computer systems as the guilty parties. Yes, that's right, all incoming arrivals are now placed on the wanted list, accused of having committed the heinous crime of creating and releasing the gorg0n virus all over Cerealia. These vicious twelve have been working together all along and conspiring against CERES, and it's now up to everyone to figure out if the new arrivals are truly guilty or if they are as innocent and confused as they claim.

In the meantime, CERES has dispatched assassination droids to stop the accused and bring them to justice via disembowelment. So while CERES rushes to stop the droids from committing murder, characters are perfectly welcome to a.) soil themselves b.) fight off the droids c.) run while soiling themselves or d.) cry a lot. e.) ask for assistance!

"ASSASSINATION MODE: ONLINE
OBJECTIVE: ELIMINATE THE ACCUSED
TIMEFRAME: 24:00 HOURS

JUDICIAL UNIT-00345 DISPATCHED"

//SCENARIOS.EXE
PHASE I
[ 00:01 ] It's a minute passed midnight, and the newest sets of recovered code are being spat out of ViViD and into Cerealia. Before the joyful reunions begin, an announcement starts blaring through everyone's computer screen, TV sets, devices, billboard screens, and so on. The image flashes with twelve names and twelve pictures along with a list of crimes each person has committed. They continue to flash again and again throughout the colony, alerting everyone of these heinous criminals. It's up to anyone if they want to engage them or stay far, far away from these perverts and miscreants.

As the arrivals begin to explore, they will see themselves plastered on just about every screen imaginable.
PHASE II
[ 2:00 ] It's still dark outside, hardly anyone out and about. It's the perfect time for an assassination attempt because that's when the information is received and processed by Cerealia's judicial system, but this isn't a job for any ordinary donut-eating cop. No, this is far greater than that. They bring out the big guns.

Twelve assassination droids, clad in armor and carrying katana, are immediately dispatched and sent to take out each of the accused at any cost. Characters are welcome to do any of the above choices while veterans to Cerealia can assist the arrivals, assist the droids, or just sit back and watch others suffer. It's completely up to you. They can also run into the droids on their search and try to interact with them.
PHASE III
[ 7:00 ] Your friendly CEO has finally gotten his ass out of bed, but by then, who knows how many people are left alive? After hearing of the kerfluffle, he decides to issue a cease and desist on the assassination droids, and instead, has his investigation units step in to confirm that the new arrivals are not guilty of any of the crimes and charges listed under their name. They will be pulled aside for painful, painful questioning before being released to explore as they wish.

To make up for all the damages and trauma incurred from the near-death attempts, Julius will also be giving the new arrivals a settlement of 20,000 credits each, so go out and party.
PHASE IV
[ 12:00 ] By noon, the incident has been cleared up with little to no blood spilled (hopefully). New arrivals are welcome to explore and enjoy their new living arrangements or possibly lie in bed and just cry some more. Either way, welcome to the magic that is Cerealia. The CEO will announce that the last of the virus has been officially cleaned up and taken care of, and he'll be issuing a video with a public apology for all.

BONUS
[ why:o'clock ] Among the police droids dispatched, there will be a rehabilitative droid in a dinosaur suit, looking to cure the criminals of their improper behavior and their moral indiscretions through the power of LOVE and HUGS. It was developed after the researchers in CERES did extensive research on other worlds and found that this mystical creature was capable of creating worldwide joy and cheer. It will be chasing those who are on the Wanted List exclusively, but it will not stop at just them. Your character will be accosted and hugged whether they like it or not.
[ Remember to apply proper warnings on threads with trigger-y or inappropriate material and do let a mod know if your thread careens off into maiming or canoodling so we can lock the log. ]

//RUN.EXE
Welcome to CEREALIA's latest intro post. For your convenience, we have compiled a post detailing everyone's arrival experience and a FAQ that should explain everything in more detail. Please read them thoroughly before playing. Thank you!

[The question has Naoi glancing over toward the robot, who does still look like it's in the throes of CPU seizing. GOOD... HE DOESN'T WANT TO WASTE BULLETS. He doesn't even know where he'd get bullets here. This isn't very futuristic if they haven't come up with a way to magic things into existence from dirt, gosh.]

It's fine. [Said with a little haughty sniff, but it seems the sentiment isn't directed at Rin himself so much as at the situation in general. A person can only deal with massive corporate flops so many times in two months...]

We'd better not take a risk. Follow me. [AND AWAY... It seems he knows his way through the side alleys pretty well because he's the shadiest kid ever, immediately setting off and gesturing for Rin to follow. He'll keep a somewhat slow pace though, considering the poor lobster-flashing criminal seems pretty winded and tired.

The second question will get an answer once they're both on the way. He speaks from over his shoulder, holding one handgun up and tipping it to the side a little.]

It came with me, of course! [Of course.] But I don't know where you'd get any here if you want your own set.

... I have no real choice, do I?

[ In the grand scheme of suspicious people that Rin would willingly follow, this guy ranks pretty low, but he's well aware he's in a place he doesn't recognize, surrounded by strangers, so there aren't any other options. What he says about his guns isn't exactly all that comforting, either. Teenagers don't exactly walk around with weapons where he's from, but if it'll keep them from being chased by any more murderous robots, he's willing to stake his life on this guy.

He nods after a short period of uncertainty, starting to walk as quickly as he can manage. ]

Let's go. I don't need my own set, either. I don't plan on sticking around here that long anyway. Soon as I figure how to get back to Japan, I'm getting out of here.

[ If he can help it, that is. His mind hasn't exactly settled on the fact that he's on another planet at the moment, one that might not even be in the same universe as planet earth. It's a large pill to swallow, and he's trying to push down whatever panic threatens to well up inside of him. ]

Do you know the way out of this place?

[Naoi, to his credit, actually doesn't immediately make fun of the poor guy for not fully grasping the situation. One, CERES doesn't exactly explain it well. Two, why would anyone trust a company that supposedly "saved" them when their welcoming committee is an execution squad? Three, someone can't really be expected to focus on stuff like that when their lives are in more immediate danger... It's a shame Rin couldn't attract the hugbot instead of the murderbots, gosh.

Moreover, it's not like this city is the first place he's been in which confused people sort of pop in and out like spring daisies, wondering where they are and how to get back home. It's why the explanation comes so easily; his attention is still largely dedicated to following the trail to the housing complex, but this is a topic that's second-nature.]

I know the way to the apartments, but if you're asking for a way back to Japan, you're out of luck for now. Whether or not you believe what those guys said in that meeting, there's no way to leave this place. We haven't found a gap in the perimeter at all yet.

[AND BOY has he been looking... Not because he wants to risk getting eaten by an alien in case they're telling the truth, but because he finds the whole set-up a little suspicious. If they're not going to provide information, it's up to the citizens to take it, as far as he's concerned.]

[ Those are the last words Rin wants to hear, and they already feel like daggers being shoved into his ears, unwilling to accept that this all is the end right here. He's supposed to live here alone until he can figure out a way to help them put everything back together. That's what they want, isn't it? To use all those recovered bits of code to reconstruct all those worlds that were supposedly destroyed. It makes Rin wonder how and why he survived out of everyone.

He still doesn't want to believe it. Call it stubbornness or hope, but he knows his friends and his family are still somewhere he can reach. He doesn't care what he has to do or how hard he has to look, unwilling to accept despair without trying for himself. ]

I'm not believing it until I've exhausted every possibility. Even then, I have to get back somehow. I'm not just going to stay here and grow old in this place and miss out on my future.

[ A job, an apartment, and all the credits CERES has to offer aren't going to make it all 'okay,' but he does want a place to sleep and settle down in after all that running. ]

I take it the explanation's the same for everyone. Did they send they send this messed up welcome committee after you, too? Why try and kill us after asking us for help?

[ Something's definitely 'off' about the whole situation, and it doesn't make him any more inclined to trust CERES or any of their intentions at the moment. ]

[That actually gets a grin from Naoi, since he's quite appreciative of people who look at a bad fate and refuse to succumb immediately.]

Good! Good, good! That's the kind of attitude that might take you places. [...They might not be good places, but hey! It's better than standing stagnant, probably.

At the question, Naoi shakes his head.]
Nope, that's all you guys. We had a barbeque for our welcome. The explanation was the same, but it seems like things have been getting harder and harder for each new group of arrivals. If their luck continues to go down the drain like this, the next group is going to end up dead right away. [Which is partially a joke and partially a legitimate concern...] Anyway, I think it's an accident, probably. They seem to be having a lot of them lately, though this is the first potentially fatal one I've seen.

[Unfortunate for these twelve... He'll eventually slow to a walking pace once it becomes obvious that the assassinbot won't be following, and he gestures out toward the edge of the city, where the high-rise apartment complex can easily be seen.]

That's where you'll be staying until you can find a better way to leave. There are some other houses around the area too, but they're pretty pricey.

[ Though the rest of this guy's explanation doesn't bode well at all for his stay here, however long or short it may be. How do they jump from a barbecue to an execution order? That doesn't make sense at all!! ]

...An accident?! All this for an accident?!

[ He resists the urge to grab this guy and shake him in frustration, realizing he's not the actual cause of the problem. He's a victim like him, so he shouldn't take out his anger even if he's quite perturbed he nearly lost a limb because of 'an accident'. ]

Does anyone even know what's causing it? Or are they hoping the problem's going to fix itself? I'll worry about the apartment later. I want to be assured more of those robots aren't going to show up at my door.

[ It's hard to settle or even want to sleep there when his life might be in danger again. It's enough to make Rin think he should just find a hiding place instead since they probably have his apartment number on file anyway. ]

[Rin will get a thumbs up for his can-do attitude later!! But for now, Naoi will be semi-useful and at least try to field the questions about competency that are bound to follow. The answers will largely boil down to "no, no they are not doing a good job here, I am very sorry".]

Yeah. I mean, the actual crime that's being pinned on you guys was pretty serious! I'm not sure if it's execution worthy even if you were actually responsible, though. [A little information leakage surely isn't worth someone getting skewered...]

Anyway, I'm pretty sure no one knows what the cause for the virus itself is. The CEO will probably try to get this sorted out soon enough, but the root of the problem remains untackled! [Said very matter-of-factly... He can't even try to give some half-assed reassurances by saying that they're going to work on it, since it seems like the only countermeasures that have been taken so far are just the equivalent of slapping a bandaid over a big cut.]

I don't think they'd actually track you down into the block, but you'd have less room to run if they did... It depends on where you think you'll be safer. —Oh! Or you could stay in my place for a little. If you use your card to open a door, they'll know where you are, but if you're just visiting someone else there shouldn't be any reason for you to flash the badge.

[ Seeing as he just met this guy, he doesn't know how trustworthy he is. Then again, he did kill that robot for him, which is a plus. Rin likes not being dead/maimed/executed/subjected to anything remotely painful especially if it's over something he didn't do at all. He should at least get a fair trial to prove his innocence and not just be immediately sentenced to death.

And for a virus of all things. That's not even that big of a crime in the grand scheme of things. What is this CEO thinking? ]

I've got no choice right now but to come with you it looks like. I don't want them to know where I'm staying, and if it'll make it harder for them to track me, I'll jump on it.

[ He just hopes he doesn't regret that decision and that this guy doesn't turn out to be a serial murderer or anything to that extent. The fact that he's casually carrying guns around still makes him feel exceptionally uneasy. ]

Hopefully, all this will get sorted out quickly and that CEO will figure out what he's doing.

[ He doubts it already, considering how close he came to death. CERES seems like a rather careless bunch at this point. ]

What's your name? If we're going to be crammed in one space, we should get that part out of the way. Mine's Matsuoka Rin.

[ Sounds like a girl's name, but he's obviously a boy -blah blah blah. He's not in the mood for the introductory bit. ]
unjustify: inkedfeathers (questionable)

[personal profile] unjustify 2014-10-27 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Naoi! Naoi Ayato. [He doesn't seem big on introductions either, at least, since that's the only response Rin gets and he doesn't even raise a brow at the name. Ayato isn't the most masculine name out there either even if it's not quite as ambiguous as Rin, he understands...]

Anyway, I don't live high up, so it's not that far from here. You can stay until you feel safe leaving. Considering how much of a hassle this is, they'll probably make some sort of announcement once they actually do something about it...

[This is said as more of a grumble than anything, trailed off into vaguely irate silence. BUT, hanging around might get more murderbots on their tail, so Naoi's quick to gesture forward and promptly sets off in the direction of the large, looming apartment block.]

I live with Jason and I'm sorry in advance if he says anything so offensively stupid that your ears start to bleed, but he's probably still asleep now anyway. That's a little bit of good luck, at least. [Tragically he is just as dumb as Jason but in an entirely different way... Serial murderers or Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, it's a tough call but Rin's sadly landed with the latter.]

[ Unfortunately, Rin's not aware enough of what he's walking into to question it and is instead mostly blindly following along because the other prospect means getting killed by a robot. He'd like to avoid that fate, so he's going to go with the guy who might have some idea of what's going on here (theoretically). ]

It's fine. I'm used to that sort of thing. My team's got enough of that type that it's nothing I can't handle by now. I'll even give you a hand with him if it comes down to it.

[ He's sure whoever this 'Jason' guy can't be any worse than what he has to put up with back home, so long as he's clean and doesn't collect bugs or want to date his sister. That's already three pluses if he has all that, but Rin won't stake his life on it at the moment.

Once the building is in view, he takes a moment to study it, still impressed by the level of technology in this place. Even Tokyo can't match all of this, though it can be overwhelming as much as it is breath-taking. ]

We've only been here for... three months by now, I think?

[There's an upward lilt to his voice at that, though, uncertainty clearly present. He's not exactly the best at keeping track of time... It hadn't been a necessity for him until he ended up in this weird place, more or less.]

It was already like this by the time I came in. I don't think there were any groups before us, either - if there were, I haven't talked to any of them. It seems like things just go as far back as that weird barbecue.

[He will be buttblasted about those alien burgers forever...

On a more reassuring note, he does seem to know his way around the place well. He'll motion Rin in through one of the side sets of doors after they get to it, traipsing down the hall with all the familiarity of... well, someone who's been living in the place for months.]

I thought it was pretty strange too, though. They say that they've been reduced to their most bare-bones infrastructure, but this all seems really advance... Bugs and glitches aside. Maybe that's what they meant? [While talking, he reaches into his pocket to withdraw his key card.]

Just three months? You've got to be kidding me. But this place was around longer, wasn't it?

[ This couldn't have all been built in three months. He wonders how long they've been working on it. It's impressive by a lot of standards even if the technology is supposedly on the fritz from what he's heard and experienced just now.

The mention of a barbecue does nag at his curiosity. Partly, because he hasn't eaten anything since he ended up here but also partly because it sounds like this guy was gravely affected by said barbecue. Does he want to know what was even being barbecued? Probably not. ]

There has to be some kind of historic account or records on this place. Isn't there a library? Or some online encyclopedia? These fancy devices can't just be for show.

[ Not that he's bothered turning his on yet. He had... other preoccupations at the time. ]

It was, yeah. I don't know how much longer and I don't really know if any information like that is available. They kind of keep what they know close to their chests, you know?

[Which is pretty sHITTY OF A CORPORATION that is supposedly trying to help them out!! Nice try, CERES! Naoi's a naturally paranoid person, so any reason to be more wary is a good reason to keep in mind, as far as he's concerned.]

If you're talking about those CereVice things, they're basically just smart phones. You won't really find anything useful there. [Which is a damn shame, since it'd be nice if they came with a helpful manual that actually explained what was going on.

Soon enough though, he stops in front of a door. One pass of the card that he had drawn from his pocket has it opening with a click, and he'll nudge it the rest of the way back with his foot.]

Here— It's not much, but you're welcome to make yourself at home while you're stuck.

[The interior is... lived-in, to say the least, but also relatively well organized. Naoi carried his tidying habits over, basically... It's pretty sparsely decorated but decently furnished. There's a big tv mounted on a wall and some throw blankets around the place. Some cups sit on the counter, making the opening area seem a little more welcoming.]

[ Rin's pretty relieved by the sight of the interior, having expected something a lot worse given what he knows of the general state of teenage boys' rooms. Then again, this guy hasn't exactly struck him as anything remotely resembling a normal teenage boy, yet. He doesn't know anyone back home who carries a gun around and who'd just casually take out a homicidal robot without blinking.

He has a feeling he's just walked into a place more terrifying than he can imagine, but he's trying to keep his cool for now. He's not locked up or tied up at the moment, which means he can at least explore and investigate on finding a way out of here and getting back home. That's a plus, at least. Some semblance of freedom and a roof over his head... it's a lot better than typical hostage situations.

He's sure he can figure something out given time, and he's not alone even if he's not a 100% sure he should even trust this guy. Well, it's too late to turn back now that he's here inside his apartment. ]

...Thanks again. For all this. Don't think I got your name before, but I already owe you double. Don't sweat it, though. I'll make it up to you.

Iwatobi? Haven't heard of it, but I was from Japan, too. ["Was"... He's not really sure where the afterlife is, but he knows that it isn't Japan.]

I think there are a lot of us here, actually... But there are some people from Europe and the U.S. and things like that. People from the future, people from the past... He had been wondering about the languages himself, too, since he's also not sure how it's impossible for them to pick up anything just like that. He wonders if they messed with their heads when they were "recovered" and strapped into those machines.

Something is definitely not right with this place. In fact, a whole lot of things don't even make partial sense, but at least this guy seems relatively normal by comparison. ]

Nice to meet you even if it's not my ideal meeting spot.

[ Even those those words are more of a generic greeting than a sincere one, he does feel a bit grateful having run into him, all violence aside. ]

You're one of the few I found here I can talk to more easily, but don't let that get to your head. I'm still a little suspicious about you.

[Also on the plus side: Naoi doesn't seem to be keen on giving any reason for Rin to actually need his guard up. He'll gesture toward a pair of chairs in the seating area, though, and take one for himself. This is the most lived-in place of the house - probably because the TV is there along with a gaming system and a bunch of scattered game cases.]

[ Rin's quick to take it all in as he sits across from Naoi, trying to absorb as much as he can so he knows what he's dealing with here. He knows he doesn't have all the time in the world to adapt, not if they're issuing death threats this early. That in itself is worrisome, but he doesn't want to be overtaken by fear. He has to focus, figure out what the hell is going on, and see if there is any way to track down the people he knows from his world, assuming they were 'recovered' as well.

He hadn't seen them anywhere during the earlier escapade nor has his phone been going off, but he doesn't have any service here anyway. It's unlikely he'll be able to call them any time soon, so he has to look for alternatives. Those people are his main priority at the moment. ]

I don't need any of that right now. I just want to know how I can find people if I have to. There has to be some kind of listing or maybe on that device they gave us... Can I use that?

[ There has to be at least an internet connection in this place with all the technology they have, so maybe he can just send them e-mails. It's better than nothing. ]

Would it reach all the way to Japan from here? What planet is this place even on?

Okay, okay. I got it. It's not that hard. We got stuff like this where I'm from.

That said, with the way he's talking, it's clear he's taken the whole "your planet has been destroyed" thing with a grain of salt. For good reason, too, considering an entire afterlife seems like it'd be harder to destroy, and it's not like CERES has been trustworthy.]

[ His face crinkles slightly in confusion, wondering how he can take that sort of news so easily. Most people would be bothered to learn that their planet was destroyed by some unseen force and to have absolutely no memory of the invasion at all. But this guy is obviously not most guys as he's quickly learning. ]

How does that make sense? That's not something that just happens everyday unless there's something you're not telling me.

[ Something big from the sounds of it. Rin wonders if he really wants to know, but if he's going to be sharing a space with this guy, it's better he learn sooner than later.

His finger pokes him hard in the chest, obviously pushing him into talking more. ]

What is it?

I'm a god, of course! [Of course.] So if it's something like picking people to drag in here, I would be a first choice.

[Which is the crazy nutbar part of the explanation, but Naoi will also add something a little more useful after that.]

This isn't the first time something like this has happened to me, either. The arrival was different last time, but it's the same sort of thing. A containment area filled with different people from different worlds... What those people said at first turned out to be as far from the truth as possible.

[So, as his logic follows, CERES probably can't be trusted either.]

[ ...what. Rin stares at him, wide-eyed and incredulous, unsure if he can quite believe that. Gods should be more impressive, shouldn't they? This guy doesn't look that much different than himself. ]

-a god?! You can't be serious! You look like you a high school student like me!!

[ The poking turns into a sudden grab of Naoi's lapels, yanking him forward while Rin tries to look for any signs of divinity. Honestly, this guy looks so incredibly normal that it's just too hard to swallow. ]

I don't see it. There's no way you're a god! Why would someone with omnipotent powers like that even let themselves get kidnapped twice??

[ Surely, he could have just waved his hand a little and stopped it? What's the point of being a god if you don't get all the powers and perks with it? ]
